I am sitting in my office here at BHX and am wondering about what the record is for "Heavies" on the ground at BHX at any one time is.

I have a photo on the wall which shows 2 x VS 742 and 2 x BA 742 on the main terminal at the same time (obviously a diversion day down south). I can remember the Euro 96 championship where we had 3 x Corsair 747's on the ground at once and I think we also had 2 x Martinair MD11's on the deck at the same time (one of which was tech). So that makes 5 x heavies at once. Can anyone remember a day when we had more than 5 at once?

To keep it fair I would suggest within the time the new terminal was open (which was 1984 if my memory is right). This avoids the well known diversion days when LHR was closed and we saw so much metal on the ground you could hardly see the terminal.

I am trying to think about the G8 conference when we had 2 x Japanese 744's 1 x AF1 1 x Canadian CC150 (A310) as well as an Air Transat L1011. This still only comes up with 5 on the deck at the same time.

Further to this when we had the Jag/Ford charters coming in I can remember one day when we had 2 (or 3) 74F's as well as 1 x DC10F and 1 x IL76 on the ground on the same day (but not at the same time.

Can anyone help me with this one?

Great idea for a thread CL44, I hope somebody can answer that one for you. Euro 96 brought many regional airports some interesting visitors and for some airports some of the busiest days ever. Although I can't answer your question with respects to BHX I remember 2 Corsair 747's, Concorde and a DC10, and a couple of A300's at Leeds at the same time which is certainly a record for Leeds. Fingers crossed for us getting the World Cup!

It's interesting. We were getting up to 4 747's back then - now we're lucky to get one a year! Unless of course, we get diversions from Heathrow & Manchester.

I don't think the runway is largely the problem, but no airlines have any to operate here. Should all change within the next year though.

I think on the same day there was also a Russian AF IL76 and a Russian IL96 as well as a USAF Starlifter. Whether they were on the ground at the same time I'm afraid I can't remember, it sure was a great time though.

Some nice pictures of the day on the link below

I can't seem to get the link to work, does anyone have any idea's? There are some great photo's on there well worth seeing.

If I remember correctly I think either on day 1 or the day before the G8, we had the two Japan Gov 744's, the Canforce A310, the Russian IL96 and IL62 all on the Main Terminal side, along with a USAF C5, a C141 and AirForce 1 all together.

I don't suppose you remember if the French Air Force A310 was there at the time?

It was certainly thier ray, not sure if it arrived on the day(morning) or the day before, but i deffinatley remember it arriving as it was becoming an event for pairs - 2 x C5s, 2 x JAP 744s, and the two A310s.

What a great event

Seeing as this is where the conversation has developed it's probably as good a place as any for a couple of clips during the G8 Summit.

British Airways used a 767 to New York instead of the usual 757. You can also see the tails of the two Japanese 747's and what might possibly be a Russian Air Force IL-96?

Monarch DC-10 heading off to Orlando, only posted as some G8 aircraft are visible on the Elmdon Apron.

Canada 3000 757. Skip to the end and it taxi's past the two Japanese 747's and the Russian aircraft.

Quick general question:

Out of interest, how does the noise output from the 787 compare with other heavies?
