Jet2 only allow tour operator allocations to the canaries when the flights are operated by 757's. Selling seats direct to Jet2/Jet2Holidays customers has much higher margins than tour operator allocations so selling 50 seats to Thomas Cook means that only 98 seats are left to actually make a significant profit (based on a 737-300) conpared to 180 seats on a 757. You might find that Thomas Cook will not be taking allocations on the Jet2 Tenerife/Lanzarote routes over January/early feb as it is mainly operated by 737's over that period.

Lanzarote is actually availbale and bookable all winter using Jet2. Tenerife according to Thos Cook travel agent, is definitely not.

Hi

Just thought I'll let you know that the Thomas Cook Airlines, Leeds-Bradford Airport base closes this evening with the arrival of the scheduled TCX83HS service from Cyprus-Larnaca at 18:45. The flight is been operated by Airbus A320-200, G-KKAZ.
After night stopping she will position out empty for the very last time early tomorrow morning at 07:00 as TCX276P to Dalaman.

It will be sad to see them go, in fact many of the crews and aircraft engineers (even those based at Manchester) are sad the base is being closed. It's just one of those things I guess, airlines come and they go. Hopefully Thomas Cook will manage to sort itself out over the coming years and we might see them back at LBA one day.

New boss at Thomas Cook announces major cutbacks

Thomas Cook’s new chief executive Harriet Green set out her vision for turning around the ailing company on Wednesday, announcing £100m cost-savings over the next three years and promising more cutbacks to come.
Her battle-cry came as the company unveiled a second year of losses, running to £590m, which the new boss branded “unacceptable”. It follows news in October the travel company will axe 430 jobs at its UK airline.
She vowed to eliminate duplication and reshape the business, but stopped short of detailing job cuts, saying: “The look of Thomas Cook going forward will be different.
“I expect we will be hiring and developing certain parts of the organisation and reshaping other parts of the organisation.”

Full-year results saw the company plunge further into the red with pre-tax losses of £485.3m, down 22pc from a £398.2m loss last year, largely due to a £368.7m write down following poor trading. Revenue declined 3pc to £9.5bn.

Ms Green, who was parachuted into the world’s oldest travel company 17 weeks ago, said current business was more buoyant with bookings for the winter season ahead of committed capacity.

I believe that Thomas Cook has secured aircraft financing of six A321-200s from Airbus after a purchase agreement dated November 2011, by way of a leasing agreement with GECAS. Lets hope we see a return of one or two to Leeds.

Does this mean TCX are coming back?!

Bad news to report. As of today it would seem Thomas Cook Group have fully pulled out of Leeds/Bradford. They did have holidays on sale taking seat allocations on Jet2 flights but now no flights or Holidays are available to book for next summer 2015 season. I also understand that any passengers already booked are been offered either a transfer onto Manchester services or there money back...

Thanks LBAspotter. That is extremely bad news. It means they're not interested in even keeping a token gesture type of operation at LBA.

Looking on their website and it seems they are still selling seats on Monarch's PMI flights for example

I've just rechecked there holidays website http://www.thomascook.com and after putting in 5 random dates in July and August 2015 for a 7 night holiday to Majorca from Leeds/Bradford it just keeps on coming up with the following message.

We're sorry, we did not receive a response from our system, please try searching for your holiday again in a few minutes.
If you still experience problems, please call 0844 879 8444 (Mon – Sun: 8am – 10pm)

So don't know which website you've been looking at "Ap1995"!

If they have pulled out, it seems a strange decision that a company of their size doesn't think it can compete with Jet2 Holidays and Thomson. I bet LS/TOM are laughing to themselves!

LBAspotter, when I looked it was for the beginning of May and flights and hotels did come up, maybe it is a technical error or maybe they are pulling out all together! we will have to wait and see.

hi all
have just done a dummy booking on the Thomas cook web site for a 2week holiday to the inturotel Esmeralda gardens on Majorca on the 9/6/15 and its showing monarch scheduled dept at 17-00 return 21-35.
regards

However doing further investigation, looking on Monarch's Twitter page, a poster put;

'@Monarch booked our summer hols saturday. Disappointed to hear no flights to palma on sat 27 june 2015 from leeds bradford through tom cook'

and then monarch went on to say that there was a flight available that day from LBA, then the same poster put;

'@Monarch we booked our hol through thomas cook and they said that flight was no longer available so we had to go with them from east midland'

so it does look like they may have stopped booking onto LBA flights for the summer season.

Does anybody think Thomas Cook will ever be likely to return?

I am able to find holidays with Thomas Cook to Majorca, Tenerife, Dalaman and Faro on selected dates throughout S15 from LBA using either Monarch or Jet2. There maybe other destinations available, I have not checked that far yet. Palma for example is bookable in May, most of June, Sept and Oct, but no availability at the end of June, July and Aug. There certainly does not seem to be any evidence to suggest a complete pull out from LBA by Thomas Cook at this stage, rather than a general realignment of holidays offered throughout the season.

Perhaps this is a situation whereby Jet2 and Monarch are not making seats available to Thomas Cook during their busiest periods. Thomas Cook have no divine right to block book seats and must surely be in a position whereby they can only buy what the airline operating them allows. Both Jet2 and Monarch would presumably feel able to fill their respective aircraft on the busy routes during mid summer, without block booking a proportion of seats to another operator? Thomas Cook need to decide if they want to operate from LBA or not - and if they do get their own aircraft back over here.

Good news I suppose! I would seem that somebody Thomas Cook Holidays Group has seen sense at long last as they are once again selling holidays available from Leeds/Bradford Airport for summer 2015 season. To state the obvious its not the own charter flights, it looks like they must have struck some seat deals on Jet2 and Monarch Airlines flights.

Routes currently on offer
Palma = Monarch
Tenerife = Monarch & Jet2
Fuerteventura = Jet2
Las Palmas = Jet2
Lanzarote = Jet2
Bodrum = Jet2
Antalya = Jet2

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
