One good bit of news is that Alicante and Dublin can officially be considered as routes that have recovered their pre pandemic numbers. Unfortunately plenty of others haven't with the most obvious being Edinburgh 1518 compared to 9671 in April 2019. Unfortunately without a Ryanair type airline on the route i don't see how it ever will recover those numbers.

April 2025 data from the CAA:

Edinburgh route still very disappointing, but Belfast City up 14%, must surely be a candidate for twice daily a few days a week.

I think the challenge there would be aircraft at Emerald Airlines.

,Easyjet seem to be moving in at speed at Belfast City, on several of the routes operated by Emerald, who may find the competition very difficult to maintain, and could well look to some of the routes where they have no competition.

The CAA stats are out. Lots of routes look to be up a few percentage on May last year.

Here’s some big winners:
Amsterdam: 8%
Enfidha: 10%
Dublin: 172% (10,866 extra flights for Rugby)
Las Palmas: 32%

I’ve ignored some of the big risers where it’s likely down to an extra flight that month due to how the weeks fall e.g Ibiza up 101% - still good though.

Overall the airport saw 17% more passengers on May last year.

CAA Stats for May 2025
98,763 passengers used the airport in May up 17% on 2024 (Rugby finals gave the airport a good boost)
Top 5 routes
1. Malaga 11,759 +8%
2. Alicante 11,652
3. Dublin 10,866 +172%
4. Amsterdam 8577 +8%
5. Tenerife 6511 +9%

Belfast City 3596
Edinburgh 1528 -3%

Bordeaux 3094
Lyon 694

So far in 2025 283,697 passengers have used Cardiff Airport.
Rolling year saw 891,000 passengers.

Nice to see, that only four destinations saw a drop in passenger numbers, two of which were domestic routes, but only by small percentages. If future months rise by 16%, it will be a very good year for CWL.

These are good stats. Good to see the airport growing again.
Just need the politicians across the political spectrum to back the airport. It’s a major employer in the Vale with very high skilled jobs, particularly at the BA Maintenance site. Close the airport and all those jobs disappear.
CWL can do better and will do with the right support.

Tbf i expect Labour would say that they are.

According to the airports Facebook page July 2025 saw 10% growth over July 2024. Roughly an extra 11,000 passengers for the month by my reckoning.
I suspect August will be similar. It’s good to see consistent growth every month.

CAA Stats for June 2025
116,385 used Cardiff Airport in June +4% on 2024
Top 5 routes
1. Malaga 13,935 +26%
2. Alicante 11664 -5%
3. Amsterdam 8276
4. Dublin 8215 +66%
5. Mallorca 7896 -2%
Belfast City 3706 -2%
Edinburgh 1327 +15%
Rolling year is 896,000 passengers and in 2025 a total of 402,082 passengers have used Cardiff

Dublin figures are great, even Edinburgh at plus 15%, surprised at Belfast little loss, CWL is crying out for expansion of Edinburgh service, also rumour on social media of Eastern wanting to restart Paris service, I don't know where it originated.

Yep Dublin is doing well. Edinburgh would be better if it wasn't 4 weekly.
I heard about that Eastern rumour i suspect it's just someone messing about.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
