The official range of a Q400 is 2,050km though appreciate you wouldn't want to max that out for an efficient network.

However, even using a 1,200km limit, that include the entirety of Ireland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Northern Italy and Southern Norway.... there are certainly a lot of potential in that region!

I think I’ve read before that the advantages of the Dash speed V fuel use is for flights upto 1.5 hrs duration
which is about right for todays passengers I’ve flown on them to Bordeaux Nantes Stuttgart Hamburg all are the sort of places they hopefully are looking at, I have also flown to Milan-but this did seem along way !

The problem with European destinations further than near continent is that on the Dash 8, flight times become much longer than jet.

Vs the A320, the Dash adds about 25% to flight times. Valencia would go from 1:45 to 2:10. Milan and Berlin would be 20 minutes longer than by jet.

Any European destinations should be limited to Northern France, Belgium & Amsterdam IMHO.

The future is bright, the future is orange (y)

The problem is BHX is surrounded by EZY bases - MAN, LTN, BRS all an easy (no pun intended) drive away.

They were and probably still our BHX's top priority but very slow burner despite NB's excellent contacts from his Luton days.

That doesn't make sense Ian, LPL/MAN, EDI/GLA, LGW/LTN/STN so taking those in to account, BHX is miles away and serves the 2nd biggest city in the UK.

I stand by more comment, easyjet are quite happy for Midlanders to travel to existing bases.
I want nothing more than a BHX base but feel BHX were much too late to the party.
Easyjet also quoted on numerous occassions that yields from The Midlands were not there so thats why EMA lost money and closed.

So why do we have EDI/GLA and AMS ??

I could go to AMS from MAN or LTN ?

Also Im not bothered if it's a base or not, I just want more Easyjet flights to key cities with decent frequencies.

one route could do which could work for Flybe is Paris as Jet2 have removed BHX-CDG from sale

Plus you don’t need a base to operate flights out of an airport. Examples are Air India, PIA. Airlines which operate out of BHX yet don’t base any aircraft

And Wizz Air, plus lots of Ryanair out of BHX are away based aircraft ?

I've not seen these figures before but yesterday reported in Flight Global and Travel Weekly that Flybe have said they will have an initial fleet of 12 Dash 8s leased from Nordic Aviation Capital with it eventually rising to 32.

If twelve is the number at launch as the article seems to imply then Flybe will quickly be seen around a good number of UK airports.

Not exactly but around ten/twelve mix of the Dash 80 and Embraer 175 and 190 seems a long time ago already. MAN had a similar size base also and are widley predicted as the second base for Flybe 2.

Yes there was up to about 12 at BHX before they went bust.
This was out of a fleet size of over 80.
Hopefully we should know very soon which routes they will operate from BHX from March 2022.
Likely to be GLA, EDI, BHD and some in Europe.
No dates for other UK bases but likely to be 3 more bases at some point not sure if in 2022 ?
So we may see a good size fleet at BHX from the start ?

Flybe has appointed Assured Aviation Services as its ground handling partner at Birmingham Airport, creating more than 100 jobs.

As an airport services business, the Warwickshire-based company will provide full ground handling services for the airline including passenger, baggage, cargo and ramp handling and aircraft cleaning.

Part of the Assured Group, Assured Aviation Services currently operates from London Gatwick, Luton and Heathrow Airport.

The Flybe appointment will be the company’s first at Birmingham Airport.

Bill McPherson, head of airport and Cargo at Flybe, said: “We’re delighted to have appointed Assured Aviation Services as our full ground handing service partner following a competitive tender process. The team impressed us with their commitment to safety and their enthusiasm and demonstrated an understanding of Flybe’s vision and values. We look forward to working with them over the coming months as preparations ramp up towards our launch in early 2022.”

Andy Cruise, managing director at Assured Aviation Services, added: “We are proud to be working in partnership with Flybe at this very exciting time. We look forward to delivering a safe and punctual ground handling service at Birmingham Airport, providing all Flybe customers with an enhanced airport experience.”

The contract win follows the announcement that Birmingham Airport will be Flybe’s company headquarters and first crew base.

Got an email from FlyBe2 this morning advising that they were to carry over my marketing details held by Flybe -moving forward !!
Background
As you may have heard or seen in the news a few months ago, a new company called Thyme OpCo (later renamed “flybe Limited”) acquired the assets of old flybe Limited (in Administration) earlier this year as part of an asset sale and purchase agreement (the “Asset Transfer”).
As part of this Asset Transfer, your personal customer data on file with old flybe Limited (in Administration) (which may include booking date, name, address, home/mobile phone number, email address and language preference) was transferred to Thyme OpCo (the new flybe Limited.) either because you had previously granted old flybe permission to use this information for your booked flights and other services, or because your data was otherwise part of the permitted database of airline customers and contacts that was being used by old flybe Limited (in Administration).
flybe Limited as a data controller
Accordingly, we are writing to let you know that the new flybe Limited (company number 12875147), is now the 'data controller' of your data, and that the new flybe Limited will process your personal data in accordance with our privacy policy which you can find here.
Your data and your marketing preferences
You will have the opportunity to update your account details in future communications.
If you had previously given your consent to receiving electronic marketing (or if you had opted in when making a purchase), you will also have the opportunity to update your marketing preferences in future communications.
If you have any questions in the meantime, you can contact us at [email protected]
Thanks for your patience while we work hard to bring back a new and improved flybe.
Best wishes from the entire team at the new flybe Limited.

Whilst I wish Flybe all the very best for the future, there is absolutely no way that BHX is going to invest many millions of pounds in a new terminal for a single airline that has yet to establish itself in the market. Any decision by BHX (or any business for that matter), regarding investment will always be based on 'return on investment' i.e. generating profits from the money spent. I doubt any bank would be willing to issue loans on such a scheme and any directors promoting it would likely see their careers cut very short.

Looks like we should hear their plans next week

Saw one of their training flights land at BHX the other day and was only thinking we must be hearing something soon surely.

I'd just be happy to get the terminal extension finished tbh. By that point, the terminal will have capacity for 18mppa (vs just under 13mppa handled before the pandemic).

Given the trouble airports are having getting terminal plans approved recently, I doubt we'll see anything new at BHX until aviation has "greened up" significantly.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
