Part of the works will be that but I also believe part of it is to update the scanners to make them compliant with the latest rules and regulations set by CAA (I think it’s the CAA) inregards to hold luggage screening.

Yes it is the CAA, it used to be the Department For Transport but it was passed to the CAA a couple of years back.

Regards the new Car Parks been built, Has anyone seen any official designs/plans as yet.

Because if the following picture that I'm going to add below here is true I honestly cant believe whats getting built down there. Somebody please tell me I'm not seeing things as I thought it was just going to be further surface car parking!!

If this is going to be multistory surely some big deep holes would have now been dug out for its concrete foundations and possibly its concrete kors would have started to appear rising out of the ground??

Years ago this area was always marked out as surface car parking, never a multi storey. The lower area opposite the terminal was always the area designated for a multi storey.

I can't see how this plan cannot be real though? Where did you get it?

The plan is from the 'Masterplan Surface Acceess Strategy' document and shows the proposals post 2024 up to 2030. There is another plan showing the proposals up to 2024 which shows all surface parking in that location. Presumably the multi-storey will be built post 2024 if/when required.

It's alarmingly close to RW14 itself as well as the protected strip. Great idea to build a multistorey car park but wrong location. Plus, if ever a taxiway is built linking A1 to E2, it would have to go. Building over a surface car park is comparatively easy.

Sadly I don't think a parallel Taxiway from A1 to E1 will ever happen due to costs involved to extend the A658 tunnel.
At best I could see the the Runway 32/14 loop been extended to include an extra E3 hold/turn off. That would possibly allow for E2 to become a high speed turn off.

The area marked A2 on the plan LBASpotter posted would not impact any future plans or proposals. A2 is beyond the turning loop in low lying ground and further away from the runway than the terminal building currently is. I'm not totally convinced it's the best location for a multi storey car park though.

Edited as I meant the area marked A2 not A1 as I originally posted.

Just out of curiosity, I don’t know if this has been mentioned before and I do apologise if it has, but will this car park have it’s own shuttle bus service to and from the airport or will it use the current shuttle bus service which will extend up to this car park, for example it might do: Terminal - Viking Car Park - Terminal - Car Rental Centre - Long Stay Car Park - Terminal etc.

Here's the drawings for the new 740 long stay surface car park that's getting built now. It also shows stage 2 which will include 1970 long stay/staff surface car park. These should be enough to take us up to 2024 according to the Masterplan Surface Acceess Strategy' document.

Stage 3 is to dual deck short stay car park 1 as follows.

This will help the airport up until 2030. The plan is then to deck the new Viking car parks as follows.

Depends if the airport are trying to make it look like an independent car park facility.

No lbaspotter. The old logo is still on the snow clearing equipment that was given a dust-off the other Sunday.

When I walked through the Terminal last Saturday (3rd) there seemed to be more seats available. The new extended lounge are was still cordoned off, I took a couple of pictures from the stairwell, through the glass they were rubbish. All that was in there were more seats. Very difficult to see the apron from the Terminal - shame - hopefully will improve before May when I next fly out.

Work is definitely underway now, just walked past the windows and they are installing the framework for the stud walls. I didn’t take a photo as there would have been a number of builders in the shot.

New hoardings have been erected around the area of the new lounges showing artist impressions of how it will look when it opens in April.

There will be three lounges: The Yorkshire Lounge (Leisure), White Rose Suite (Business) and The 1432 Runway Club (Premium).

Thanks for this. It is what I heard from another friend who had discussed it with a manager at LBA as well. I am not sure I am convinced LBA needs another lounge level. It is disappointing that when the terminal clearly needs some extra general seating areas they are using this extra space as a lounge.

From what I have been told third hand (so take it with a pinch of salt!) those on BA/KL who currently have access to the YPL based on status or cabin will use the business level White Rose Suite. Those who are in a higher status tier and who would ordinarily get access to a first level lounge (BA gold/ggls/premiers and KL platinums) would not have access to the 1432 Runway Club.

See the rumour I've heard is that BA customers will have to pay £5 entry into the lounges. Now I don' k of that's for 1432 lounge or for all of them. Haven't heard anything about KLM. All this is just a rumour too so again taking it with a pinch of salt

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
