Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

The 2 that positioned in were ENX and DHE. DAC and EME were the operational based aircraft yesterday.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

One of the Ryanair aircraft has just been towed off the remote stand

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Do we know where it has been moved to Moo2009? Is it going to position out of LBA or going to be used on one of LBA's services?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

This afternoon there were 3 ryanair doing nothing one on stand 19 and the other 2 were on stand 13 and 14

Two TCX were on deck last night. Inbound TFS & one that seemed to be park up all day.

It's as if LBA has become a dumping ground for disused aircraft.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

What you mean is a good place for aircraft to park up in Winter and keep the parking fees rolling into the LBA coffers. I am sure we could could fit a few more Ryanairs in if we tried.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Well how many Jet2's are currently sat at LBA...? It has to be quite a few, especially on Tuesday's and Wednesday's!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I noticed than one of the ryanair 737 is parked on the pan area this morning

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

They usually put them up there to do engine running tests, unless of course they are running short of stands on the main apron and needed to make room for something. I am surprised they don't use the pan more often as you can get a few 737's up there and save apron space, although on the down side they are exposed to the wind even more and rather exposed too when it comes to security, being very close to the footpath that divides the airfield and golf course.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I have seen a FlyBe Dash-8 aircraft in the pan before now... I think it was because of the stand issues over the winter with a lot of aircraft being parked up for the duration of what can be weeks and even months without being used.

I have wondered the same thing White Heather, but I suppose if they were really desperate and the pan wasn't appropriate for reasons like you suggested such as; the wind etc. then they could always use the Multiflight Apron. What you also have to remember is the wind could easily blow a golf ball off course, and no-one is going to own up to being the player that hit the aircraft and possibly cracked an aircraft window...!

It makes things awkward as well I suppose for the airport to park aircraft in the pan area and also on the Multiflight Apron because they are both on the other side of the runway. I know its not that busy in Winter and there are large periods of time where the airport can easily maneuver aircraft in and out, across the runway, but in bad weather conditions, such as if it snows, the aircraft could easily be stuck there....! Also imagine if there were several 733's in the pan and Jet2 wanted to do maintenance on the one that is at the back...! :tease:

Anyway back onto Movements at LBA, I noticed that we have G-LSAL and G-LSAM at LBA. I'm thinking they are here at the 'HQ' before they are released from service with Jet2. Do we know when they will be leaving the fleet and where the replacements are coming from??

!

It might look that way Tom, but in reality it would never happen. I used to be a member at Horsforth Golf Club and there are no holes where aircraft on the pan would be in any danger, unless some idiot deliberately hit the ball sideways off the 10th or 12th towards the pan, using a driver. The 9th and 11th holes do head towards the pan, but they are both only par 3, and it would take a deliberate act to get a ball on to the pan from either tee, and even then it would take one of the big hitters to hit the ball a good 150 yds beyond the green. In all the 20 years I played there, I never saw a ball even cross the fence adjacent to the pan, let alone reach the pan itself.

The 12th hole is directly behind the pan, only 30 yds away, down an steep embankment, but the hole direction is SE, following the line of the runway and away from the pan. In the golf club house, there is a photo of the Cessna that used to live at Multiflight, G-BFFC, upside down on the tee. Apparently it was parked up on the pan in the days when the North South taxiway was in use, ready to take off towards Bramhope, and a strong gust of wind lifted it up and somersaulted it over the fence, down the bank and on to the tee. I don't know what year that happened, but the Cessna was repaired and seen in the circuits above LBA for many years afterwards. I think it might be retired now as I haven't seen it around for a long time.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

There are rumours that another 2 possibly 3 Ryanair 737-800's will be joining the one in the pan already as Ryanair currently have 6 a/c with no where to put them without costing a fortune, the pan is a cheaper option than a stand at Leeds.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

AS much as it is money for LBIA we don't want them. When the snow comes it appears we are the only airport despite being one of the highest, that keeps open, so keeping as much stand's free ready for this would be better then ramming a little area full of FR aircraft that they don't want to seem to want for winter anymore.

Its better to have business plan of 'guaranteed' money in the form of parked aircraft, than turning them away in the hope that you get a divert or 2.
I would hope that the other airports have got their act together now anyway. To see just MAN and LBA open pretty much all of the time while other airports were closed for days on end was nothing short of embarrassing.

I suppose time will tell.......

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I can't see anymore ryanair's or any aircraft of the sort parking up along side the ryanair thats already there in the pan. I think they moved it over there because LBA weren't happy with it been on the prime parking spots on the main apron with it not doing anything so last resort was the pan, and even then i don't think they are happy with it been there. TCX is parked 24 for the winter :whiteflag:

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Won't need to tell. We all full well know, LHR will be the first to shut, because "it can't handle the snow"

Well, they have just doubled the machine power and tripled the staff levels for snow clearance, so I hope they can manage it this time.
Leeds rarely benefits in a large way from LHR closures anyway, so, probably not an issue if LHR closes and LBA is clogged up in Ryanairs.

Birmingham will be even worse if they are hoping for diverts, they have 11 of the buggers parked up at the moment!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I see no current problem with the 2 Ryanair B738's that are in the pan, they are no longer taking up apron space and if none of them are not going to be used, I say shove the other 2 there...

White Heather kindly told us all that the Golf Course poses no threat, and the concern I raised over having to move them over the winter, if they ever were going to be used, seems not to be a problem.

It's all a guaranteed income for the airport, as many have said so roll it in...

I cant see a problem. The pan area is the ideal place for parking ryanair's planes which are not in use. Its a good way for the airport to make some extra money.

It allows the airport to have stands free on the apron if required for any diverts for which might happen if the snow comes like it has done for the previous 2 winters. It has been know in the past for ATC to also use up the Taxi-ways for parking if required.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
