Great to see. You have to wonder when they will expand yet further at MAN. An incredible sucess story.

They go triple daily on the A380 in the new year.

But fingers crossed for EK21 being upgraded two weeks later in Nov as I'll be on that!
That would certainly be lucky! It is my long term goal to travel on the 380 but missed out on my last trip when I had to travel to PHL rather than BA to IAD!

It makes you wonder whether after the 2 weeks, 388 operation on EK21/22 will continue throughout the rest of the year and indeed through to the new year.

I'm off to BKK, three of my four flights are on the big beast, including a first trip on the new EK two class EK20. The only non-A380 flight is currently scheduled to be the last leg back of EK21

Well I suppose if it is still a 77W, at least it makes a change for you!

Manchester airport giving away prizes to celebrate the fact Emirates will carry 1 million passengers in an annual year this year.

Quite a feat!

I had wondered how they knew, presumably advance bookings are sufficiently crystallised at this stage to say with certainty?

Averages out at over 83k per month. Serious feat.

Could you tell me what these most popular onward destinations are as I don't have an account to view the full article.
Bangkok, Perth, Singapore and Mumbai. I did read somewhere that Qantas were going start Perth to Europe flights with 787-8 aircraft. Whether MAN would be considered i don't know.

I think it was 787-9 to LHR. Unfortunately I think PER-MAN would be stretching the range a bit too far and when QF have a 40min BA LHR-MAN flight, as much as I would like QF to return, what is the point?
Singapore Airlines clearly need to advertise more to get these lost passengers back on a new direct service.
And then are the usuals: India and Thailand.

EK has certainly done something impressive with this feat though.

MAN will have all the data for EK's onward connections from MAN via DXB.

I don't know whether there are any confidentiality provisions over its use (I doubt it) but feel sure that it is used, together with data from other airlines, to highlight the viability of new routes. MAN-BKK being a case in point.

Just seen an Emirates A380 fly over Sandbach services on it's way to MAN! What a magnificent site!

Thanks David for the link to a positive story after all the gloomy expectations about Monarch. I was pleased to see that posts on that subject have stopped on here. All we can do is let events run their course and hope for the best outcome for MON, its staff and customers.

For completeness the final destinations stated to be the most popular are:

  • Bangkok
  • Perth
  • Singapore
  • Mauritius
  • Sydney
  • Brisbane
  • Auckland
  • Cape Town
I think it is noteworthy that, of the places that can conceivably be served non-stop, they are either already served (Singapore) or seem to be under consideration by various airlines.

Interesting that Hong Kong has vanished from this list (previously one of EK's major connection points). I wonder if Singapore Airlines can replicate CX's success now they go non-stop?

I think Emirates has built up a customer base, in some cases so devoted that they are naive enough to think that it is the only option to go east out of MAN. Singapore is an ideal example of this - I have a friend who is going to Singapore in a couple of weeks with EK and had no idea SQ was actually an option. Hopefully with non stop flights, more travel agents and advertising will be done and they can, as you say, replicate CX's success.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
