I really don’t know what to expect this summer or this year.Just happy with jet2 Ryanair and easyJet .Obviously we want to offer more destinations by new airlines but I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♂️

For Africa links, getting Egyptair would be the next best bet as they can cover North, East and West Africa. Southern Africa would still be the preserve of Emirates and Qatar

The money is apparently on Dublin for Ethiopian.

I really doubt EDI has the catchment to support it and inbound tourism would be negligible. Major expatriate groups who use these services, such as Nigerians, are in England. I would have thought BHX would do better than EDI.

Maybe the same could be said for Jeddah, but Saudia's route from BHX is doing very well. Build it and they will come. I'm sure there was negligible pax to Addis Ababa from man before they started the route. Now look!
Moreover I flew from LHR to AUH on one of Etihad's first flights, when they only had one aircraft....it was near empty.

when it comes to long haul,, I would say that Pakistani and Indian routes are the ones that seem to be able to launch with relatively short lead tine. Otherwise it's normally 6 to 9 months that people have to wait to fly the routes

‘IF’ the one airline is what I think it is then I’d imagine a December start would be a reasonable assumption. That would mean an announcement in the spring but you’ll forgive me if I don’t hold my breath. We’ll probably still be having the same endless discussion this time next year.

Yes. But aircraft are a valuable commodity. Airlines do not start routes unless they believe that a market exists. They will use their aircraft where they believe they will make the most money. Competent airlines will investigate this in huge depth and will not simply open routes in the hope that punters will eventually turn up.

Yes I agree that is generally true but certain airlines notably from the Middle East are really arms of the state who have other objectives and the airlines are used as part of them including huge infrastructure projects and other political objectives.

You could include PIA in this but they lack the money and have a track record of incompetence or worse.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
