Re: bmi

It is just a sad but deserved end. British Airways & British Midland, 2 once very respected flagship carriers of this country have lost the plot. Turning their backs on the regional airports & business investment outside London. BMI & BMI regional just seem very badly run these days and I can not imagine the state of the books.

There is no future for airlines like this and LBA will need to work closely with the airlines that continue to invest in it, even through the recession. The brand "BMI" has no clout at all these days, infamous for high fares with low fares service and I hope Bridgepoint begin to shun them.

I very much welcome the advertisement space given to Flybe across the airport right now! They deserve it and its nice to see the management are not just sticking Jet2.com up everywhere. All flybe LGW ticket holders will also get fastrack security access.

I hope that Airbridge 7 will be restored or given new titles soon and the bmi advert is canned! Because frankly, better for business... bmi time? Well its not better for Leeds business, its not bmi time at Leeds and its looking very bad for bmi crew jobs right now at Leeds. That advert is an insult.

I think Air France KLM, Skyteam, Jet2.com or even an airport branded advert would look cool.

Bridgepoint need to really support Jet2.com, Flybe, Thomas Cook, KLM & PIA.

Re: bmi

Agree WYIA - and if they manage to get TUI/Thomson back into LBA next summer with a base, they need to find a way to look after them too, alongside Thomas Cook. We really do need more than one major tour operator based at the airport and since we are obviously not destined to get the likes of Monarch based here anytime soon, Thomson would be a carrier we cannot afford to lose for a second time.

I don't know about anyone else but it does my blood pressure no good at all seeing big bus shelter ads all over Leeds advertising TOM flights - from Doncaster. Getting them back into LBA has to be one of Bridgepoint's highest priorities surely - even though I don't particularly like the way TUI have handled things either. But it is a case of better have them on your side than against you I think and since there is inevitably going to be an ongoing competition between Bridgepoint (LBA) and Peel (DSA), having TOM come back to LBA and stay would in itself be a big blow between the eyes for Peel in their campaign to undermine LBA's position as Yorkshire's No 1 Airport.

Re: bmi

Well there's certainly enough space now in check-in hall A for a good deal of expansion from whoever may decide to come to Leeds in the future. When Jet2 commenced there operations at Leeds, they started with four 737-300 aircraft using check-in hall A check-in hall which coped comfortably.

Re: bmi

At least we will have more overnight stands available when the 2 jungle jets are pulled. Not that stand 4 is much use though, but stand 5 mght come in handy.

Re: bmi

Bigman - stands 5 and 6 definately handy. That what is planned for the new LGW service.

WYIA - I totally agree with you about Airbridge 7. They need to take those bmi stickers off and replace them with flybe ones i think. Bmi now only base a single e145 at LBA for the BRU route. Their EDI and GLA e135s are now turnarounds only as they are based at the two airports respectively.

Re: bmi

The daft thing about those stickers on Airbridge 7 is that they were put on only a couple of weeks before BMI announced that they were to pull the Heathrow service. Clearly the BMI bosses weren't talking to the BMI marketing department.

Re: bmi

Isn't the Glasgow and Edinburgh now operated by E 145 and our based aircraft for Brussels an E135??

Re: bmi

I did think that it was 1 Based ERJ135 & ERJ145's would come in from EDI & GLA. It would be interesting to learn if BMI regional has let people go from LBA or re-based them to MAN or if crews are now night stopping in EDI & GLA and performing other flights alongside the ones in and out of LBA from the Scottish airports.

Re: bmi

My mistake then i guess, sorry folks.

I was talking to some of the bmi cabin crew not so long ago and they were telling me they were going to be based in chester, but i didnt think bmi regional operated from chester?

Re: bmi

I think they probably missed the 'MAN' off the front of Chester!

Just to confirm that the Glasgow and Edinburgh routes are now operated by E145, whilst we have the little 135 at LBA doing Brussels. At least there is a minor upgrade on Glasgow and the E195 is now turning up daily (twice on Monday) doing the Flybe to and from SOU.

Sorry, whats an EADS?

I hope your question is not serious!

EADS = European Aeronautic, Defence and Space Company, the sole shareholder of Airbus Industrie.

[textarea]Leeds-Bradford flights celebrate 10 years

Airport and airline chiefs have celebrated the tenth anniversary of a key business and leisure route between Leeds Bradford International Airport and Edinburgh.

The route, operated by bmi regional, started in 1999 and now offers twice daily services out of LBIA to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

LBIA commercial director Tony Hallwood said: ‘’The airport team are pleased to celebrate the ten year anniversary of the Edinburgh route with bmi.

“We look forward to continuing our long established relationship with the airline into the next decade.’’ Peter Kenworthy, commercial director of bmi regional said: “Such a landmark really demonstrates how popular the route is, and our recent improvements to the schedule show our commitment to the region.”

bmi - "commitment to the region", those would not be my choice of words for bmi!

Re: bmi

Made me laugh even more when I saw the August figures. They really are having a laugh.

Re: bmi

Probably a last ditched attempt by the airport to cling onto the route. What's the odds on bmi leaving by April at the latest?

Re: bmi

I was talking to a circus air mate the other day and they showed me the booked figures for the BRU... they are not even filling an ERJ135 on a weekday!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
