Re: Rumours

Nice to see "Rumours" with correct spelling for a change.
Maybe not everybody has spell check! :D

Re: Rumours

I'm not the greatest speller in the world but I was once shot down on pprune for spelling it as 'rumor' instead of rumour. Er, by the way, how do you spell forum? :nea:

Re: Rumours

It was a tongue in cheek comment in general.
I see it regularly spelled incorrectly on prune and keypub.
The spelling I used for forum (forum) was taken from the other LBA website and was also tongue in cheek.
I too am not a great speller but I know how to use spellcheck.
At the end of the day it is not so important but, bad spelling lowers the quality of a website or an article.
It is difficult to take the poster seriously.

Re: Rumours

I think a lot of spelling variations are down to the USA. As we know they spell a lot of words differently to British English, and indeed use different words at times as well.

Because of the influence of the USA on so much of our culture many British people now grow up thinking the American spelling is the 'correct' one. The Americans spell rumour as rumor, although they agree with us on forum.

One of the latest American spellings taken on in this country, now even by such bodies as BBC and Sky television channels is shrank. How many times have I read in recent times how the economy has shrank. It has shrunk!!

I'm just waiting for the media to use the American word dove instead of dived. I could go on and on but I won't..................................

Getting back to this thread, how many weekly charters has LBA so far timetabled to Turkey for summer 09? I've just read elsewhere that EMA has 18 weekly charters at the present count.

Re: Rumours

Very few in comparison. We have six flights to Turkey planned for this summer:-

1 x Jet2
3 x Thomas Cook
2 x Onur Air

Re: Rumours

How does that compare with summer 08?

I've been reading that non-Euro areas such as Turkey are likely to be more popular with British holidaymakers this year because of exchange rates.

However, the two main airports in my neck of the woods (BRS and CWL) haven't released their summer 09 timetables yet on their websites (or hadn't when I looked recently) so I can't assess how things are going here.

Re: Rumours

We had one or two Turkish flights cancelled last minute in 2008. I'd say it's a net reduction in Turkish flights overall.

Re: Rumours

I was thinking it would have been an increase it were not for the fact that the Onur Air is only operating from July this year instead of May. Frankly I am surprised given that Turkey is a non Euro country, so demand should be reasonable. There is time for them to increase flights yet if the demand is there.

Last year we had 2 Thomas Cook to Dalaman and 1 to Bodrum, plus one Onur Air to both those destinations. The usual Monday morning flight normally operated by Sun Express or Pegasus was cancelled for the entire summer - so I think we had 5 flights weekly throughout.

This year we have 6 as the above are still operating plus there is the Jet2 flight to Dalaman. So I think there is a reduction by 1 flight weekly up to July and then an increase in 1 weekly from July onwards.

Of course I might be mistaken - not unusual for me! I am sure that someone will be able to confirm or correct my thoughts anyway.

Re: Rumours

Thanks for the replies. I read somewhere that Onur is not operating from CWL this summer - they had several weekly flights last summer to Turkey - but I have not been able to confirm the absence.

Re: Rumours

Here's one doing the round at the moment.... a couple of bmi Regional crew were talking about a new route to Munich today. I'll believe it when I see it!

Re: Rumours

Well if its going to be one a day, 4 days a week, departing at 11:40 with connections to Verona or something daft lol tell em not to bother :eek:p

:D

They will be able to add it to the growing list of cancelled flights in about six month time. :spiteful:

Re: Rumours

Spot aviador, i think if it did go ahead then i wont give it 2 months .

we need airlines that are willing to give it a go best example is jet2 and how well they have done at leeds

Re: Rumours

This would obviously be another one down to the LH connection. Some of you will know that I have been wanting a Munich flight for some time, but I must admit I would have preferred a Jet2 flight to BMi, as like many others I have lost faith in them. They never seem to give a route a real chance to get going before weilding the axe. If they do operate it, I only hope they get the timings right rather than doing a middle of the day job because they have nothing better to do with their aircraft - as seemed to be the case with Copnehagen, Lille, Cork and all the rest!

Re: Rumours

A poster on pprune has suggested that Easyjet might be starting a new service from London Gatwick to Leeds Bradford.

As a Gatwick based easyjet pilot whose entire family live in Leeds I am, albeit selfishly, rather pleased that we may be about to see a stable LBA-LGW service. Lets hope its on a 319 and I can get my staff travel! I wonder if other people will potentially find LGW more convenient that LHR? Surely in terms of travel time to central London it must be neck and neck between the Central Line and the Gatwick express.

I do agree however that it is sad to see BMI go after all these years - I've used that service more than a few times!

If the rumour is to be believed it would be fantastic to see the Orange brigade at LBA.

Re: Rumours

I wouldn't rule out easyJet.

John Parkin was highly thought of by the senior people at Go when he was at Bristol, and several of these people went over to easyJet when they bought Go.

He and Tony Hallwood, who also has great experience of the Big Orange from his days at Bristol, will know their way round dealing with easyJet.

If LBA can get easyJet interested it would be a coup because, from personal experience, I regard them as a very good and very reliable (for the most part) low cost airline.

Re: Rumours

I would rather have Easyjet at LBA than Ryanair to be honest. If we got just one flight to LGW, it would be a foot in the door, and other routes might follow.

Re: Rumours

There is a rumour doing the rounds that Jet2 have bought an ex XL airways 767 for use on routes from LBA and MAN, and also that their 737 fleet is also to have winglets fitted to improve fuel economy.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
