The store is to be run by the airport so isn't a pop up and is a permanent store - although if their initial intention is to sell summer wear it is no surprise it isn't going to trade next winter. I agree they may be testing the waters and may change direction and sell something else next year. It won't be anything like a Subway as that requires kitchen facilities and there isn't the room for it as far as I know.

I thought that location was going to be part of the saltaire bar to add more seating and space, with a link through to other side?

No, this new shop is adjacent to the Saltaire Bar which has been extended too. I have never heard of it being opened up on to the walkway on the other side of the partition though. The airport want people to go through duty free, not cut straight into departures via the Saltaire Bar.

Makes sense. I was under the impression they were using this area to extend the saltaire bar for additional seating.

I think the additional Saltaire Bar seating is behind and to the right of the existing bar area (from memory). They are definitely extending it though and then next winter the whole of the existing Saltaire Bar will be refurbished too.

Don't forget with the Sports Bar downstairs being closed and now not opening until late in August along with the Airport run Cargo shop downstairs, the only place to go after Duty Free is the Saltaire bar. Unfortunately with the general flow going through Duty Free not a lot of people stay in the Camden Food/Burger King area as you've got to fight back the opposite way in hectic periods..

White Heather, I the extra seating for the Saltaire Bar - Is this going where the old MultiFaith Prayer Room and Toilets opposite the Lounge were? As well as re-aligning the kitchen so it goes in a bit of a loop against the windows overlooking the airport forecourt?

I assumed that the new clothing shop was going opposite Travelex in the new unit they've developed after the stairs once you've walked through Security? That's why they filled the roof in at the back of Check-In Hall A down the corridor into Security Central Screening?

Unfortunately just like Cargo, the airport are going to be opening all their own concessions from now on by the sounds of it. Think White Heather is right, they won't open up any more Kitchen Space unfortunately.

Sorry I am not sure. I don't get in there often enough to be familiar with the layout and although the airport did show us some plans, I cannot remember the detail, other than the location of the new airport owned shop. I seem to recall the additional space for Saltaire was to the back of the existing bar area and to the right, with the new shop to the left of it.

If I am correct he is referring to the area just after W H Smith opposite the Premier Lounge, it's been blocked for a period of time and until now I didn't realise what it was going to be used for.

According to a report I have just read, the new retail space at LBA is set to be a Fat Face clothing shop - and will also sell Leeds Rhinos products.

I've just seen this pop up on twitter. Looks like the new shop opening at Leeds Bradford Airport later this month will feature products from retailer Fat Face alongside merchandise from three Yorkshire sports clubs. Leeds Rhinos, Leeds United and Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

Well some of you may remember that I did report that the intention was to have some form of 'in house' retail outlet, so if Fat Face is part owned by Bridgepoint it fits the bill. The local sports wear on offer should also ensure it does well.

I have never used it as I have never found a spare seat or table at the Saltaire bar. It has always been manic, even early in the morning. So I too have ended up either waiting to grab a sandwich on the plane or eating at Burger King if it is a flight later in the day (no way could I face anything like that early in the morning). Hopefully the kitchen upgrade etc. will lead to an improvement in the standards and future reviews might not be so harsh. Personally, my experience is that airport food generally isn't very good. I flew from LHR to Montreal some years ago and had a full meal in T3 - which was simply dreadful, but expensive. I have to be fairly desperate before I buy food at an airport other than a pre-packed sandwich.

We were given food vouchers when our flight to FNC was delayed last month and the Gammon we had could only be described as passable.
The only times that we have planned to eat at the Airport we have used the Premier Lounge.

Used the Saltaire bar yesterday lunchtime before flying out to BCN. My partner commented on how expensive the food was but as it's the only option to have some 'proper' hot food and sit down excluding Burger King etc. The food was actually alright, definitely better than anything else on offer but also definitely NOT worth the prices they charge there (fish and chips with soft drink for 2 came to over £35). I get the feeling a little more competition for sit-down hot food would do the airport a lot of good but quite clearly that's a pipe dream with the current terminal building. This and the arrow taxi monopoly don't really do the airport any favours.

It's sometime since I worked at LBA but I was once told by a member of the SSP management that they paid a substantial amount to the airport. I can't remember the figure exactly but it was somewhere between 20 and 40%. It could of course br an entirely new agreement in place now.

I ate breakfast at the Saltaire last Saturday. It was a bit overpriced really, but tasted good. Could do with a wetherspoons in the airport.
£45 for 2 breakfasts with toast and 2 pints. Coming back we paid 12 Euros for 2 breakfasts, no beer.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
