It would be great to see some orange at LBA. Now that BA has left us it would also provide a frequent airbus visiting the airport. I really do hope this happens it would be great for the airport.

In the fullness of time I`m sure that will happen, but they are reducing the size of the company by 30% so consolidation at the bases they don`t chop out will be the name of the game for the present. When they do expand, as they will, hopefully LBA with its new facilities will come under consideration. By then of course someone like Wizz might have got in before them. You never know

Could be interesting - easyJet including a twice-daily BFS-LBA Airbus A320 service in their slot applications for this winter:

EZY281 departs BFS 07:30 Mon-Sat
EZY282 arrives BFS 10:20 Mon-Sat
EZY283 departs BFS 18:30 Mon-Fri & Sun
EZY284 arrives BFS 21:20 Mon-Fri & Sun

Wonder if it might actually happen?

If those slots are used by Easyjet they look quiet good for business users and for your average city breakers. It gives an average booked flight time of around 1 hour 10 mins, along with a 30 min turn around at LBA

Monday to Saturdays
EZY281 = BFS 07:30 – LBA 08:40
EZY282 = LBA 09:10 – BFS 10:20
Sunday to Fridays
EZE283 = BFS 18:30 – LBA 19:40
EZE284 = LBA 20:10 – BFS 21:20

Also I wonder if they may have another go at Geneva route during the winter up against Jet2 again?

I wonder though if LBA will be looking for an airline to continue the service to Belfast City. I am sure Belfast City won't want to lose their link with LBA!

Do you think we could end up better of in a situation where both Belfast Airports are served once again as they once use to be?
eg Capital then FlyBE at Belfast City up aginst Air UK then Jet2 at Belfast Int'l.
I'm fairly certain if Easyjet were to go ahead and use theses slots they would see off any competition very quickly.

Theres only a finite number of people flying between Leeds and Belfast. I cant see there being enough to make a service to both airpirts viable. Danger is that if both are served neither will be economically viable, or possibly traffic will gravitate to George Best which has to be the optimum airport. I would personally prefer to see services to that airport than Aldergrove.

Question. Does anyone have any figures to compare the FlyBe monthly passenger figures at the point of their collapse, with the total monthly combined figures to City/BFS immediately prior to Jet2 pulling BFS? I am curious to see if the loss of the 737 capacity has in any way impacted the total passenger figures since Jet2 days.

So if T3 were to use a based LBA aircraft, not necessarily a J41 doing a morning and teatime SOU rotation, then slot in 2 x BHD rotations in between, then that wouldn't compete with the U2 times. Agreed not ideal for business use on BHD but great a/c utilisation. That way both airports/routes are probably sustainable. T3 good get away with the higher fares for the convenience of BHD. If U2 does happen this is absolutely superb news

Info from the CAA provisonal Stats historical data.

Leeds/Bradford Belfast route, Jet2 ended the service to Belfast Int'l against Flybe to Belfast City in 2013

February 2013 just before Jet2 axed route
Belfast City =7,598 (flybe)
Belfast Int'l = 3,894 (Jet2)

TOTAL = 11,492

February 2020 just before Flybe collapsed

Belfast City = 9,686

TOTAL = 9,686

I do wonder if easyJet will only operate on the premise that there will be a new terminal. If LBA win this service from easyJet on the BFS route i hope that they expand it to 3 daily and expand other services. A quick look around at the bases they have which LBA could do with flights to and you'll find MXP, GVA year round, Berlin, Paris. And could potentially operate BCN.

A look at the BRS, BHX and CWL forums shows that easyJet (and Ryanair) appear to be offering themselves to the highest bidder when it comes to airports, in order to mitigate as much as possible the effects on their finances of the COVID shutdown.

My belief is they would only consider a base at LBA if the terminal is approved. Whether that means built or just approved and in the pipeline, who knows. But there is less reason not to use LBA with a non based aircraft as with BFS, with or without a new terminal.

Exactly, just because an airline flies to an airport does not mean they need a base there. I suspect this will be the case, but then in the future if we get plans approved this will change I guess

Offint is right, it doesn't matter if the terminal is old or new, if the passenger demand is there, any airline will just follow the money. all this talk about waiting for a new terminal is just nonsense.

Read the post again & it says they would only open a base with a new terminal and that statement s based on the words of the airport CEO, so probably not nonsense. However, the world of aviation has been turned on its head since he said that and LBA will be much quieter for a year or so ( though will struggle still at peak times, especially in arrivals), whilst Easyjet will be looking for profitable routes to ensure their own recovery. So who knows, especially when our Aviation Development Director came to LBA from Easyjet.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
