Every time I tried to transit I was told airside transfers was shut. So I didn't bother booking via MAN

As a Liverpool area poster, on what occasions do you need to consider changing flights at MAN as a midpoint of your journey? Just curious ...

I'm sorry if this has been spoken about before, and it probably has, but I just can't get my head around the potential figures being projected. From my understanding, T2 is forecasted to handle 25mppa at capacity, which would equate to 80% of the airports total capacity. So if you work out the capacity based on T2 figures then the total will be 31m and that leaves 6m to make up the extra 20%.

However, if that was correct, then as soon as T2 is fully operational, it will be at capacity. But if you take into account the T2 can handle 6,000 bags per hour you get a total of 37m based on running 17 hours per day 365 days of the year. Which could bring it roughly in line with 35m leaving T3 to handle 10m.

Now to me that seems logical but the figures that have been presented by MAN are different, which is why I'm getting so confused. Can anyone else shed any light on this because the math ain't mathing.

I suspect it comes down to the way the 'capacity' is worked out. Ultimately, it's probably better looking at peak demand, say, per hour, than passengers across the year.

If MAN added a million passengers per year this year and all of those were on flights that departed and arrived in the middle of the afternoon then i'd say that those passengers don't require additional infrastructure because they will impacting the infrastructure at a quiet time.

If MAN added a million passengers that were all in the summer peak and all in the morning, when the airport is at its busiest, then more infrastructure may be needed to accommodate them.

Hope that makes sense!

So does that mean the building out of domestic arrivals will happen in T2? Or will they resort to bussing for all domestic arrivals?

Good to see progress on this. Still makes me wonder if it’s rather short sighted not to see the other two previously planned piers constructed. With the closing/mothballing of T1 and only Ryanair using T3 and some area of T1, surely there won’t be enough gate or parking space with the current layout especially if Pier C remains in place? Surely the demolition of this, plus the addition of the two further piers at T2, means the airport wouldn’t necessarily have to consider doing anything in terms of a new terminal on the space occupied by the current T1. Just a thought!

Will that building be incorporated into the Terminal its self?
I’d doubt it. It’s located on the first gate for pier 2 (the airbridge would come out directly above its roof)

Certainly food for thought. T2X was originally a replacement for T1, not expansion (as per the original planning application) - with the airport getting busier and the rethink of the piers it makes you wonder.

Having been in Krakow for the last few days and noticed upon arrival at the airport, the large grey wall panels in immaculate condition on the way to passport control, with nice shiny grey floor tiles. Not sure when these were installed but can’t help think how much better the arrival corridor’s would be like this!

Current state of play with pier 2 via an awfully digitally zoomed phone photo. Random pier section on the left, a single random gate bridge on the right:

Probably the best place for me to put this.

Manchester's Private Terminal, over by the Visitors park, will reopen on 4th November under the new name of "aether".

Strange name, but I really do hope that it will be a success

Looking like T3 will end up using T1 security and entering 3 via the southern front.

Using T1 check in also. Easy jet part.

Thanks for the info and welcome to the forum!

Although (if true), this would surprise me as MAG had already announced they would be closing the original structure of T1 (which includes the check in and security areas) and they would using another area of T1 to relocate the T3 security area.
Not sure if the easyJet area of T1 check in would be big enough for Ryanair…

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
