If we lived in a world where LBA had great infrastructure and had not been held back for literally decades with the endless bad stigma im pretty dam certain the airport would be operating with at least as many pax as bristol is now. Also to note and this is coming from me, runway length is not an issue esp when you look at BRS and LTN with their shorter runways yet 3 to 4 times as many pax as LBA.

BBC News - Council policies often inconsistent with climate goals

LBA in the news again!
Shows the BBC up again for their campaigning. And again they select Leeds and LBA to highlight rather than Manchester or other council areas supporting even greater growth of their airports. No mention of why LBA needs a new terminal or that it's carbon neutral.

At least the response from Leeds Council is reasonable.

I really hate the BBC!

They should maybe look at why the climate goals are inconsistent with modern life in general.

When the BBC decided opposing views were no longer required with climate change news items it became a passport for jernalists to write whatever they wanted knowing their reports couldn't be challenged.

This is why every global warming news item comes with burning fires or polar bear images, otherwise known as click bait these days.

I’ve received a response to the email I sent the other day, it doesn’t awnser the question I asked them but here it is below:

Good afternoon

Thank you for contacting Mayoral Enquiries, I am a Policy and Casework Support Officer and have been asked to respond to your enquiry in this instance.

In May 2020, a planning application was submitted to Leeds City Council (LCC). Planning decisions rest solely with the relevant local Planning Authority; however, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority has previously submitted comments to LCC, recognising that there is a difficult trade-off between the economic benefit the airport brings, and the carbon it produces.

The application was approved by the City Plans Panel in February 2021. However, this was subject to a change and tightening up of certain conditions being discussed and agreed with the applicant, a Section 106 agreement and referral to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Part of the draft Section 106 agreement includes a package of around £4 million to improve public transport to the airport, including financial support for bus services, and a new spur road to the proposed railway station.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has now put in place an order which prevents LCC from granting planning permission without special authorisation, and the Government has offered no indication of when a decision will be made.

I hope that this helps answer your question.

I see the councillor for Climate Change and Transport and Sustainable development has been interviewed on the propaganda machine news in regards to Climate change and air travel. Yet proving how brainless these morons in the council really are.

She's totally ignored the fact we have a nation-wide framework for aviation which to put it in it's simplistic terms is to get people to use their local airports rather then travelling down to the overwhelmed Southern airports and Manchester/Birmingham. But apparently we don't have one. Worried about more flying failing to acknowledge you need more stands to accommodate more flights departing early and arriving late at night. The idiot also explained that the vast majority of the people travelling out of LBA are frequent flyers. She wasn't probed on this like she would have been had we interviewed her as I'd of asked a) where are these frequent flyers flying to and b) if that is the case why have we got far more leisure orientated routes than business. I'm surprised they didn't interview a waste of space Labour MP too just to add a bit more onto the notion that if LBA gets a new terminal the world will end. Leeds has 5 of the morons willing to push climate propaganda.

It makes me laugh that she's the on the leadership team representing sustainable development yet allowed her council to sign of a huge housing estate off the ring road behind the Canal/main railway line between Wharfdale/Airedale areas and Leeds. How is that sustainable? No improvement to the road infrastructure, no additional criteria met to have a train station serving that estate to ensure people living in the estate and commuting into Leeds don't have to drive and no buses contracted in to provide an alternate means of travelling. Instead many more cars on the ring road using two of the busiest roundabouts in Leeds and nothing to mitigate a rise in congestion. These people are clueless and moronic. Leeds council slightly corrupt? Probably.

Re our mayor, Tracey Brabin, and her views on LBA, it's interesting to see today that she is being praised for her activities and especially what she is doing for businesses, by no other than Henry Murison, who is probably the most outspoken guy out there in favour of the airport. I would think he must have had conversations with her about LBA, so is probably aware of her ' true' feelings about the current terminal application. Let's hope his generous praise and calls for her to have even more power to make decisions indicates he knows something positive that we don't.

I can't comment on issues relating to LBA but Leeds Council is probably no different to a lot of local authorities.

From experience of Birmingham City Council, they have little or no understanding of key issues. The Planning Department seems to have a stranglehold with councillors scared to challenge their decisions. Birmingham Council has always wanted the cheapest job, BHX is a fine example. They're unable to see far enough into the future with projects like the runway extension. Diverting a main road instead of sinking it below the runway extension. The same main road that is crossed by numerous elevated roads, including access to Birmingham International Station and the NEC. Ongoing drainage problems that often render the extension unusable.

Based on experience, good luck in getting a local airport that really serves the area. Hope Tracy Brabin continues to be a great advocate for the people she represents. There are still some good politicians around, sadly they're very few and far between....

Well here at LBA, despite a few green warriors on the Leeds City Council Planning Committee, they did approve a new terminal and by a decent margin in the vote. Unfortunately, due to Green Belt legislation the application had to be approved by the Housing Minister, Robert Jenrick. It should have been a straightforward sign off within 30 days.
Many months later, all that has happened is that he ordered Leeds Council not to confirm planning approval until he gave permission, which he hasn't. Our much needed new terminal appears to be lost at the bottom of his in tray. Consequently the airport continues to have no idea whether or not it will be operating in future from a world class carbon neutral terminal or one that is 56 years old and which was past its use by date 20 years ago.
The issue with Tracey Brabin is that like most politicians, she isn't nailing her colours to any particular mast, and is very much sitting on the fence, no doubt trying not to lose support on either side. Given the importance of the airport to the region and it's economy, her apparent lack of action in supporting the terminal and the thousands of jobs it will generate, is unacceptable. At present, her agenda appears to revolve entirely around buses and bikes.

The problem I find with her is that she doesn’t want to let people down or annoy them hence why she stays quiet on the airport plans. But I’m becoming more convinced that she’s not as supportive as she’s made out before.

The issue I see here is her constant stuff she posts on social media about becoming greener and not really much about the airport. She bangs on about Jobs but funnily enough doesn’t mention the thousands of Jobs going to be created by the new terminal.

Isn't she a former actress? She ought to be good at appearing to be all things to all people.

Yes and a very crap one. But that was when she was acting now she is in charge mostly of West Yorkshire and I believe she now has to be honest with the people especially when you voted for her because she said she supports the airport and I gave her a vote on the basis. But starting to feel betrayed by her if I’m honest.

Just as I was by my MP Alex Sobel.
Clearly, the Labour Party in this area at least, are not to be trusted.

We have a similar problem down here with Andy Street. Wants to regenerate local town centre so sent our questionnaire with support from local MP, Andrew Mitchell. Everything seems to have gone quiet. Perhaps there were more people like me who suggested bulldozing and starting again!

At election time, we never see any of the prospective councillors or parliamentary candidates. Yes, we get their leaflets full of empty promises. The mayor's newsletter is the same. Oh no, we're due another one soon....

Governments love to prevaricate over airport expansion yet fail to recognise the growth/income it can bring to an area. Will be debating LHR third runway for another 30 years....

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
