Great news ! A new airline ( or returning airlines to be precise )
But a dream for spotters cons757 ?? I'm not following that one :)

That's good news for BRS. Be interesting to see how the routes get on!

Didn't have that one in my list of possibles. Now that is good news especially with a new route to Florence. I take it this is BA CityFlyer.

Conns mentioned another airline that had been in touch that would be good news for spotters if it comes off, not the one that they've been in talks with for a while which turns out to be BA.

Looking at the schedule all flights arrive and depart in the afternoons on a sat on w patterns

I've now created a separate thread for BA CityFlyer at BRS so members might like to post any further comments on this venture in that thread. Many thanks.

£94 return to Florence in September. Bargain. Shame it's a once-weekly flight though as Florence is on my shortlist of places to visit. Maybe I could use BA out and EasyJet from Pisa to return.
Great to have the national flag carrier back at the airport.

Great news for the airport

I've enquired about Florence a few times and think that will be a great addition for bristol, perfect aircraft for an airport with a smaller runway then bristol!!!

I think they will do ok with these routes and offer something a bit different than the loco's do..

I wonder if this was the announcement cons 757 was talking about or is the spotters dream still to come....

Well done the airport team

Is Florence really new destination? I thought it was flown in the past.

But Pisa is so close to Florence, hardly earth shattering.

I think it is good news. It's a small airport that services a major tourist city. I would imagine most people that visit Florence by plane come in through Pisa. Only Vueling out of the locos fly into Florence. If it were more regular than once per week it might affect the EasyJet's Pisa service especially as I've found it to be very expensive.

Interesting, what would be earth shattering for bristol?

Florence is a very popular tourist destination.. I had to fly vuelling from LHR to get a reasonable price and that wasn't as cheap as some of the prices BA are quoting...

Sydney......that would be earth shattering indeed.

TLY will know if any airline flew to Florence from Bristol in the past. I am certain it did.

BA will be the first airline to offer direct flights to Florence from Bristol.
That's correct. In the BRS press release CEO Robert Sinclair confirms, "It will be the first time an airline has operated a scheduled service between Bristol and the Italian historic city of Florence which we are sure will prove very popular."

So far as I'm aware there has been no regular charter service to Florence either although there may well have been occasional flights for specific purposes. I have records going back over 30 years and Florence does not appear either on scheduled routes or charter.

No, Conns was talking about another airline that had approached BRS.

On 28 December 2016 he posted:
Not yet and no further guidance due confidentiality (re question asking about scheduled airline that turns out to be BA CityFlyer - my note). I will update mid Jan as I expect further clarity (the update was a little later as we now know - my note).

Lastly , another possible scheduled operator showed interest recently and if it comes off it could be a spotters dream !!

I'd like to think it was Qatar but that's just a guess.

Just a suggestion but what about Eurowings? Munich only has BMI on it and is Hamburg covered?

I'm not sure that Conns would describe Eurowings as a spotters dream. Lufthansa used Eurowings Bae 146-300s on its 3 x daily BRS-FRA in 2008/2009.

Hamburg is currently operated by bmi regional. Oddly easyJet tried HAM about 12 years ago and it failed. Failed in the sense that average loads were not much above 100 which of course is not what easyJet looks for even though some airlines can get good yields from lower load factors.

bmir, as is the case with them, charges very high fares on HAM but it is underpinned by the Airbus and Imperial Tobacco links between Bristol and the Hamburg region.

I take it that a spotters dream would mean something not often seen at BRS. I can't see a B777 there as it wouldn't get that far with a decent load, hence my thought was Qatar with the B787-8.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
