Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

It's looking like the WHSmiths and Superdrug stores are going to be rehoused in a temporary building close to B-Hall. This is still to be confirmed. It is also thought that the Arrow the taxi company will also be relocated in this move.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

The previously mentioned new 'Caffe Ritazza' is to be located opposite the O'Brian's cafe when Gregg's and Arrow Taxis are moved from the location. I haven't found out yet if the O'Brian's shop is to stay but I would imagine it will go when the new Caffe Ritazza opens.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Here's one that's going to upset one or two folk....

LBIA are currently installing pay per use trolleys!! I don't think the punters will be happy with this at all.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Its not too bad. so long as you get back the money you put in to the trolley, like you do at the supermarkets ...everyones got use to this now seemed strange at first.

No they are pay to use!

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Bristol does it and I believe so does Luton.

Certainly don't get any money back at Bristol.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

i see, yes your right.. you know how careful us yorkshire folk are with our money!!

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

These days people are bringing less hold luggage (as a rule) due to the stupid charges on hold luggage, suitcases are out - big trolley bags on wheels are in. Airport trolleys I find are more trouble than anything, they are usually broken in some way or another, hard to find and they make ques at check in longer - and baggage reclaim is a nightmare because people still park round the belt with the trolly and 5 other travelling companions (grrrrrrrrrrrrrr).

I dont think it will have a major effect and as long as the airport company continue to develop and improve the facility i am happy for them to find new ways to make money.

The only thing i DO NOT agree with is vending machines "SELLING" plastic bags for passengers to get through security. In my personal opinion this is disgusting and the airport should not be making money out of terrorism which is what it boils down to... making money out of the situation at the passengers expense.

Anyway if you dont want to pay for a trolley, then dont. It will do some of those very overweight tracksuit wearing passengers a world of good to get lifting bags on that long walk to the terminal (tee hee). Frankly, if you have that much luggage u need a trolley !!! tut tut u have too much and need to get a grip. Stop bringing the house on the aircraft with you lol..

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

We sometimes talk of Bristol and LBA as twin airports on this forum, given their similarities with elevation, weather, short runways and potential.

Well, not only does Bristol charge for trolleys, it also charges for those plastic security bags as well as having a fast-track security channel that can be bought at extra cost.

I can accept the trolley thing - reluctantly. I don't like the other two because I believe the airport is profiteering from the threat of terrorism. I believe these should be absorbed into the airport costs that airlines pay. I suppose I am really concerned about principles, probably an outmoded concept in today's world.

That said, apart from periodic moans in the local press, there doesn't seem to have been a huge backlash against these extra charges.

Once one or two airports 'get away with it' others will surely follow as is the case with LBA and trolleys. With LBA's Bristol connections (JP and TH) it's perhaps surprising that the move wasn't made earlier.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Glad u agree with the plastic bag thing, the UK gouvernement should absorb the cost.

In most airports across Europe these bags are free!!

One thing i did not mention earlier re: the trolleys - many airports across europe charge for them and have so for near decades now. its just an example of UK airport lagging behind again as usual.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Word has it that the new trolleys will be in place from Monday, so we'll be able to see how things go then.

O'Brien's will go too, and the area it currently occupies will be a large seating area for the Caffe Ritazza...Caffe Ritazza itself being where Greggs and Arrow's is, as you say. The whole move is to tidy up and improve the meeters and greeters area. Not sure where Arrow's will end up exactly or whether the plan is to move Superdrug and WH Smith too.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I wonder if they are bright enough to allow pax to pay for the trolleys in euros.

'Bagport'

I haven't had chance to look properly at the machines yet. Yesterday I watched dozens of people wrestling with the machines, several people tried to force one of the trolley's off the guiding rail that supports them. I wonder how many of these machines have been broken in the past at other airports? All in all they do look better and they do actually work unlike most of the old trolleys.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

lol

oh dear, passengers who can not operate a baggage trolley mahcine should not be allowed to fly. Me thinks these are the same passengers that need to watch the safety demo for instruction on the operation of a seatbelt.

ha ha

Yes the trolleys acept £1 or 2 euros.

I have to say that most people are quite happy to pay a pound for a trolley that actually works unlike the ones the airport used to have (wheels dropping off etc) The only bad points are that there aren't enough of them to go around and the machines don't accept Rupees. :D

Apparently, the charge goes to pay for the upkeep of the trolleys to ensure that wheels aren't dropping off. When PIA passengers are arriving, a member of Bagport can be seen walking around with a bag or Rupees and Pound coins.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Gregg's closed for the final time this afternoon and it's staff silently vacated the building shortly after.

Gregg's you will be missed.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

A Portacabin has been positioned on the terminal front near the the Bradford bus stand. The Portacabin will provide a temporary booking office for Arrow Taxis which will shortly vacate the terminal to allow the building of the new Caffe Ritazza which is to commence soon.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
