Thanks for the link. Have been searching for it for a while. Why cant i scroll it on ipad? Do i need a log in to see a weeks mayfly and pages.

No need to log in . On the google search page select the one that says "next weeks mayfly" . It's the only one that seems to work on iPhone iPad etc for some reason

Yes thanks. Only the next weeks mayfly as a pdf works on ipads.

As usual the last departures is around the 21:30 mark. If this changes in the winter as it does some days, the departures shops will be shutting down quite early. The lounges look dead at the time and to see shops shut by 7 pm is quite eerie at times. I presume they will increase staff discounts then.

Another summer nearly done and dusted. Yippeee

And next summer a brand new security search area with dedicated channels for quick check in and staff entry. That will be worth waiting for. :pleasantry:

An interesting article focussed on the potential of APD being devolved to the Welsh Assembly. The article also mentions 'plans to introduce direct flights to long-haul destinations such as America, the Caribbean and Middle East'.

Bristol Airport could lose out on 33 flights and 1m passengers if "unfair" levy is cut in Wales

BRISTOL Airport has warned that thousands of jobs could be lost and the region could lose out on hundreds of millions of pounds if changes are made to a controversial tax.

Airports in England are complaining that changes to the airport passenger duty will give rivals in Wales and Scotland an unfair advantage.

The Scottish government announced this week that it is to cut the duty by 50 per cent and its Welsh counterpart has also signalled it is likely to follow suit.

Interesting video of the cockpit view from a B 737 landing on runway 27 at BRS.

The video highlights the rural setting, the 'hilly' runway and the elevated location above the Bristol Channel which is in the background.

The area to the left of the runway is the south apron (general aviation) together with a large car park. The main terminal is to the right on the other side of the runway but this isn't very clear from the angle of the camera shots.

I like this video taken on board an Easyjet A319 landing at BRS with the approach flying up the Bristol Channel. Amongst others you can make out Hinckley Point Power Station, then Burnham-on-Sea before making a right turn overhead Weston-Super-Mare

Vueling appear to be quite busy expanding into the UK market, I notice LBA now... I wonder if BRS is on their list and if they could complete on some routes given easy domination of the airport...

Florence would be a nice little addition, even for summer. I believe they have a base there but not 100% sure.

When Vueling commenced at CWL in 2012 the airport management was understandably concerned that Vueling might also pitch up at BRS. At the time the Vueling chief executive told the CWL management that his airline had no interest whatever in BRS. This was reported at that time.

Now of course things change, not least the fact that Vueling is now part of IAG (which is wasn't when it began its CWL services), but the CEO remains the same and seems to have a lot of discretion in the way he runs the airline within the group.

Incidentally, Florence does appear to be a Vueling base.

also am I right in thinking that there were roumours that this route to CWL by Vuelling when commenced was subsidised in some way because at the time the owners who owned CWL had a stake-holding in Vuelling so a deal was reached on landing fees etc hence why they would be 'NEVER' interested in BRS?

I've not heard that. When Vueling started up at CWL in 2012 the airport was owned by Spanish infrastructure conglomerate Abertis (90%) and AENA International, a Spanish public body (10%) through their subsidiary TBI Ltd. CWL didn't pass into the ownership of the Wales Assembly Government until the following year.

I can't find any confirmation that either Abertis or AENA had any direct links with Vueling. Given that in 2012 CWL was Spanish owned and that Vueling (by then nearly 50% owned by Iberia and since bought outright by IAG, Iberia's owners) was (is) a Spanish airline it might be thought that a synergy was in the minds of both parties.

In the end TBI (criticised by many in Wales, including leading politicians there, who believed that there was much too little investment in CWL) seemed happy to sell the airport to the Wales Assembly Government.

We have seen excellent news of expansion from other airports such as bhx and now today dsa but I'm wondering if we will see any developments here at brs too. It seems very short on any news at the moment. If we are to reach seven million in the next year or so surely we will have to see more than a handful of new routes so far announced.

In terms of overall passenger numbers this year will see the biggest rise (both percentage and actual) since before the recession with mppa rising from 6.3 last year to around 6.7, based mainly on significant increases from easyJet and Thomson, with bmi regional and Wizz Air also contributing.

Next year will see new easyJet routes to Basle, Vienna (both starting this week) and Venice Marco Polo with Wizz commencing Sofia and Warsaw Chopin in 2016. However, the total easyJet seats as things currently stand might not exceed this year's by that much with Keflavik and Catania seemingly being dropped for next summer.

Without a major boost such as a NYC or, say, Turkish to Istanbul, it's a job to see how 2016 will generate sufficient passengers to get anywhere near 7 million.

It may be that 2016 will be a relatively flat year with a hope that the hinted Ryanair expansion made earlier this year will drive more growth in 2017. However, airports like airlines are often very difficult to read and it never surprises me when unexpected major announcements are made.

Does Royal Mail use Bristol Airport to send receive mail bags. I dont see Royal Mail vans around the airport, except for the postie who collects from the post box in the terminal.

Would Royal mail send mail bags using the budget airlines? Or do they have their own planes landing at Bristol?

rotal mail used to have a dedicated warehouse at the airport. it was used every night except sat or sun nights unless christmas time.
about 2 years ago airport told royal mail that the warehouse was in the way of airport terminal expansion. the airport offered royal mail to relocate warehouse to the south side. i think with the mail market shrinking due to internet, that they decided that they would stop mail flts from brs. they used to do bfs and ema. the bfs route was shut. ema lasted about 12 months till that was stopped.all the mail now a days go by road from the brs area.i have noticed mail flts from other airports around the country has been terminated as well.royal mail did their sums and found it cheaper to send it by road.also they started putting mail back on trains which had not happened for quite a few years.youre question about easy carrying mail is a no to that one. i think british airways do most of the mail carrying across the world for royal mail.their planes carry the royal mail crest on the side, unless thats stopped as well.channel express used to have a hp7 herald parked all day till the night flts.

Further to my point, Newcastle is another destination on the list of Vueling. Not sure if this is old news. They have brought forward some flights for the festive period ahead of their launch in March 16...

If BRS isn't a target for them I do wonder why? yes their is competition but no more than anywhere else they have set up. Surely Bristol cant be that bad a proposition for them?

I echo the points made by Marko1, Bristol is quiet on the news front and I am now wondering if anything new will come this side of 15...?

I travelled out to Malaga last week with Ryan air, every seat full I might add, but it was my first time of seeing some of the changes of late. It was looking good.

most of the routes vueling serve are covered by easyjet or ryanair,on some routes both these airlines the same airport.vueling fly from bhx as well as cwl which are not so far away from brs.
fr do tfs from cwl,but nothing else from cwl.brs not so far away that they wont dilute services from brs, they would not gain anything.
vueling must be happy with bhx and cwl,as no mention any where that vueling is looking at brs. mind you if they did routes out of brs there would be a blood bath, and i would say that vueling last into brs would be the looser

I agree with superking. I doubt that there is room for a third scheduled carrier on the popular sun routes with easyJet and Ryanair already competing on a number of them and with the main charter/inclusive tour airlines.

Vueling moved into CWL after bmi baby pulled out. CWL's strong point has always been its sun routes and I was surprised that it was Vueling that moved in (I was expecting someone like Monarch or Jet2), and when it did so Vueling began fairly conservatively. Even with next summer's increases it's nowhere near daily to the likes of Alicante, Malaga and Palma.

Incidentally, I'm also surprised that Ryanair hasn't increased its once weekly Tenerife service from CWL or commenced some sun routes against Vueling. Ryanair could do this easily without opening a CWL base. The CWL TFS route doesn't seem to have compromised its BRS operation to TFS.

Looking at Vueling's bases there seems nothing that might increase BRS's route stable, although I suppose there could be a chance of a route or two to a non-Vueling base on a W operation, but that's probably unlikely and potentially costly for an airline. Most of the Vueling bases are already flown from BRS by other airlines (mainly easyJet and Ryanair) with perhaps only Seville a possibility. Ryanair flew it for a couple of summers with very decent loads and there is the Airbus connection to fill some seats.

As for more summer 2016 news for BRS there might still be some to come especially if easyJet is to base a 13th aircraft even if only for the peak summer. Wizz might have more to offer although from what I've heard Kosice could do with some more punters, unlike Katowice that began with 94% load factors for the first two months but that was in the middle of summer.

Regarding Ryanair, there's an article ("The towns transformed by budget airlines") on the BBC website which contains the following sentence (my emphasis):

Ryanair says Girona is a key airport in Catalonia, contributing strongly to the company's growth in the region, but due to a shortage in aircraft capacity, it has reduced the number of routes for summer 2016.

This only mentions Girona, but the reason given is very specific, and if true that would be a general "problem" I suppose and might perhaps explain the lack of expansion in Cardiff and Bristol as well?

Ryanair has certainly said it's been short of aircraft over the past couple of years. Jethro shows 39 new ones due to arrive in 2016 with more to come in succeeding years - a total of over 150. However, some are replacements for existing aircraft that will leave the fleet.

GRO and Ryanair fell out a few years ago with, from memory, Ryanair withdrawing all its flights one winter. They have returned in the meantime but not to the same level. BRS-GRO is due to operate 5 x weekly each month next summer, the same as summer 2015, although September this year went up to daily.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
