In some respects, yes, one flight is better than none but it’s only attractive to those wanting to fly to Switzerland for a week (or holidaying via a connection for 7 or 14 days)
I am sure plenty of people would fancy a 2/3 day break in Zurich but they won’t get the chance from Bristol and if people don’t take up the weekly flight, I’m sure Swiss will pull it, just like SAS did, or Eurowings (even with more than one flight per week).
Obviously I know nothing about the intricacies of setting up new routes and supply of planes for those routes, but I’ve always felt that to get a good feel for a niche route, which let’s face it, ZRH to BRS is, you need 3 flights per week to give people options. It’s good news of course, but as it’s a connecting hub, it would have been nice to have had at least 1 extra flight.
And at £481 return in half term week, good luck to them selling any seats. It’s around £185 return on other weeks.

I think there is a halfway house here.

Should someone wish to take advantage of the direct LX flights (operated by Helvetic, I understand) but not stay for 7 nights, it should be possible to combine a one-way direct flight to/from ZRH with a LH flight via FRA in the other direction.....and all be bookable via the LH website as one return ticket.

I did something similar when BA City Flyer were last offering their summer Saturday services ex BRS. I booked one-way outbound to FLR with BA, then returned via Brussels on SN. In that example of course it could not be done on one booking. In a similar vein, the Swiss railway system is so good that pax could fly into ZRH and return from GVA on Easy Jet or v/v, again, booked as 2 one-ways.

On the subject of Turkey, having recently passed through Istanbul it really is quite staggering the number of A321/B737 flights to more "regional" European destinations such as Leipzig, Bremen, Billund, Valencia etc.

Makes Bristol seem like a gleaming gap in their network.. but maybe there's a reason why they don't already!

I don’t get it either tbh. Maybe they may see how fellow star alliance partner lufthansa does first

Any thoughts on why they don’t? Lufthansa/KLM already serve Bristol? Or is Bristol considered too close to LHR/BHX to be effective…. Or is something in the pipeline maybe?

There are plenty of overlaps already at airports in the UK and Europe which have several legacy network carriers, so not sure it is that exactly. Bristol does have a pretty diverse population but perhaps other European cities (particularly German ones) have more nationalities that support the network into the Middle East and Africa. But that is just speculation on my part.

I don’t usually pay notice to a certain online encyclopaedia service and I can’t see any proof but is Aegean coming to Bristol ?

Does Easyjet still operate Athens? Aegean would be a good addition to the airline line up at Bristol and another Star Alliance carrier I believe.

As @Marko1 posted, Aegean is showing on google flights as operating BRS-ATH 2x weekly (Mon and Fri) using A320NEOs starting on the 27th March 2023. Middle of the day departures too.
This will be alongside easyJet which operates BRS-ATH 2-3x weekly over the winter (summer 2023 not yet released).

BHX-ATH also showing starting in March Tue & Fri.
Aegean already operate from ATH to LHR, MAN and EDI in the UK, and will be a great edition to Bristols growing network!

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
