I can't see it lowering prices. Private hire is nearly always cheaper than Hackney. I’ve just had a quick google and found that a Hackney carriage taxi from Leeds Station to the airport is about £28. No thanks, I'll be using private hire or the bus
Surely competition always lowers prices. If the Hackney Carriage company, presumably Streamline , don't compete, they don't get customers! They have been moaning for years about being ousted from LBA so now they need to take advantage of a new opportunity.

Didn't NCL have a new tower some years ago which was sponsored by Emirates when they started flying from there. Perhaps a similar deal might be arranged with another airline.

Member of the panel were concerned the airport might commence the build and then pause it with the new flight regime in place. They said at least two previous plans had been started but then paused and they didn't want to offer additional flight capacity to end up with the same old terminal with more flights without the benefit of the new terminal.

The condition of the provision of a Hackney Carriage Rank might sound a simple amendment but the airport will be part way through a contract with Arrow Taxis, a contract that will be worth millions to the airport. Moving forward it will be interesting to see how this matter is dealt with.

Apologies. I haven't been on for a while because its been too stressful. I couldn't watch today but from what I've seen here it seems they decided to revisit agreed conditions. As usual the council create more hurdles to jump through. They've delegated the decision but its clear that the councillors expect these confitiond to change...
1. Demolition of old terminal within an agreed timescale.... but is there room in the new terminal for offices etc?
2. Taxi contract-currently a good income stream for LBA. I can't see them being happy about this.
3. flights to start with the proposed morning/night slots only when new terminal completed. I'm guessing the airport will have expected this.

I think if LBA can hang on to their existing control tower, they will do so for as long as possible. It took Birmingham airport about thirty years to finally move out of the Elmdon site after the new terminal was opened!

A Hackney rank would not be for just one company, just like other ranks all over the city, any Hackney carriage can wait there for a fare. Hackney rates are set by the council, so the only competition can be from other means of transport ie private hire, bus etc. I remember when Hackney were ate LBA before, I always begrudged paying the extortionate rates and longed for a private hire service instead.

I wouldn't have thought so if it has been delegated to the Planning Officer. I could just be a matter to be to reported on by that Officer, and should be straight forward unless there is a disagreement with the Airport that can't be resolved.

Can we expect a announcement from lcc on what happens now I.e do we have to come back for another vote once conditions addressed
far as im aware if LBA management are happy with these 3 changed conditions then no more votes are needed and its approved. i might be wrong though? regarding the new daytime flying hours well the airline industry is that battered at the moment due to covid its going to take the airline industry some time to pick up to a point where those extra daytime hours are really needed. ie due to covid how many possible 6-7am and 11-11.30pm flights would they currently be say this year? all the reason to get the diggers in asap whilst we have few flights!

We can and do already have flights between 0600 and 0700 and 2300 -2330 but of course they are subject to an annual limit - one that wasn't even close to being reached last year, nor will it this year. Where they don't reach the limit they can also carry forward 10% of the shortfall into the next year, so next year's limit (2022/3) will be higher, and it's hard to see that this will seriously cause LBA a problem. I can't see them exceeding the annual quota in the next two years, so they just need to get a wriggle on and build it!
I can't see either why they can't negotiate with airlines with a view to starting flights when the terminal opens and the hours change.

But probably won't want to do anything at all until the results of any JR have been revealed.

What we have learnt through the planning process is 10% of the current night flying quota can carry over into the next year if it isn't used. When the application was submitted, the effects of the pandemic weren't known so it's likely this part of the application wont have a significant effect on the airports plans. @White Heather I think mentioned the potential to have two winning bids for the new terminal taxi rank, one Private Hire and one Hackney. If the airport were to pursue this idea it may be a possible solution to the problem.

From my understanding I don't thiink that is the intention. I read the meeting as agreeing that there should be an OPEN taxi rank that any licensed taxi could use. To just have a contracted firm providing such services wasn't what was asked for I don't think. Might be wrong of course. Your idea might well suit LBA but would it suit the Council?

When Arrow originally tendered for the LBA contract the Hackney Carriage members were invited to tender but lost during the bidding process. The tendering process might still apply with say Streamline as an example running against Telecabs with separate bidding for a private hire company. Essentially a possibility for two smaller contracts.

Has any local press said anything as to the result of the meeting? I've had a quick search couldn't see anything

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
