...well it looks like 3 units will be lost in the process ...boots being one of them! Based on pax figures and capacity, I suspect they would want less footfall or more space. The current status quo isn’t an option

Wonder what the time frame is for this? I would think Summer 19 would be too ambitious wouldn't it?
Possibly not. A lot of construction of this type these days seem's to be prefabricated. Not sure you could buy it off the shelf but probably not far off. Just a case of fitting it together.

May be they are offering moves to retail units to utilize more space already being taken internally?

'a new external smoking terrace' - OMG :rage: = OOB (out-of-bounds to non-smokers).
There are so many non-smoke aids to help smokers through enforced non-smoking times (e.g. work hours :sneaky:)that I see this as a very poor public health move and acquiescing/condoning a major cause of illness.

Engineering consultancy wins Birmingham Airport contract

Engineering consultancy WSP has secured a five-year contract with Birmingham Airport to support its capital investment programme.

WSP will work with the airport across a number of areas, from civil engineering to baggage handling.

Birmingham Airport’s 10-year capital investment programme involves major overhauls to current infrastructure to support further domestic and international growth.

The programme will include the expansion of its existing facilities and services, allowing it to meet increasing demand and harness opportunities created by the likes of HS2.

Looks like the car rental facilities are being moved to the land behind the Monarch hangar.

Ref. No: PL/2018/02832/PPFL New means of access off the A45 Coventry Road together with associated engineering works required in connection with the relocation of the car rental facility at Birmingham Airport (BHX). A45 Coventry Road Approximately 0.5Km West Of Damson Parkway Junction Solihull

The new access is required as part of the overarching proposal to relocate Birmingham Airport’s (BHX) car rental facility to a new site west of the Airport Cargo Centre, due to the existing facility being required as a construction compound for High Speed 2 (HS2) who will hold the land for between 4 and 5 years from 2020. It is the intention that it would also serve in the longer term a new passenger car park facility of circa 2,000 parking spaces. The relocated car rental facility and car park does not form part of this application which is solely for the new access arrangement.

Probably not the most exciting development but I like it.

The current car rental facilities are very fragmented with maintenance, wash and prep and the customer pick up all in different locations. This proposal puts them all together, which will make things much easier for everyone and we also gain around an extra 300 spaces. The only downside is the distance from the terminals and the need for shuttle buses but I can't see that being a major issue.

It will also get this facility out of the way of potential terminal expansion to the south in the future :)

Apparently HS2 are not only planning a new people mover between Birmingham International Station and Interchange, but also to replace the existing AirRail track. I'm hoping the two will be merged as part of the redevelopment of International Station so passengers don't have to get off between HS2 and the terminal.

I wonder when we'll be hearing more on the International Station redevelopment itself?

The master plan is finally to be released this month.

Plans for a second runway have been dropped to 'avoid a significant impact on Berkswell and Balsall Common' as well as 'cutting through a planned 'garden city' by HS2'. It's been said that the current runway has plenty of capacity.

It'll be interesting to see the details.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
