Thanks Scottie, I notice the Date for the month is shown as December 2024, and terminal and domestic travellers are shown as 12 for both. Is it a typing error or a mistake by the CAA? Whatever the reason, the work you put in to compile the figures is really appreciated.

Yes you are correct Sam, the CAA figures show a 4% increase, that's a relief nice to see the figures heading in the right direction, and the cargo figures also.

Thank you to those who have pointed out the error of my ways!! I can only blame it on a combination of 'old(er) age' and my having rushed to try to get the data for all of the airports that I monitor out before I settled down for the evening!!
I have now posted the data for October in post # 1043.

Between January and October 2024 793,977 passengers used Cardiff Airport.
For the Summer season April-October 658,992 passengers used the airport with June, July and August all seeing over 100,000 passengers a month.
I very much suspect the airport will fall short of being able to achieve over 900,000 passengers for 2024.

I think if you base it on last years numbers for Nov and Dec it’ll be around 870/880k.
Given the majority of routes are flying at near capacity (in summer) more routes/ flights are needed to boost those figures. The easiest most secure wins would be more summer seasonal routes.

Nice to see Dublin up 11%, and the domestic routes to Edinburgh, and Belfast also slightly better, but there's a long way to go to get anywhere near pre pandemic figures .

There’s been less routes this year, but an overall increase in passengers which is a good sign. Still a very long way to go. The airport now needs a major boost from a new based aircraft operation to really push forward.

The airports X account has posted that they handled 881k passengers in 2024. A 5% increase on 2023, but still shy of the 1m mark.

I anticipate another increase in 2025, but given the good load factors last year, I still think the 1 million mark will be missed (probably by a few thousand).

Onwards and upwards. 🛫

It's good to see an increase but agree it's not likely to see 1 million in 2025 but fingers crossed 2026 will be the year.

Yes I think the 1 million mark will reached in 2026, with the extra second based plane in the winter, it's a pity that it doesn't start until latter part of December 2025. You never know, we might get some good news later this year.

CWL needs the domestic routes back to levels that FlyBe were running to get numbers over the line.
The EDI route is a shadow of its former self, GLA,NCL and Jersey are non-existent. No CDG either on the international side.
The problem these days there are fewer carriers.

I generally don't see that happening. At the moment it seems a struggle to get Edinburgh to daily flights. Newcastle i don't see ever returning and i can't see Glasgow or Jersey returning any time soon and sadly even Paris.

It is a pity that CWL's domestic routes are still down by nearly one fifth, the airport could really do with extra Edinburgh flights, and a re-start of
Glasgow services. Cork and Paris should also be priority aims. Thanks Scottie for the figures.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
