My next door neighbour works for a contractors who were included in the tender list for the terminal and has seen the plans. They wouldn't go out to tender if it wasn't going to happen, but the works schedule is very tight and it will take some sorting out. The contractors have to show how they will meet the tight deadlines, and usually such contracts have 'liquidated damages', which is a penalty payment for failing to hit the milestone targets. That alone can scare off some contractors. The winning tender will need to work with the architects on the works programme, which can take a few weeks to sort out in a complicated case like this, so they will need all the time they can to make sure everything is satisfactory, including ordering and deliveries from sub contractors.

I would expect the airport to make an announcement when they know for sure the exact start date and exact completion date (as per the contract), and when they will be sure to get some air time on local TV and radio - so that would be when Sir Jimmy Savile has finally been laid to rest perhaps!

In retrospect it does seem all very cloak and dagger without sending melodramtic.
It just seems very strange, and yes I know I'm harping back to 2008 but then the airport were falling over themselves with images both to the press and on their own web site. This was way before any planning application had gone through and tender for works put out.
But this time round it's the absence of images/drawings for all to see that stand out with this revised set of works to the terminal.

I've been told the Travelex branch in hall A is to close from next week. This is in the vicinity of where the new escalator and lift is planned. This will coincide with the scheduled start date of the work according to the planning documents.

Will Travelex appear in the refurbished terminal then, because they still do have their 'hut' in the departure lounge, but I suppose that will be moved as well.... :whiteflag:

Well they must be staying at the airport somewhere, as they are currently advertising for staff at LBA on the airport jobs website.

International Arrivals & the small booth airside! :)

That is correct Huddy.

According to the planning submissions a new shop will be located near the current first floor food village.

Thanks for that; White Heather, Huddy and Aviador.

I never understood why they had that small booth by the Security Queuing Zone. If people wanted to use the Foreign Exchange, they would get them either; Air-Side or in the International Arrivals Area...

Anyone know what the building materials are for which have been delivered recently over near the Crash-gate next to the Multiflight hanger on the south-side?

I'm only asking as I haven't seen any planning permission been sorted for any works on the South-side to be undertaken this winter by either the Airport or Multiflight. Also noticed that someone has started some works on dismantling the spare Control tower which is also on the south-side beside the Pan.

Perhaps they are building a new spare control tower and the materials are there for that purpose? The old one always looked like an old garden shed anyway. I presume it is there because having one is a requirement and that in time, it will need to be replaced with something a little more substantial, but hopefully someone will know for sure.

Work is being carried out to install centreline lighting on taxiway Lima to enable LVP operations at Multiflight.

Well according to the LCC planning documents, today was penciled in as the start date for the work to build a new mezzanine level above check-in hall A. Clearly the work hasn't started today and we're still waiting for any news on the development from the airport authority.

. . . . in other news, the apron road is having major workings done to it between stands 6 and 1. The new layout saw the inbound CDG, G-CELE parking on stand 5. The first 737-300 to park on stand 5 in some time! As it now stands I think stand 5 will be used as a last resort as the stand was a tight fit and ment the fueller had to position his tanker behind the aircraft when fuelling to keep clear of the apron road, meanwhile stand 2/3 now accomadates an embraer 135/145.

Stand 6 remains the same and can accomodate up to a 737-300 however the equipment bay has been removed from what i can make out to allow the apron road to go round the back of stand 5. Thats all folks. :drinks:

You would be surprised what we could get on what is stand 5 today back in the old days. I have seen both a Concorde and an A300 parked there.

When FlyBe were using the Astraeus 737 on the Exeter service a few years ago, this was regular on stand 5.

According to the latest AIS docking chart published today, stands 2 and 4 no longer exist.

Does that mean we officially have just 22 stands now. :search:

Technically 20 as stands 20 and 23 are class B stands so would proclude the use of stands 19, 21 and 22, 24 should a class B aircraft be parked on 20 and 23 respectively.

To be fair the original stands 2 and 3 could only accommodate J41 size units so the nose out stand 1 taking up to F70 size units and the new deeper stand 3 taking ER4 units makes some sense with the current portfolio of aircraft operating. I understand that the better angled stand 5 allows for better pushback onto alpha taxiway for a nose east facing push for larger units

Still not officially announced yet but I've heard the terminal work is to commence the first week of December.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
