I still can't get over Leeds City Council foolishly giving up the planned link road that would have doubled up as a link road to the council's park and ride, yet they still pursue a park and ride that encourages locals to use the existing road infrastructure around the airport. Passengers arriving to the airport by road will continue to use the same routes as before so no real difference there yet the council want to encourage more cars on exsisting local roads so people can get to the park and ride.

I swear, it would be difficult to make this up!

Well from what I hear they are going to build the northern end of the link road only, so there will be a road from the A658 down to the Park and Ride and the airport which will also serve the proposed business park behind the Avro Factory. I would think is highly likely also that Whitehouse Lane will be upgraded as this will also provide access to the business park as well as the re-located terminal. What they are going to do about Scotland Lane down into Horsforth is anyone's guess. One thing is certain, it isn't going to get any quieter on there and the road is totally unsuitable. Maybe they will widen it. It is high time they did something.

Just noticed quite a few houses are going on the market on Moor Road...I guess this cut thru from Bramhope could easily become a rat run to Otley old road and dean lane. Though major widening will need to be done especially on Dean Lane if this is the case. A friend advises that the council has been proactively buying land and houses via compulsory purchase for a couple of years now at the far end of Scotland Lane.

This is an example of why the bypass was rejected and money diverted to pointless projects. It could only happen in Leeds and we all allow it.
Essentially to create more cycle lanes around the Corn Exchange ...not trams or a system that would improve public transport. And it will cause massive disruption. The key sentence in the officer's report though is 'it represents poor value for money', but guess what, they justify it by saying schemes like this do....so why go ahead with it? The reason Leeds is in the state it is....the councillors and Directors are allowed to commit to schemes like this with no apparent accountability.

WYCA vote whether to proceed the Parkway white elephant to final business case today at a meeting.

The cost has ballooned to an astonishing £42m.

Wasnt the direct rail link estimated at £100m and that was to the current terminal rather than much closer and lower new terminal?...

Well, full marks at least for Cllr Pandor, and it is his/her view that counts, not this green guy who of course ignores the CO2 caused by the millions of miles driven every year by people crossing the pennines to get to Manchester. These people are so selective about what they mention and know which issues to disregard. I wouldn't trust the Green Party if they were the last one in existence.

You need to be very careful. Unsubstantiated allegations of possible corruption are a serious matter and could land you in hot water.

An FYI - Not too sure how HS2 will affect the airport - but its being approved.

HS2: Government to give high-speed rail line the go-ahead
The government will give the go-ahead for the entire High Speed 2 (HS2) rail line to be built, the BBC can confirm.

An announcement on the rail project linking London to Birmingham and Manchester and Leeds is expected by the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

If they want to cut the cost of HS2, the best thing to do would be to forget the Eastern leg and simply extend the Western leg from Manchester through to Leeds. Thus HS3 (Northern Powerhouse Rail) becomes part of the same project.

Maybe but do you not then lose the time benefits of having to go via Manchester around the houses.

No way, that would be the worst outcome for Leeds... A branchline off Manc with no journey time improvement to London... Why not cut Western leg and send Mancs via Leeds.

HS2 funding and money for more cycle lanes been announced....I'm guessing which one we will forge ahead with in Leeds at full steam in the next 20 years.

For our last trip we traveled from the East Coast by train to Leeds and then on the bus to LBA. Our trip to LBA was good both rail and bus (except that I found my Bus Pass had lapsed 2 days earlier). Coming back yesterday, we caught a bus from LBA at 5.15pm and when we got to the Fleece at Horsforth we stood there for 10 mins (with engine running). I asked the driver if there was a problem and he said no. On asking why we were stationary, he said he had a schedule to work to.
Does anyone know (or have experienced this), if this is a regular situation because I do not think it will encourage people to use public transport to LBA especially when you have a train to catch.

I work for a different bus company in leeds and it was the school holidays this week. It's been quiet on the roads. he could have reached a timing point early. less traffic/customers etc? They cant go past certain points if they get there early due to fines issued by metro for early running.

I obviously do not know of traffic levels between LBA and the city centre, but surely it doesn't take 25 mins to travel between the Airport and Horsforth.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
