New Shops, Bars, Restaurants in T2
I don't think this quite fits into the Transformation Programme thread. When I asked last time it got kicked into here with some differing views!

So, the background is that MAN will be looking to fill the roughly 60-70 new retail, food and beverage units in the new terminal building. I've heard @User001 would like more family space, but what else might be seen in the new building? I've been doing some thinking...
  • Brands elsewhere at MAN but not in Terminal 2. This may include, Boux Avenue, Attitude, Bobbi Brown, Dune, FatFace, Hugo Boss, Jo Malone, Lacoste, Next, Paperchase, Body Shop, Victoria Secret, Giraffe, Grain Loft.
  • Brands in other airports, but not currently at MAN. These may include, Burberry, Bvlgari, Cath Kidston, Hamleys, Ermenegildo Zenga, Hermes, Ralph Lauren, Tiffany, John Lewis, Mulberry, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Paul Smith, Ted Baker, Pink, White Company.
  • Manchester and North of England Favourites. These may include: Tattu, Archies Burger, Australasia, Harvey Nics, San Carlo, Boohoo, Missguided, Alchemist.
  • Chain restaurants/food outlets. These may include, Pizza Express, Chillango, Jamies, Carluccios, YoShushi, Wagamamas, Pho, Leon, Cote.
Appreciate this discussion may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I hope it demonstrates the breadth of options that may be available at MAN in the near future. it would be good to hear everyone's views.

I'm not too sure that the available summer seats is quite correct though: 11,176,866 seats for 6 months?

Look at September's monthly release and we have in the 2017/2018 financial year 13,571,166 passengers. And that's in 4 months.

Think they need to readjust the figures?!

Is the 11million number the winter seat capacity, which will likely be lower than the passengers since May (which would cover the busier summer period)?

I suppose it depends what people want before going away and the time of flights.

  • Do the higher end shops at places like LHR reflect the demographics, or the fact that more passengers are transferring or on long haul flights?
  • Are restaurants (as opposed to bars/cafes) required when most long haul departures are in the morning?
  • Are restaurants not required unless or until more late long haul departures start to appear late at night?
  • What effect do premium lounges have on demand for this?
There are late departures from each of the MEB4 (I think every night for QR?) but not much else long haul. Perhaps if TK reinstate the late flight, and there are late connections to LHR, CDS, AMS, MUC and AMS. That should be enough if all airlines are in the new terminal.

Having said that, passengers on any late departure, even short haul, would probably appreciate somewhere to have dinner if they've come straight from work!

The thing which bemuses me at MAN is the enormous queues for burgers, fries, KFC etc. even very early in the day. And they don't appear to be emerging with breakfasty choices. The time on the clock doesn't seem to matter to these passengers. It has to be a light breakfast or a sandwich (if anything) in the morning for me. But I seem to be out-of-step with the crowd! Even the smell of burgers is too much for me at 07:00.

I've not flown from anything other than T1 in the recent past - in the morning I've not seen the burger crowd (I think Burger King is a little off the beaten track) and the evening there seems to be a dearth of options.

T3 first thing in the morning is chaos with the fast food crowd you've described. I don't want to make a sweeping and potentially derogative statement - however - I'm not surprised that it contains Ryanair! I hope BA, KL/AF etc. move to the new T2 and leave T3 to Ryanair until that is redeveloped!

I've been musing about doing route maps for the based MAN carriers, or, major carriers (such as the LH group which have several routes from MAN).

I've thought this as text based news is great, but, sometimes it's hard to find a point of reference to see if a route is new and so on.

Now, would it be better to either have:

-a dedicated 'route map' thread
-in the 'routes and development rumours' thread
-each map in the airline specific thread?

If the latter, is there a way to make a post a 'sticky' so that it appears at the top of the page, like it does on Flyertalk. That way it could be a good point of reference, but of course would require an edit feature for that post, as after a certain amount time posts loose the edit feature.

What are people's thoughts.

Perhaps we could include a route map on the 'New Routes' thread I update periodically. We could include a short and long haul route map, that is updated every month lets say?

Funny you mention it, I'd thought a sticky would be a good idea for each airline thread. A summary of routes, timings, says of operation and seasonality would be useful. Not sure how easy it would be to keep up to date for the likes of Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2.

I'm not certain that the system could cope with so many "stickies". I'll investigate for you and advise in due course.

I've checked with the administrators and other moderators and the consensus is that you use the following thread which already exists.

http://www.forums4airports.com/threads/3878/

I will need to do some more checking, however the plan is that the first item in the thread can be edited by anyone - if you are happy with that - or would you rather that you PM a moderator and they make any changes?

Give it a thought and let me know over the next couple of days.

As an aside I will also be tidying up the existing old threads in this forum and, where appropriate doing some merging.

Seem to have created a lot of work for what was a simple idea lol.

Just a general question now, I'm not being prissy, honest, but instead genuinely curious, is there a reason new thread ideas need a moderator/admin sign off for the Manchester sub section, but new threads and such don't seem to need such intervention on other airport sub sections?

Its just we all know the lengths we had to go to to get a dedicated T2 redevelopment thread, now we have had permissions sought for the route maps idea and, while I appriciate it may be off Scottie Dogs own back, a tidy up of the older threads where other sub forums have not had such a tidy up?

Just seems this sub section has had far more moderation intervention than probably all the other threads combined, considering it's not even the busiest one? Willing to concede I'm probably looking too deep into something that's not there and I'm certainly not trying to tarnish the good work done by Scottie Dog, far from it, but, if you don't ask the questions, you'll never know the answers.

Good evening User001

I appreciate your comments and thoughts. I'm sure that you also understand that I have only recently started as a moderator and therefore there are some processes that I am still learning - such as whether, in answer to Dobbo's question, the system would allow multiple sticky threads (they would result in nothing but the individual airline threads appearing and nothing else). It was for this reason that I was seeking clarification.

I'll PM you more to save blocking this thread.

Simply not true User001. The entire site has very little admin or moderator intervention.

Going back to User001's original question about where to place his thoughts for a home for maps, I personally (without a moderator hat on) would be happy with either the existing Routes and Development thread or, as suggested by ethanegcc, his new routes thread.

I only think that the use of stickies would lead to many threads not being seen without having to scroll through possibly a dozen or more stickies.

On that note I'm going out for the day!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
