A family of 4 flew back from Heraklion with TUI on 4th June but there autistic son unfortunately was left behind ill after being taken ill without their knowledge. It seems that the mother thought their son was at the front of the aircraft after being taken away to see the doctor. It was only when they got to Cardiff that they realised he'd been left behind.

A bit like the classic film home alone.

A few things I would like to point out in this article.

- 24 years of age is classed as an Adult
- If the mother was concerned about her Adult son, why didn’t she remain with him while he had his treatment at the Airport and remained with him throughout. Also why didn’t she check up on him at all during the roughly 4 hour flight.
- Also the headline grabbing disabled son, the mother even admitted in her statement to the media that her son was only slightly autistic.
- The son had obviously been taken away for some time as they had offloaded his bag from the flight too.

Total non event in my opinion on the behalf of Tui and they did what they needed to do by repatriating the passenger when he was fit to fly.

Embarrassed mother who maybe blaming TUI for her own failings. I maybe a bit harsh but thats my opinion and what it looks like to me. I don’t have any children but if I did then I would certainly be with them while they were seeking medical attention in a foreign airport.

"I noticed he was not in his allocated seat, but we were right at the back. I thought he was sat further down the front, there was no reason he would not be on that flight.

As a parent myself if one of my children were sick I would want them sat close to me so I could keep an eye on them. It says that they were towards the back of the aircraft so would have likely been in close proximity to the toilets should they be needed. I just don't understand why they'd settle for a sick person being placed at the other end of the aircraft?

I also don't understand why they didn't go to check on him at all for the entire flight. Even if it was another adult that I was travelling with I'd still periodically visit them to see if they were okay.

The line below makes me wonder.

"I believe TUI should compensate us.....

Well I missed him being 24! Suppose that's what happens when reading an article and texting the missus at the same time! Lol
It did strike me as odd that she didn't stay with him at the doctors and that she didn't check on him once during the 4 hour flight.
At least TUI got him home!

Yes all seems very strange that they just assumed he was on the flight. On thing to point out though is that autism can be very serious effectively trapping somebody in a child like state. The police in the UK treat people like this as if they were dealing with and under 16 and require an over 18 to be present.

Which make you wonder even more why the family didn't stay with him whilst he was being treated. It could have been a very frightening experience.

I think you have summed up the situation admirably.

Will Caerdav now have staff at CWL, on a daily basis? It could be handy for other airlines also.
I imagine that the staff will be sent over for when the aircraft is at CWL rather than be based there.

It looks like for winter 2019/20 the Monday Tenrife flight will be operated by a Tenerife based aircraft from TUI.

Some schedule updates for Summer 2020:
Cancelled flights
Monday - 2210 CWL-IBZ
(BOJ & PMI timings have switched offering better times now the aircraft isn't required for the late night flight)
Friday - 2100 CWL-PMI
Saturday - 0755 CWL-MAH
(ALC now moves to 0700 departure from 1325, allowing KGS to now depart at 1325. The KGS flight has been 2040 for a number of years and isn't nice flight times at all!)

1 aircraft still W patterns through FAO on a Thursday. Overall not too bad, MAH reduced to x2 weekly from x3 weekly. PMI reduced to x6 weekly from x7 weekly (Peak months). IBZ reduced to x2 weekly from x3 weekly. Possibly a sign of confidence growing again in Turkey and Tunisia.

3 weekly flights less. It's a shame that there are less flights but I suppose it could be worse!

Summary of TUI Routes - Summer 2019
Summer 2019 is upon us, and I realised there hasn't been a post about this summer for a while.
The based aircraft this peak-summer are 3x TUI B738 (one is operated by ASL Airlines France due to the 737MAX being grounded). This is an extra based aircraft over 2018.

I've compared a week in August 2019 to the same week in 2018 of TUI Airways schedule from CWL.

-----------------------------------------------
Number of routes operating per week:
2018:
21
2019: 25 (+4)
-----------------------------------------------
Number of flights per week:
2018 - Total:
36
2019 - Total: 45 (+9)

2018 - Operated by TUI: 32
2019 - Operated by TUI: 45 (+13)

2018 - Operated by other airlines: 4
2019 - Operated by other airlines: 0 (-4)
-----------------------------------------------
Number of aircraft based:
2018:
2x B738
2019: 3x B738 (+1)
-----------------------------------------------
Weekly Frequencies: (a '[+]' or '[-]' represents change from 2018)

Larnaca (LCA)
Reus (REU)

Notes
In 2019, the weekly FAO operates a W-pattern to EXT (CWL-FAO-EXT-FAO-CWL).
TUI are also selling seats on Flybe's 2x weekly MXP flights which I have not included in this data.

Capacity
2018 - 6,777 departing seats per week in peak summer (32x based B738 flights, 3x A320 w-patterns (2x Freebird, 1x Eurowings), 1x B738 w-pattern (Norwegian))
2019 - 8,505 departing seats per week in peak summer (45x based B738 flights)

Does anyone think in the long term that TUI will base a 4th aircraft? I suppose we could see the likes of Norwegian returning to operate extra flights but I personally don't see TUI operating dreamliners to boost seat capacity like they do at BRS.

Cant see a 4th aircraft based at CWL,as 3 based seems about right. To base a 4th there would have to be a big increase in pax,not only 1 flight but 2 at 7 days a week.It would be a big ask to do that for a whole summer season. We don't know what impact Brexit will have on the over seas holiday market, as it could affect every airport in England. If the roles were the other way round with BRS then I would give it a better chance as people are more wealthy over the Bristol side.Im sorry if this seems negative, but its a true fact. But in the airline game who knows what will happen as they seem to things how they want it.Give it a few years and hope the Welsh economy picks up.All the main Europe routes are covered with at least 1 rotation per week now,and some with multipule rotations now.TUI must be happy with what they have at CWL now,so hence not much of a change next summer.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
