Thomson 757 G-OOBN flying TOM55X Tenerife - Glasgow squacked 7700 just east of Belfast and made a very steep descent from 34000 (when I saw it) right down and landed immediately on 05 (normal ops were on 23) it disapeared from FR24 around Glasgow so I assume he landed (shuttle took off about ten mins later on 05 so I think it must of been able to taxi off the runway and to the stand) I think it must of been something with pressurisation because he made a very steep descent (I clocked it at 4000f/m at one point according to FR24)

I guess it's very early days with a long road to travel before anything happens but Etihad have held preliminary talks with both GLA and EDI.

I posted this in the Edinburgh forum but I thought it was relevant here too.
The tide has really turned in Scotland with the two main airports Glasgow and Edinburgh. Both airports were carrying around the same number of passengers only five or six years ago now Edinburgh seems to be forging ahead. I still think Glasgow, the industrial and financial capital of Scotland will come back when it finds it's feet. The Common Wealth Games is certain to give Glasgow a major boost so interesting times ahead in the battle for long haul flights to Scotland.

Do you know what I have been working in and around Glasgow Airport for almost 25 years, and I would never have thought Edinburgh would be getting more traffic than Glasgow. I run a Glasgow Airport Taxi firm and have done since 1995. Iv seen some incredible ups and downs over the years, but the place holds a special place in my heart. Having watched the growth of the airport over the years it symbolises were Glasgow is at as a city, i have been privileged to meet many great people over the years at the airport. I hope it goes from strength to strength, not only from a business point of view but because of the part is played in ma life.

Welcome to Forums4Airports, Michael.
Like you I love Glasgow, so does my wife. We visit regularly from Bristol - we were last there in early September this year (the flight takes less time than it does to get across to the other side of Bristol by bus) - and we both enjoy the metropolitan buzz about the city. It has some incredibly impressive buildings and a suburban railway system that makes exploring the areas outside Glasgow itself so simple. The city has much to offer visitors in so many ways.
Edinburgh is also impressive but when push comes to shove Glasgow wins every time for us.
GLA is a pretty decent airport to pass through too.

Lost teddies at Glasgow Bearport

Glasgow Airport is asking the public to paws for a moment and help it reunite lost cuddly toys with their owners.
Every year hundreds of teddies and soft toys lose their bearings when travelling through the Airport. Some have been there fur longer than others but all want to go home to their owners.
21 soft toys have been left behind at the airport - or on flights to Glasgow - in the last three months from two-foot high blue monsters to tiny cuddlies. Somewhere in the world there are 21 children distraught that their fluffy pals aren’t by their sides but they’re waiting for them at Glasgow Airport. A happy outcome is pawssible.
To make sure more teddies don’t go astray, Glasgow Airport is today (Thursday September 21st) introducing a first-of-its-kind Teddy Tag given to any child travelling from the airport with a soft toy. The tags are available at check-in can be marked with the owner’s details.
A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport, said: “We hope the bears have enjoyed spending koala-ty time at the airport, but their owners must really miss them. We hope that somebody will recognise their furry friend and collect them
“We’re just softies really, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure more bears don’t get mislaid which is why we’re introducing our new Teddy Tag. We can’t bear for any more teddies to go missing”.
If you do see a familiar face in Glasgow Airport’s pictures, you can collect him/her from Luggage Point in the Airport or get in touch with the airport through its social media channels.

Glasgow Airport's FlightPath Fund provides over £145,000 to 75 community groups and charities in 2017

Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund awarded more than £145,000 in 2017 to help support 75 charities and community groups in Glasgow, Renfrewshire, East and West Dunbartonshire.
Representatives from community groups and charities to benefit from FlightPath Fund support in 2017 were joined by local politicians, Glasgow Airport managing director Amanda McMillan and members of her senior management team at a celebratory event held at Drumchapel Community Centre.
Established in 2010, the FlightPath Fund was set up to provide grant assistance to local organisations working in and around the airport community. Since its inception, the fund has given £1.3 million in donations to over 475 charities and community groups with a focus on improving education and employment, as well as the environment.
The FlightPath Fund committee operates independently of the airport and is chaired by former KPMG senior partner, Archie Hunter. The committee meets every two months and also consists of an elected member from each of the four council areas under the flight path.
The Renfrewshire Young Carers Project based in Paisley was one of the many organisations to benefit this year. The project received a £5000 support grant to fund a trip to Glencoe for a group of young cares from the area.
Pauline Kelly, the project’s young carers development worker who attended the FlightPath Fund event, said: “We applied for funding so that we could send a group of our young carers on a much-needed respite break to Glencoe away from the pressures they deal with in everyday life.
“The trip will have no televisions, mobile phones or computers; allowing the young carers to switch off, relax and get the chance to be children again while making positive memories that will last them a lifetime!
“We wouldn’t have been able to pay for the trip without the £5000 support grant, so it was great to attend the celebration event to meet the FlightPath Fund committee and Amanda McMillan and her team from the airport.”
Next month a further £25,000 lump sum will be awarded to a group or charity from one of the four local authority areas, taking this year’s FlightPath Fund awards total to £170,000.
Archie Hunter, chairman of the FlightPath Fund, said: “Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund has been a force for good throughout its neighbouring communities for seven years now and continues to support hundreds of charities and groups across four local authorities.
“I’m pleased to say 2017 has been an exceptional year with the FlightPath Fund providing vital support to a diverse range of organisations including this young carer groups, numerous primary and secondary school projects, community sports and environmental improvement groups and charities helping some of the most vulnerable people in society.
“The Renfrewshire Young Carers Project is a great example of the organisations and local groups supported by the FlightPath Fund and the work being carried out by Pauline and her team is both admirable and heartening.

Todays United flight to New York was cancelled after the pilots failed a breath test and therefore arrested. Not the first time it’s happened either.

Obviously we shall have to wait for a court to determine guilt or otherwise in this incident, but it's certainly not the first time similar events have occurred as the linked BBC report makes clear.

Thanks Jerry. We love visiting Glasgow - have done so many times. GLA has the feel of a biggish airport even though its current annual passenger throughput is under 9 million.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
