If they are going to be the last ones to go then they may just want to get the most use out of the other aircraft before they send them back. It is interesting though that unlike KLM they don't seem to be bringing forward any retirements so far.

I think we’ll see a few early 747 retirements as the year goes on, but hopefully most will return when this is all over.

I think it also depends on their 777X deliveries while the 777 refit will cause some planes to be out of service.

It looks like from tomorrow Cardiff will have no scheduled flights.

No based aircraft left at CWL currently. The TUI B738 positioned out to DSA earlier for storage and the Eastern JS41 flew its afternoon flight to VLY from which it then positioned to HUY.
This leaves the impounded flybe DH8D on the ground in CWL surrounded by British Airways aircraft!

This mornings AMS is still operating today on a E175.
I believe an Eastern JS41 (G-MAJB) which has been in CWL since the 13th March is also due to position out to HUY today
I thought that AMS was now suspended from today?

Some Airports are seeing aircraft being flown in for storage. GLA, PIK, DSA and BRS. CWL is only seeing BA which I'm not sure with BAMC being there is a huge earner. It's only leaving nearly all terminal stands unutilised. Missing a trick there for some revenue.

I think the problem is that the airport doesn't have a relationship with any major airlines or another MRO operation that deals with short haul aircraft to be attractive to store them.

They don't neccessarily need any kind of relationship with an Airline to offer them a parking deal outside of standard contract terms.
They do however have a relationship with some carriers already that could bring aircraft in. TUI, FR, VS, BACF?

It's the smaller Airports that are providing storage space, some of which don't have regular operations of the Airlines utilising that space.

I asked elsewhere about the possibility of CWL seeing BA short haul aircraft stored and was told there would be no chance as Cardiff doesn't have the necessary engineering operation based there to look after the aircraft during storage.
Apparently Bournemouth has an MRO operation there that BA use, Norwich has KLM engineering which has expertise in Embraer aircraft and Glasgow and Prestwick have engineering facilities already in place.
I suppose the anomaly is DSA as VS and TUI have sent aircraft there.
As for other airports like Bristol and Leeds and Birmingham they have big bases of airlines there so those will keep their aircraft in place and I also think that although CWL does have relationships with airlines but other airports have better relationships as possibly evident by TUI choosing to store aircraft at DSA instead of Cardiff.

I do think aircraft storage in general though is something that maybe the airport could expand on in the future? Especially winter when aircraft get parked up and CWL is generally very quiet.

Think the problem at CWL is it has a relatively small site.

look at BOH for instance which is storing up to 40 short haul BA aircraft A319/A320/A321.

Cardiff has Echo and Golf which has one cross runway. If the large scathes of grass at Cardiff was actually tarmac then there is better chance.

St Athan has limited opportunity to help due to the large number of aircraft waiting to be scrapped.

Can they store aircraft on Golf? As it doesn't as far as I know seem to be used to store aircraft anyway

Hi to all.
Update to KLM situation. Hopefully the 9.45 arrival from Amsterdam will materialise tomorrow. I am presently at a completely dead Amsterdam airport waiting for this flight.
I have been told at the desk that it very unlikely that it will be cancelled at short notice.

This mornings AMS is still scheduled to operate on a E175.
A Qatar B788 (A7-BCC) is on its way to CWL from DOH.
An Eastern E145 is due in this afternoon from HUY before positioning back out to HUY.
The Eastern JS41 (G-MAJB) which was supposed to leave on Wednesday is now due to position out to HUY today.
A British Airways B772 (G-VIIS) is due in today from LHR for storage/MX.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
