New once weekly flight to Bucharest has been announced. Strange to have a once weekly route but very good news nonetheless. Surprised wizz haven't already launched this route

Not for summer 2016. Starting Oct or Nov 2016 i believe

Begins 9 November and operates on Wednesdays according to FR booking engine. Timings suggest a BRS-based aircraft.

I doubt there is going to be much holiday traffic on this route. It will serve the Romanian diaspora but not much else. Whilst Bucharest was once known as the Paris of the east, a weekly rotation will kill any attempts to make a holiday out of it.

Apart from Gran Canaria at certain times of the year I'm struggling to recall any other Ryanair route at Bristol that's only operated once weekly.

I suspect that it can't be the finished article. I can't imagine many wanting to visit Bucharest for a week. I note from the Brs press release that over 50000 people from the catchment area travel from elsewhere to Bucharest so I think this route will show some real potential as has already been shown with Sofia

Bucharest is at best a 2 night holiday. Other parts of Romania are Possible but only an intrepid traveller will try their luck with that. More than 2 nights in Bucharest and you will tear your hair out. This route is for Romanians visiting home only. Not for stag/hen parties.

Summer 2017

I note that Ryanair has announced next summer's programme from some UK airports and they all seem to incorporate increases. BRS is invariably one of the last UK airports to have its programme for a season announced. Next winter is a case in point although when the programme was announced it showed an increase of over 20%.

It remains to be seen whether Ryanair will announce increases across all its airports for summer 2017, despite its recent announcement that Brexit would mean they would be concentrating on continental Europe rather than on the UK.

easyJet restarted its own VCE-BRS in March after several years' absence from the route.

If those airports are BHX LBA and NCL it may be that they are fighting back against Jet2?

That's always a possibility. Good news for those airports nonetheless.

Ryanair launched its summer 2017 flights from/to Italy this morning. Milan and Bologna remains the same as this year but Venice (Marco Polo) increases next year to 4 x weekly

No doubt Ryanair's VCE increase is a continued response to easyJet returning to the route this summer.

Although Ryanair will axe routes with monthly load factors well into 90% - there are a number of examples at BRS in the past few years - the July airport figures of 822,000+ which are a record for any month (very little reaction to this anywhere by the way and no press publicity from the airport) and the likely even more in August suggests that loads across the board are very high. So it's particularly frustrating that the CAA is so shockingly inefficient with its airport monthly stats as the FR loads cannot be established.

One would hope that Ryanair will want a slice of the impressive increasing passenger numbers of 2015 and 2016 (likely to be well over a million increase over the two years) that the BRS CEO has already intimated will continue in 2017. If so, it would be very useful to know Ryanair's full intentions for next summer at the airport.

Do you think they could pull out the based planes and just fly in from other airports instead?

They could but I'd be very surprised if they did, unless they had another spat with the BRS management over certain charges which led them to reduce the base size, but not the number of flights, a few years ago. It would even out the BRS peaks and troughs but I doubt that Ryanair are particularly bothered about that. Ryanair already operate a number of BRS rotations with aircraft from other bases as well as making full use of the five BRS-based aircraft. Given that in August there are over 130 weekly rotations they don't have any choice.

Ryanair seem to be making some sort of Brexit point that they will concentrate on non-UK airports for further growth but in true Ryanair-speak that might really mean base expansion, in which case any additional flights or destinations at BRS next summer might be from other bases.

"Almost two-thirds of UK adults are positive about a post-Brexit Britain, a poll suggests."

Much of the UK are carrying on as if we have Brexited but we haven't and we won't until the end of the two years following the triggering of article 50.

Even the BBC are reporting stories as if we are post-Brexit when the correct term should really be pre-Brexit.

In anycase the likes of Ryanair and other airlines can carry on as normal for now as there has been no impact (yet). We are fairly used to the likes of O'Leary saying he will close bases and so on, but on the majority of occasions he does little more than tweak his flying programme.

Fingers crossed for a decent outcome whatever happens.

Summer 2017 being released. Nothing significant , no real changes with slight decreases on several routes mainly to Spain and apart from Bucharest nothing new. So far as far as I can see Bergerac and Reus not released and I calculate 4 not current 5 a/c next year. Given that most bases have received both new routes and higher frequencies I was kind of hoping that would be reciprocated with Brs. Maybe a nice press launch may cheer up the outlook

It is still very early days so far as the release of flights for next summer go. It is widely mentioned on this forum and elsewhere about the number of issues Ryanair releases before the schedule can be regarded as final.

As an initial release it still comes as a surprise given the marked decrease in flights between the UK and Turkey. You would have thought Ryanair would be the first to try to capitalise on the extra business from those who will likely choose traditional Spanish resorts for their summer holidays as it's regarded as a safer option at the moment.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
