The heavy rumour of the 4th daily EK23/24 is still going, but now, the 2 class A380 has been made permanent, bookable right into the summer season.

Hell of a lot of seats to fill at MAN next summer!

When will they go to all A380 ops?

I have seen an update on another forum (which I think may be from User001 under another pseudonym?) that they have applied for a fourth daily service using a 777 from 1 May.

Nothing on the rumoured third A380. I suspect (and this may also apply to Etihad) the airport infrastructure may limit having more than one on the ground at any one time.

Its been reported on another forum and a MAN group the Emirates A388 tonight had 609 pax,and is a record for Manchester. Lets hope the high pax loads continue.

A neighbour has kindly sent me these pictures taken on the EK018 MAnchester to Dubai today (seat 11A).

There was mention on another forum a while back that flight numbers EK23/24 were now assigned for a 4th daily at LGW rather than for a 4th daily at MAN.

Is there any further news on what is happening at MAN or LGW?

edit: Apologies - as this was my first post, I should have said hello to fellow MAN enthusiasts.

The biggest plus of EKs operations (together with that of the rest of the ME3) is that it tangibly demonstrates the demand for a certain route that presently does not exist. As time goes on I expect the likes of EK to loose market share as direct services start, but the level of throughput will usually mean that the price is lower.

It's a shame that there is no equivalent heading to the U.S. to demonstrate route viability but that's just the way it is.

So EK23/24 is a confirmed LGW service. BlueBackground.net has a user that claims that a MAN enthusiast said EK would be 4 daily here before they did LGW. Just wonder what anyone's response will be after I reproduced in redacted form the CAA statistics:

"Let's look at what's happened this year passenger number wise when both LGW and MAN had changes made from 1st January:

JAN: LGW 071004 +14.02% MAN 078918 +14.06%
FEB: LGW 075045 +12.24% MAN 080655 +15.35%
TOT: LGW 146049 +13.10% MAN 159573 +14.71%

LGW went to 3 daily A380. Minimum number of seats available 178920. Equates to max 81.63% loads
MAN went to 3 class 77W, 3 class A380 + 2 class A380. Minimum number of seats available: 176640. Equates to max 90.34%

Therefore, was it not unreasonable to assume that MAN having the higher traffic figures would be in greater need of either boosting EK21/22 to an A380 service or the addition of a 4th daily service? "

It is nothing more than slot grabbing. This year was one of the last chances to boost LHR/LGW hence both airports getting an extra daily flight.

After this year, growth will have to come from another London airport or UK regions unless EK fancy forking out another 232 million and that's assuming an airline is willing to sell a slot.

MAN's time will come, it's just fell victim to circumstance this year. March 2017 is the date you need to look for.

Thanks - any hint at what might happen? Options seem to be one of:

Triple daily - all A380
Triple daily - two A380 high density
Four daily - three A380
Four daily - two A380 & two B77W

Going from top to bottom with the seat implications:

Extra 140 seats minimum one-way
Extra 99 seats minimum one-way
Extra 497 seats minimum one-way
Extra 360 seats minimum one-way

I can't see why what they did at BHX couldn't be almost replicated here. There, it was 3rd daily in August with 1 flgiht upgrade to A380 in March, adding some 600 or so seats one-way each day. Hence I'm thinking it's going to be 4 daily with initially with 2 77W + 2 A380. Brings back a bit of cargo capability here.. though I will say that I would anticipate losing it quite quickly with an upgrade to A380 on EK21/22 with 12 months after the 4th service starts.

If I can pinch Land23R's calculations, the LF in March was around 91%.

At what stage do they seek to upgrade the service? Obviously we don't have the complete picture of the entire network, but it would be out of charachter for Emirates to not make the bold move and - I suspect - add a 4th daily or go all A380...

MAN getting its 4th daily either 1st Oct or 1st Nov, Emirates can't let the upstarts of Oman air get their way from April apparently!

Cool - do we have any details (aircraft type, timings, announcement)?

I'm going to assume that it's going to mirror how LHR went as that's how our expansion has happened so around 2.30pm arrival, 4.30pm departure

Putting some actual daily capacity amounts on the earlier posts regarding current and future operations

2988 is 1 x 3-class A380 + 1 x 2-class A380 + 1 x 3-class 77W current ops

3306 is 2 x 3-class A380 + 1 x 2-class A380
3498 is 1 x 3-class A380 + 2 x 2-class A380
3708 is 1 x 3-class A380 + 1 x 2-class A380 + 2 x 3-class 77W ----> this is what I think they will go to
3842 is 1 x 3-class A380 + 1 x 2-class A380 + 1 x 3-class 77W +1 x 2-class 77W
4026 is 2 x 3-class A380 + 1 x 2-class A380 + 1 x 3-class 77W
4218 is 1 x 3-class A380 + 2 x 2-class A380 + 1 x 3-class 77W

For the above, I've gone down the route of 615 seats in the 2-class A380, 519 in the 3-class A380, 427 in the 2-class 77W and 360 in the 3-class 77W. The bottom option is where will probably end up in the medium to long-term

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
