Use this prefix for new threads for Bristol Airport
All very quiet on the route development front - both easyjet and Ryanair have announced new routes and frequencies from a range of uk airports but Bristol seems to be absent. Any signs of anything good happening or is that it for summer 24 ?

Interesting statement from Shai Weiss C.E.O of Virgin Atlantic. He says that Virgin Atlantic has pretty well given up on Heathrows third runway and future expansion is likely to come from expansion from existing bases,a return to Gatwick and flights from regional airports such as Bristol.Im not for one minute saying an announcement is imminent, but I wouldn't be in the least surprised if conversations have and are taking place between Bristol Airport Management and Virgin Atlantic.
Watch this space !

I wouldn’t hold your breath. I think there is airline executive licence in Weiss’ comments.

We continually hear that VS are short of aircraft. I doubt they have the airframes to do as he is saying, except on a low frequency. Would there not also be restrictions on operating some of the VS fleet from BRS, such as the A330 and A350 which are used on MCO?

That said, I have no doubt that the market is there.

Fair comment. Weiss statement said that they were looking to lease additional aircraft and i was thinking more along the line of 787s,which Tui has used at Bristol.

The ACL report for BRS is out today outlining the provisional slot allocations for S25.

Highlights are as follows (Numbers below show weekly departures):
NEW
- Pegasus *NEW* - 7x weekly slots requested to SAW (Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen) - (Nothing on sale yet!)

SWAP
-- Edelweiss *NEW* - 6x weekly slots requested (only 2x weekly to ZRH currently on sale - more to come?)
-- SWISS - No slots requested (operated 2x weekly to ZRH in 2024)

INCREASE
- easyJet UK / Europe - 434x weekly slots requested (+10 on 2024 - not all on sale)
- Ryanair UK / EU - 204x weekly slots requested (+56 on 2024 - not all on sale, however they seem to request more than they use)
- Jet2 - 116x weekly slots requested (+6 on 2024 - not all on sale)
-- TUI - 77x weekly slots requested (+2 on 2024 - not all on sale)
-- Freebird - 4x weekly slots requested (+2 on 2024 - not all on sale)
- Corendon - 4x weekly slots requested (only 2x weekly AYT currently on sale)
- Emerald Airlines - 29x weekly slots requested (+3 on 2024)

- KLM - 28x weekly slots requested (same as 2024)
- Loganair - 12x weekly slots requested (same as 2024)
- SunExpress - 5x weekly slots requested (same as 2024)

LOSS
- Aegean - No slots requested (operated 2x weekly to ATH in 2024)

New Destinations
SAW, IST, PMO, CGN are not yet on sale but showing as new destinations vs summer 2024
SAW = PGT
IST = EZY (op in winter)
PMO = EZY? / RYR?
CGN = RYR (op previously)
Also AGA is a new destination with lots of slots requested, however only it's only on sale with Jet2 and RYR, could TUI or EZY possibly add flights?

Few things to add/query:
1. Seen elsewhere edelweiss is 5 weekly allocated not 6
2. Istanbul with ezy was announced as year round by them and the airport. Curiously on sale for w24 + w25 however

Anyone else having problems downloading the acl report - usually no problem ?

Agadir is on sale for easyjet holidays twice a week so maybe will be launched flight only later this month ?

Well that didn't last very long. Bit of a suprise with them getting extra slots though

Seems strange - sometimes airlines do this to reschedule their flights so it may reappear shortly with different times/ days - easyjet and Ryanair often do it.

However it does seem Bristol cannot keep hold of new airlines that start routes - Lufthansa , Swiss ( replaced by leisure airline edelweiss ) , Aegean ( no slots requested ) and now possibly corendon.

Growth next summer once again seems to fall onto easyJet’s shoulders as jet2 , Tui and Ryanair have more or less stagnated

Considerably more expensive than easyJet on the same route when looking at August. I don’t know much about Pegasus. Do they offer more than EasyJet?

Pegasus Airlines
New route from SAW
(Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen) to BRS (Bristol) - 3x weekly flights (Tu, Th, Sa) starting 8th July 2025.
Pegasus has a huge hub at SAW and there will be lots of connections available to other Turkish destinations plus destinations in the Middle East.
easyJet also operate to Istanbul 2x weekly (Monday & Friday to the larger international airport 'IST'), however those flights are aimed more at business and city-break traffic as easyJet doesn't offer connections.
This is an exciting addition to Bristols growing portfolio of airlines

A new route although not a new destination as such.

I can’t help but take this as a “runner up” prize to having the almighty, very well known and respected TK serving the brand new global hub that is IST with their massive reach of connectivity vs what is officially a “lost cost” carrier to the lesser known SAW.

Make of it what you will…

But a new carrier nonetheless 👍

With 2 carriers now operating BRS to Istanbul, I think the chances of TK joining the party have been greatly increased …. I’ve been told the airport is working on multiple new route opportunities and the future is ….. put in whatever colour you like!!

That would surely put Turkish off not encourage them. If Turkish were that set on launching a route to Bristol you'd have thought they'd be at the airport by now.
There's no hiding the fact that Bristol does seem to struggle to attract and retain carriers like Turkish with the exception of KLM. It'll be interesting to see if Bristol can overcome that.

I think that is correct. The point to point traffic will be well covered by EZY and PGT. It is interesting that in TK’s last statement about future routes, there was no mention of BRS, the planned UK routes being NCL and GLA.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
