Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Yes, but will the new web site cure this problem? They know what causes it - it appears to be a simple matter of someone entering both the IATA and ICAO airport codes into the system. Clearly they have still not done it with regard to Jeddah and both todays flights are also shown as Blank. Hopefully with the new website someone will go through all destinations served, at any time of year, and a few more for good measure, and put all the codes in up front and then they might stop this problem occurring. At least places like Jeddah do show up on the BBC Ceefax, but despite recent correspondence and an acknowledgement that they are aware of the cause and the airports affected, they have still not sorted it out for these flights. Perhaps the person who does it is stuck at home in the snow!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Hi

Thomson have just done a switch around of aircarft up at LBA this morning.. Thursday, 02/12/10

Boeing 737-800WL, G-CDZL has just positioned in from Birmingham as TOM9024 to operate the outbound charter TOM612 to Sharm el Sheikh.

Meanwhile the B757-200, G-OOOX which diverted into LBA on Tuesday night from Taba-Egypt has just departed back empty to Manchester as TOM9009.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

What surprised me was that the TOM 738 was in the hold above LBA for around 20 minutes before landing for some reason, whilst an FR 738, Dash 8-300 , BMi Embraer 135 and Manx2 all landed. Does anyone know why it went in the hold before landing whilst others came straight in?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Eastern Airways, Embrear RJ135, G-CGMB Currently working inbound to LBA as EZE808P from Geneva. I dont know if this was either flight planned into LBA or if it has diverted in from smoe where else..

Ah yes I'd seen that one depart earlier today. It was in First Choice colours. (It's amazing how out of date that livery now looks)

WAS IT EARLY???? HA HA

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Probably because her slot time was later than the rest so circled for a bit? Or to dump fuel.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Why would it dump fuel? It had only flown up from Birmingham, and I can't imagine why it would circle just because it had a slot time later in the morning, since it was burning fuel that it had no need to do, as it could have been on the ground. At first I thought it might be that the runway braking action was not up to the levels for a 737-800, but this was an empty aircraft, whilst the Ryanair, which did land, was carrying passengers. The cynic in me thought that being TOM, the captain would be waiting for others to land first to see what happened in the hope someone would say the runway was slippy - then he could divert to MAN!

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

When crew are looking to divert to another airport because of bad weather at their destination airport they often hold overhead the diversion airport until the time that they have chosen to land. This is primarily so they can keep the original destination airport as an option should it re-open.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

But, the TOM 737 was not at a diversion airport, it was holding overhead LBA, which is where it was flying to in the first place, and all other aircraft were landing in blue sky conditions??

I don't know then. It was just an idea. :dunno:

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Each company have their own aircraft performance manuals. Even if they use the same aircraft type in this case B738W the tables can be different. At the time the Tom arrived the runway was outside their company limits.

Hope this helps

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

RAF C17 GLOBEMASTER ABOUT TO LAND (10.20 LOCAL)

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I saw it land - they look fantastic in the air. It would be nice to see a few more Globemasters at LBA.

Going back to the TOM 737 the other day, thanks for that information Neil, although it does seem odd that a Ryanair 738 full of passengers can land, and a Thomsonfly 738 which is empty apart from crew has to go into the hold. If Thomsonfly have such stringent limitations, its little wonder that they seem to divert at any opportunity.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

Is the Globemaster still on the ground? If so does anyone know when it's due to leave?

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

I hope someone takes a photo of the Globemaster. We once had one performing low overshoots one Summer. It was to the left of the centre line and very low, I could see the pilots. It flew overhead Westbrook Lane a few times and it looked massive. At the time I thought it was a Galaxy as I was not familiar with the type.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

It dropped 2 passengers off on its visit today. It ended up taxying and parking in the 14 loop as a stand had not been assigned for it. It was probably on the ground no longer than 25 minutes this morning.

Great aircraft.

Re: Movements Log & Heads Up

First visit to this site. I came on to get info about the C17. We were leaving Waitrose, Otley at about 11.15am and saw it leave as we crossed the car park - awesome sight, lost in cloud briefly, but then watched it as it began a left turn and disappeared.

Last time I saw one was on approach to Doncaster a few years ago.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
