Qatar and Turkish performed very strongly again. The American routes, generally performed well. Numbers Slightly down on July. The Canadian routes is interesting. Westjet numbers down compared to July but Air Canada had a sizeable increase.

Terminal Expansion

Latest management report detail committed expenditure for the next phase. £58m currently committed. Primarily for the creation of gate rooms, expanded or improved immigration access, ie, to enable pax to de-plane or board without holding at the international gates and additional expansion of check-in area. The report also mentions a specific start date of January 2026 for US Pre-clearance, subject to US/UK gov agreement.
Major rehab of runway and taxi-ways also reported.

It would appear that management is committed to spending serious cash to enable the airport to grow to the next level.

Total pax for 2023

Qatar on their Doha route carried a whopping 32,013 in December 2023. +114% on 2022. This gives an approx load factor of 93%. Very impressive and silences those who claimed that EDI couldn’t sustain a double daily A359 operation.

Interesting QR has overtaken EK from Glasgow again for a second month, I believe their is definitely scope to put on a third flight in the summer

TBH I prefer the 350 to The 380

I see the Daily Record has swooped to a new low by dramatising an incident involving a parked Ryanair aircraft at the airport last weekend. The incident, where passengers were asked to disembark the parked aircraft in an orderly manor, was described as passengers "were left panicking" after a minor fuel leak was reportedly found.

Sadly it is nothing new, especially with these *insert city* live papers as well. As soon as people realise they can get their name in the news they think its a direct path to compensation so will over dramatize every element.

Sorry if this is elsewhere, but, out of curiosity, what are Edinburgh Airport's mid-long-term goals? is it to hit the 20-mill passenger mark for example?

Sorry I can't find any masterplans from after the pandemic, I suspect they were probably halted during them, but I have linked below the 2016-2040 plans for the airport.

In terms of investment, there is a full runway rehabilitation project planned for winter 2025/2026, following temporary works this winter to hopefully address some of the issues in summer 2023 with multiple airport closures and diversions.

With reference to 20 million passengers, I personally think that is going to be 2027 or later, the best case prediction I have seen for this year is 16.9 million from a post on LinkedIn, although I do not know how credible that source is.

West Coast USA is not expected in the near future according to EDI management in an interview with The Scotsman (https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/...-airport-absolutely-out-of-this-world-4097001), the runway at EDI is slightly too short at 8,386ft, compared to 10,000ft at MAN and 10,879ft at LGW (https://www.businesstraveller.com/b...existing-glasgow-base-in-favour-of-edinburgh/).

I don’t think the runway is issue. If we can operate flights to PEK With no problems then SFO or Lax should be no issue with modern aircraft like
the 787 or 350. Also talking to a friend one on the top people at Edi mentioned to me Lax could come in the few years it not if just when, all down to aircraft supply.

As far as the Runway is concerned they have plenty of room to expand if needed.

But as mentioned above most modern aircraft don’t need that much

Plus business traveller report is old report and not accurate

Their has been a lot changes in the last few years at Scotland long haul airport
this year we will have 16 long haul aircraft plus more to be announce.

As far as these publication are concerned I found out to only believe 10% of what they print.

At the end of the day all we need do is sit back and watch them grow their long routes over the next few years,

sent from iphone.

February 2024

Total pax number - 948,005

+14% compared to February 2023

EDI operated at 101% of Feb 2019 total.

A few long haul route LF’s

Turkish (Istanbul) - 84% +14% on Feb 23
United (Newark) - 90% +24% on Feb 23
Qatar (Doha) - 94% +65% on Feb 23

Another very strong month for QR. UA and TK also well up on this time last year.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
