Hi all. I am making a visit to me mums this weekend. To avoid that wedding in TV that my family will no doubt watch, my kids and I are considering a visit to the airport. I assume there are places I can legally park the car near either end of the runway or if we chose the MSCP on the Elmdon side, can we park there? Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Sheldon country park is a good viewing point you can park in the side roads and just walk through the terminal is a distance away though.I prefer the multi story on the Elmdon site as you get an elevated view of most of the airport and can see both ends of the runway. Have a good trip.

Is there a wedding or something seems like the dog will be getting a long walk to the pub then!

Thanks Rollo. Some bloke who's gran has a castle and an American actress getting hitched. Good luck to them but prefer to not watch.

Know what you mean, personally I'd rather watch the Villa and thats from a bluenose however dog insisted on the pub.
Have a good day.

I'm drifting off thread again.

Depending on how much time you have (and the weather) you could park the car on Elmdon Road and walk the path that parallels the railway line. Once past the houses it offers great views of the northern aprons with the runway beyond. If you choose you could then walk through the terminals and follow the path around to the viewing area.

As rollo has said Sheldon Country Park is also a great spot with the added advantage of being able to spread out a blanket and have a picnic if the weather is nice.

Whatever you decide have a great day :)

Does anyone know where is a sensible parking place to access the path on the opposite side of the A45 from runway 33? I know Flugsnug gets some decent videos from there I wonder what it would be like for photography

It's quite tough to park close to that area now with all of the red lines that have been painted. Leaving the car on Catherine-de-Barnes Lane isn't ideal either.

In the past I have parked on Old Damson Lane, close to the entrance to the rugby club, and then walked along the A45. I think it took around 10-15 mins or so.

Further to Ray’s reply. If you visit Sheldon country park at a weekend or Bank holiday, then you can park in the Marston green rail station car park. that is on the park side, not the Marston Green side.It is free to park in there and I have never had a problem.
I am aware that some residents do not like people parking on Elmdon road, especially those using the train services and leaving their vehicle for hours on end.
Although rare,I have heard of some vehicles being ticketed for anti-social parking.
As already said, you can walk from there to the terminal via a footpath along the rail line,or into the country park. Both offer good views and photo opportunities.

Thanks Ray. May bump into some of you. I will be the one with the loud Essex kids....if you hear someone shouting "Nathan! nathan! Don't chase after the aircraft Nathan! Oh bloody hell, Nathan!" Then that will be me. If I can get some decent snaps I will post them.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
