You can't blame the staff for leaving early if they have new jobs in prospect elsewhere. The new owners of Flybe ought to have recognised the likely problems and not just at CWL. Perhaps they did but judged it was something that they could do little about and would have to live with it and hope the 'new' airline comes out at the other end in better shape to provide a proper service.
I don't blame the staff at all. I would do the same in their shoes and I can also imagine many of them being incredibly bitter towards Flybe as essentially their jobs are going to Edinburgh, Southampton/Exeter and Belfast. It's not as if Flybe are pulling out of the airport altogether.
As for the new owners would they really be that bothered about cancellations at an airport like Cardiff? I'd imagine they'd be more concerned about Manchester, Birmingham and Heathrow.

Flybe must be feeling the heat from their recent glut of cancellations from Cardiff... This morning's 7:10 DSA-BHD was cancelled with the plane sent south to cover for a likely to be 2 hour delayed CWL-DUB.... If I was a DSA passenger I'd be pretty pssed

I'd imagine that it would be easier to reroute the DSA passengers through LBA or MAN or BHX than rerouting the CWL passengers.

Flybe stats May 2019
Edinburgh 9904 +1%
Glasgow 3092 +5%
Jersey 1669 -25%
Paris CDG 6957 +2%
Munich 1327 +15%
Cork 932 -26%
Dublin 8174 -11%
Milan MXP 1135 -38%
Rome FCO 970 -36%
Venice 697 -26%
Verona 950 -35%
Faro 7145 -21%
I know some of the routes had flight reductions. Jersey and Faro I think but many of the others didn't. In fact both Dublin and Edinburgh had increases and don't seem to have done well.
Italy seems extremely down. I just wonder if there is now a lack of confidence in Flybe and it's effected bookings and will effect future bookings.

Was Rome reduced in the number of rotations or was it the E175 against last year's E195, or a combination of both?

Ditto Milan, Verona and Venice.

Munich was up - how did rotations/aircraft size compare with last year? They might have picked up a few who would otherwise have used the former flybmi BRS-MUC route.

There is a link from twitter about the flybe flights cancelled. For some reason I cant transfer from there to here.

If I remember correctly Rome actually was on the E195 in May and maybe Milan but I think Verona and Venice were on the E175. I don't think the amount of flights changed.

I flew verona in early May last year and it was the E195 if I remember correctly, no more than 20 of us on a 118 plane, very strange experience

As we now know that Flybe are reducing their offering from CWL i thought i'd take a look and see how many seats a week they will be providing. Sample is from the first week in January 2020. I've taken 2018/19 from a post i did in 2018. the equivalent figures are in red.
Edinburgh will have 18 weekly departures and 2808 seats onsale. 13 weekly departures, 2288 seats onsale.
Dublin will have 19 weekly departures and 2964 seats onsale. 14 weekly departures, 2464 seats onsale.
Belfast City will have 7 weekly departures and 1092 seats onsale. 11 weekly departures, 1936 seats onsale.
Paris CDG will have 8 weekly departures and 1248 seats onsale. 7 weekly departures, 1232 seats onsale.
Cork will have 3 weekly departures and 468 seats onsale. 3 weekly departures, 528 seats onsale.
Jersey will have 3 weekly departures and 468 seats onsale. 3 weekly departures, 528 seats onsale.
Geneva will have 1 weekly departure and 156 seats onsale. 2 weekly departures, 352 seats onsale.
Chambery will have 1 weekly departure and 156 seats onsale. 1 weekly departures, 176 seats onsale.
Munich, Glasgow, Berlin, Faro, Milan and Rome came to 17 weekly departures and 2992 seats onsale.

Total of 9360 seats onsale a week and 60 weekly departures. 2018 saw 71 weekly departures and 12,496.
Total loss of weekly departures is 11 and there is a loss of 3136 seats a week a reduction of 27%.

In November and December it will be more as there was still a E195 based.

The weekly Saturday Chambery flight will be operated by a Belfast based Q400 operating BHD-CWL-CMF-CWL-BHD starting 14th December. Geneva will start on the same day and will operate on the based/overnighted Q400. This stands idle at CWL after returning from Dublin from November to the start of Geneva.
Looking at the schedule with summer 2020 in mind i wonder if most of it will be copied and pasted from the winter. If so that could mean there is a gap on Saturdays on the based aircraft for possibly a weekly Verona. They operate Verona 2 weekly from SOU in the summer on a Q400 with a 2 hour 20 minutes sector out and 2 hours 35 minutes sector return, of course it would be longer from Cardiff.
The EDI aircraft does Paris on that day so that could leave the BHD aircraft available for another route or another Paris flight?

I would like to think they may take Belfast back to 11 weekly for the summer as that could then see Paris remaining 11 weekly as well which it is during this summer.

It's unknown how long it'll stay but CWL has an E195 back. G-FBEF arrived from Edinburgh about 10 minutes ago. So for tomorrow morning at least the base will be 1 E195 and 2 E175s.

I'll need to do some more research later but it is quite possible that the base will go down to 2 aircraft in October as I've seen a tweet saying that the Belfast times have changed and they look like the times are for a daily flight.

The Flybe base will be reduced to 2 based aircraft from the 23rd September.
Glasgow will end on the 20th September.
Belfast will be reduced to 6 weekly.
Apart from some time changes on Paris the rest looks unchanged.

When was this decided to keep base with 2 aircraft.
Does this mean Faro and Italy staying.

Why I asked, its worded to reflect base staying open,as it says base reduced to 2 aircraft. Thanks for clarification Jerry.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
