It is with regret that I have to report that the EGCN forum has ceased operating. If any members of that site wish to join Forums4airports you are more than welcome.

Care to share with the rest of us? There's a post on the (ex) EGCN forum front page saying that the hosting company has removed the board without explanation. A rather cryptic post on The Dried Fruit by another DSA forum owner suggests that the airport have a hand in things. A yet more cryptic post says that an announcement Re. the future of DSA is imminent and that it is "not good". Is something actually going on, or is it all fevered speculation?

I don't know any more than you about the EGCN forum other than that they have shut down. Everything else is pure speculation.

I am very sad to hear that the old board has been killed off by p-r-o-b-o-a-r-d-s. But to be perfectly honest I suspect that the language in some of the jokes may have been the cause of this.
Some of these slightly racist jokes may be acceptible in a pub between middle aged english white men who have lived in a small village all their lives, but an internet forum is basically a worldwide published medium and you can't do this without putting the board in danger of getting completely wiped.

Hi Muddlycoffee, I didn't realise anything like that was posted on EGCN. It's such a shame because I know how hard it is to build a forum up and the time and effort that goes into making it work. They become a huge information base for visitors to find things out.

Yes I suspect that the attempt to have an independant mad section delegated to Shortfinals was a mistake. When moderating a forum it is essential that you keep an eye on all of it to protect the whole thing from legal problems which can result from what people sometimes post. Mainly anything racist which ISPs and forum companies are frightened of because they can be easily be held to account for their users posts and taken to court.

Anyhow all this is speculation, I have a strong suspiscion that this is what has transpired, but we don't know for sure as far as I am aware.

Shortfinals was also a moderator too... I did notice that myself.

To be honest, it was a huge forum and it has taken me a bit by surprise, but there have been a number of disagreements about the running of the forum (and of the particularly harsh censorship) for some time, so in all fairness it wasnt a particularly open form. The FODSA group have ended up opening their own forum.

I do believe there were numerous warnings to the site owner/s before this with regards to potentially commercially sensitive information being posted up there. Whilst they cannot block that entirely, im lead to believe that a number of the regular posters were airport employees, and with jobs in jeopardy that is another likely reason.

Muddycoffee, nice to see you on this site. I do hope that some of the other posters on EGCN forums will now come on to here and embrace the DSA section as their own, and add their comments to the other sections too. As a regular viewer and occasional poster on EGCN as (JBH80) I certainly miss it after only a few days without it. The only other site DSAf, friends of DSA, seems to be lacking in content and enthusiasm.

As a "former" member of the egcn forum, I would like to encourage all other former members to join us here and get a good discussion group going about DSA.

I'd like to think people who joined us recently still feel welcome here and continue to use the Forums4airports Doncaster forum even if it's in conjunction with the new EGCN forum.

Well I would say good luck to him, but I am not going to bother. This forum is a considerable upgrade with all the other airport areas. The only reason for being on the old forum was for all the postings and data which had been collected since before the airport opened, including pictures of its actual construction. With all that stuff lost I feel that there would be little value left in a new one.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
