And if you want to treat yourself and stay in a lovely hotel, i recommend the Hotel Du Vin right in the heart of the city centre close to Birmingham Cathedral and the CBD.

I stayed in the Hotel Du Vin a few years ago, it's a fabulous place.

We had a room that stepped down to a huge roll top bath and a walk in shower that was as big as my bathroom at home.

The breakfast was also amazing, although the portion size was huge.

And they do fantastic cocktails Ray :)

The amount of construction happening in Central Birmingham is quite astonishing. I was in town last weekend for the Caribbean Festival, amongst other things, it was great seeing work progressing on the HSBC HQ and the new hotel behind it.

What a difference the demolition of the old library has made. The whole area has been opened up and it's great to finally see BMAG in all it's glory.

I had a wander down to The Woodman on Saturday afternoon and sat outside with a drink. Beyond the new park there is currently just a swathe of wasteland but I imagined what it will be like in the future, with trams running along the street to a huge new railway station for the high speed line. It's going to be spectacular (y)

I wonder if there are any technical minded folk on here that may be able to offer some advice?

Every so often I get a spontaneous download that starts without any prompting whatsoever, that I know of anyway. It seems to happen when I go to a website, including this one, then when I delete the download the same happens again from a different website. The download is 'Your_mortgage_payments.rar.archive' or some such, there is nothing in the file once it's there. I've done spyware scans, malware scans, anti virus scans and used the Microsoft malicious software removal tool, it stopped for a while but has now restarted.

Any ideas?

Many thanks for that.

I'm also a long term Malwarebytes user but despite having run the scans several times everything comes back clear.

Funnily enough everything seems fine today so finger crossed Google are on top of it.

Thanks again (y)

Interesting stuff. The point about ad blocker... so far as F4A is concerned ads pay for this site with a little extra help from participating members and from my own pocket. If everyone here started using an add blocking tool F4A would be gone by Christmas! If anybody ever gets any ads they think are unacceptable you can report them to me and I'll try and block them. Well, apart from the Russian girls. ;)

For anyone with an interest in objects in the sky that goes beyond aircraft, then tonight might well be worth looking upwards.
The Perseid meteor shower is due and predicted to be particularly active with up to 200 meteors per hour.
Best views are likely after midnight and into the early hours, but should be visible any time after dark (assuming clear skies).

Dunno if anybody knows this but budget hotel chain Easyhotel is to open a new hotel in Birmingham City Centre. It will be located on John Bright street.

Ru ready to be tango'd (y)

Wow, sunglasses optional?

Whilst on the subject of hotels has anybody been to the new Park Regis Hotel at Five Ways? I've just been reading an article on it and I must say that it looks rather nice. The rooftop restaurant on the 16th floor is definitely on my to do list.

At the moment I'm on the Gower Peninsula in Wales and there's no shortage of aircraft out here. Most come from Swansea Airport which is right next to the Swansea road in the middle of a moor but is so small that you can miss it if you're looking the wrong way.

The RAF are out training in Hawks and occasionally Tornadoes on most fine mornings. There are plenty of low-flying coastguard choppers around, and an autogyro flew over once.

Near Monmouth I saw a plane towing a glider into the air—something I've only seen once before.

At Port Eynon bay someone was flying a quadcopter drone in the sand dunes. When it was flying with the wind behind it it reached some incredible speeds. Perhaps the most fascinating to watch, though, are the hang-gliders and paragliders who take off from the Rhossili Downs.

You must be having a great time jfy. Wales has some wonderful beaches, especially in the west of the country.

Some years ago our daughter got me up in a glider. It was at the Bristol & Gloucestershire Gliding Club at Nympsfield on the edge of the Cotswolds overlooking the Severn Vale. I remember the glider was a Schleicher and we were towed into the air by a powered aircraft.

We must have been up for 45 minutes riding the thermals with several other gliders. The pilot was sitting in the seat behind me and his most pressing instruction was to keep a constant lookout for other gliders. He did let me have a go for a few minutes but I suspect he was watching intently ready to take control in an instant. The landing was interesting because a glider comes in at quite a steep angle to maintain airspeed. Sitting right in the front made me think what it must have been like for a Stuka pilot.

A few years later our daughter got me up in a Tiger Moth in Australia. I felt like Biggles.

Enjoy the rest of your visit.

This is now on my 'to do' list :)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
