Where did it all go wrong ?

Hs2, Heathrow Runway 3, Trams, Buses, Rail, just about everything we are c-ap

Even Spain builds all these things in a fraction of the time it takes the UK, why ?

The industrial revolution was driven by small businesses and out of necessity of survival they got things done. Now it is big business.... I will leave it at that.

It is the result of being British. We apparently follow the 'rule of law' here and a certain concept called democracy. Not just elections but the ability to put the spanner in the works with local objections to any plans that may affect the lives of the people. A dark shadow caused by a tower ? OBJECT ! Planning consent is in the hands of ordinary people given such powers by the people that vote them in, via elections, to their lofty positions. The great men like Brunel would have had no end of trouble if he was subject to the laws of today. I remember a lot of fuss over mobile phone masts when these gadgets became popular.

And even after a project has managed to clear all the red tape around planning laws and seen off legal challenges from objecting groups and so on, it may still be at risk from greedy contractors who may inflate their quotes when government money is behind a project, as they know that if the government desperately wants a project completed, it can Borrow more money to cover increases in the project’s budget.

Yes jfy 1999, and unlike us mere mortals, the Government cannot go Bankrupt so long as it has control of His Majesty's Treasury and the lenders of last resort i.e The Bank of England and us taxpayers that fund everything. I say the Government incorrectly, I should say Whitehall. Governments are elected into office whereas the Whitehall machine is ever present and is essentially governed by His Majesty's Privy Council, which steps in when elected Parliament is unable to function ( as in the period when Parliament has been dissolved prior to a fresh election ).

Your greedy contractors are stealing from the people if they think they can inflate costs because it is the Government footing the bill. And any polititian that signs off on a project and it can be demonstrated a personal gain has occured, a charge of 'Malfeasance in public office', a common law crime in England and Wales can be raised. A brave prosecutor may feel it worthy of a Treason charge as it amounts to theft from the Monarch.

This side trip into Constitutional Law demonstrates how there are protections in place where the expenditure of public funds are concerned, it is working away in the background, quietly.

If anyone has been down to planespotting via the slope on the airport parkway bridge.Its been either demolished or it’s been resurfaced.
And also the entrance/pathway to the spotting area on R33 is looked to be workforce on.
Looks horrible round by the airport now especially that new roundabout

Yes they use these holding pen's at Amsterdam for Easyjet flights, so nothing major. If they do it at other airports, it's quite normal.

Flying with Jet2 this year so curious how this works? Is it connected to the terminal building? There is a similar thing at Dublin for Ryanair and it’s dreadful, once you’re in you can’t get out so if your flight is held up you’re stuck! Only experienced it once and that was more than enough.

No it isn't connected, it's a seperate shed located just off the main Eurohub terminal. Not sure if you walk between the two or are bussed from the termianl building ?

You walk into it directly from the terminal & go thru the different gates/exits either to the aircraft or bus, i used this recently and thought it was ok
The biggest issue for me is no one seems to plan for the future everything these days is to cope with the here and now ….. not forward planning !

New baggage belt being installed in T1.

T2 being reconfigured taking the UKBF control points from 5 up to 8 and 'future proofing' the introduction of e gates. The existing baggage carousels are to be 'increased to accommodate more bags'.

Interesting that they are targeting 13.8 million pax this year.

With today's go ahead for considerable expansion of Luton, we need to be keeping up to speed in all areas of BHX. Luton plan for 32 million pax by 2040.
Wizz are rubbing their hands with 50 Airbus due to be delivered this year.

If this summer is anywhere as near as bad as the last then I'll seriously consider using EMA until it's dealt with. My in-laws have already done so. I'm not sure how long these internal rearrangements can go on for until we finally see shovels in the ground to expand the footprint.

Ironically Paul Kehoe has just received planning permission for a new terminal to take LTN from 18mppa to 32mppa. Remember when BHX had this kind of ambition?

I really hope that whoever takes the airport on has a vision and the will to make it happen as it kind of feels as if the mistakes of the past are being made again with BHX standing still whilst others push on.

One of the reasons why I've opted to fly out of LHR. There is no real vision . Just another cosmetic makeover.

You choose which airport you fly out of because of how much vision they have rather than choice of routes, price, convenience or comfort? ...interesting choice!
