CWL website announces an additional weekly flight to Tenerife and an additional weekly flight to Sharm el Sheikh by Thomson Airways.

That's the good news.

The not-so-good news is that they will operate only from end of March 2010 to end of April 2010.

Still, there might have been no announcement at all so on balance has to be looked at positively.

I agree Local, this is better than nothing at all. With some luck there may be better good news to come. Lets be hopeful

[textarea]Holiday nightmare for family stranded on plane

A Swansea family's journey to Alpine ski resort Val d'Isere took in three flights, a coach journey through Italy and more than 20 hours on a plane at Cardiff Airport

What should have been a simple trip from South Wales to France turned into a nightmare for Fiona Griffiths and her family — at one point the plane arrived at Lyon Airport only for passengers to be told they could not be unloaded.

Mrs Griffiths, from Mumbles, set off with her husband and two children, aged nine and seven, at 3am on Saturday for their planned six-day skiing trip to Val d'Isere.

However, the family were left dumbstruck when told that the 6.45am flight could not be unloaded after they arrived in France.

"We could not land at our destination airport of Chambery so we went to Lyon Airport and they would not let us off," she explained.

Mrs Griffiths, a solicitor with Graham Evans and Partners, said she was shocked that Lyon Airport would not let the travellers get off.

It was very frustrating and I don't understand why they could not unload us " she told the Post.

The passengers on the Boeing 737, almost 200 altogether, were then flown back to Cardiff and put up in a local hotel for Saturday night.

However, they were had to leave their accommodation by 4am to get back on the plane later that morning. "I had about four hours sleep," said Mrs Griffiths.

She said that, as well as a shortage of sleep, essentials like food and drink were also starting to run low.

"We were given a breakfast and I picked up some water bottles in the airport, but there is a limit to what you can buy," she said.

Mrs Griffiths said the ordeal had already proved too much for 23 travellers who decided to abandon their holiday plans.

"They got off the plane as they had had enough," she said.

The departure of some of the group, however, only added to the woes of those waiting as it meant luggage had to be taken off and reloaded.

Mrs Griffiths said plans were changing frequently but the most recent proposal was for the travellers to fly to Milan then take an arduous six-hour coach journey to their resort.

She explained that she would be happy to return home if it wasn't for the thought of leaving her children disappointed.

"They have been brilliant and they just want to go on holiday," she said.

Mrs Griffiths said, although she had experienced travel woes before, nothing had come close to this weekend.

A spokeswoman for Crystal Ski confirmed that the flight had taken off by 1.20pm on Sunday and was expected to land by 3.30pm.

She explained that the problems experienced by the Griffiths family had been caused by the severe weather.

"The conditions were absolutely terrible," she said.

The spokeswoman, however confirmed that there will be compensation offered to the travellers for the delay to their holidays.

"We have already been in touch with the customers," she said.[/textarea]

This was a TOM aircraft used by Crystal which is also part of the TUI Group.

Very annoying and perhaps distressing for some passengers but there is only so much that can be done to deal with weather problems of course.

As always communication with customers is the important thing when things don't go as planned. Airlines, airports and tour companies are not always good at this but I don't know if such was the case this time. The woman concerned doesn't seem to have been told why they were not offloaded at Lyon or, if she was, she either didn't listen or didn't agree with the explanation given.

Numerous flights were affected at Chambery at the weekend because of snow - somewhat ironic given the purpose of these ski flights - and this one seems to have been a spectacular example.

[textarea]Cardiff passengers stranded in Lapland after ‘day trip’

Almost 190 passengers - all families with young children - were stranded in Finland overnight after flying to Lapland for a day trip, the BBC reports. The families who flew from Cardiff Airport with Thomson say they are angry at their treatment with one saying it was ‘horrendous’. Thomson ‘sincerely apologised’ to passengers.

The problems started when the passengers arrived in Finland. Their flight was diverted as the airport they were supposed to land at was closed due to an incident with another aircraft. This meant all of the passengers had to go on a three hour bus trip to Lapland. A passenger told the BBC: ‘We arrived at the venue at ten to five and had to be picked up at seven forty five. The only thing we got to do was to go and see Santa in his house as we thought that was the most important thing for the children.'

When their return flight was then cancelled because the plane suffered a technical fault, the passengers were sent to a hotel in the early hours of the morning, with information on when they would return to Cardiff was not immediately available. The passenger added: ‘We understand that there was a problem with the aircraft, that can happen at any time. But there were little ones with us who required milk, nappies, baby food and the hotel, through no fault of their own, were just not prepared for us. The whole experience has been horrendous.'

[textarea]Passenger plane makes emergency landing at London Gatwick after cabin pressure warning light is activated

A Thomson Airways plane has been forced to make an emergency landing at London Gatwick after a cabin pressure warning light was activated.

The passenger aircraft with 188 people onboard was heading to the popular resort of Sharm el Sheik in Egypt when the warning light suddenly came on moments after taking off from Cardiff International Airport.

The TOM532 flight immediately dropped altitude to 10,000ft and circled Dover before heading to Gatwick to land.

It's believed a technical fault may have caused the light to come on.

A spokesman for Thomson Airways said that there was no loss of cabin pressure and oxygen masks were not needed.

He added: "Flight TOM532 was diverted to Gatwick Airport as a precautionary measure after a faulty cabin pressure light came on during the flight.

"The plane landed safely at 10.20am at Gatwick and all passengers were placed on another plane to continue their journey to Egypt."[/textarea]

Full report at http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/pa ... ing-682981

The aircraft was a Boeing 737-800.

The picture that accompanies this newspaper report is of a TOM Boeing 757, which is actually about to land at Bristol Airport.

S15 launch for TUI tomorrow, plans for CWL not looking very inspiring lol...

Some posts on other forums suggest that there will be 39 rotations per week in summer 2015, which would be an increase of five on summer 2014 according to those posts.

I think, as has been said before, the increase in flights from CWL will take longer. Slow but sure wins the race....to coin a phrase. The destinations may not be inspiring but it is a start. We just have to be patient.

[textarea]Thomson 787 Dreamliner plane to fly from Cardiff Airport

The "revolutionary" Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes will be flown out of Cardiff Airport for the first time.

Thomson Airways said it will be launching the flights next year.

They will be part of the Caribbean cruise and holiday programme for Thomson Cruises, Thomson Holidays, First Choice holidays and P&O Cruises.

Cardiff Airport said the 787 Dreamliners are Thomson's "newest, largest and most comfortable aircraft".[/textarea]

Full report at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-30326689

Cruise flights to the West Indies from CWL have been flown by B 767 aircraft in previous winters. It's a piece of welcome news for the airport.

This is good news for CWL, which is timed just right too after all the doom and gloom of late. Let's hope there is more good news to come.
Just out of curiosity, do they not have flights from BRS for these cruises?

Occasionally - perhaps once or twice a winter but I can't find anything for this winter. It seems that CWL does much better than BRS re transatlantic cruise flights and Exeter and Bournemouth also seem to fare better.

Thanks Local. If memory serves correct, there used to be a fairly even spread of winter cruise flights with P&O from a lot more airports. That seems to be changing now. BRS does well in all other areas

Interestingly had a look at the Thomson holiday booking system today, in the destinations list, Mexico is showing, when upon clicking it shows 3 highlighted dates:

May 23
May 30
June 6

Although clicking and going forward it comes up with no availability, now we know there is a direct CUN service direct from BRS next summer, perhaps a glitch and error in the system... Or is there to be a mini series announced...

BRS has Cancun flights on a saturday. Those dates are on a Tuesday. Maybe the packages are proving popular so they might put on some Cardiff flights? Would be great if they did as I don't see why they can't have packages flown out of both airports.

If it's not a glitch (difficult to believe that it is as it would have been proactively programmed by someone) it needs to be bookable and advertised as soon as possible.

Can't remember which interview it was whether it was on Sky news or Radio Wales but Roger Lewis did say that he was talking to people from TUI and maybe if these end up bookable then this is the result? But it is a case of wait and see.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
