Great photos Snagsanger.

Just looking on Wikipedia and the BHX entry and there is a long shot of the airport from Yardley in 2008. Does anyone know of a more recent photo from the same location? It is a cracking shot giving a great overview of the airport. I have been trying work out where in Yardleg it was taken from. Maybe the tall block of flat at the Swan shopping centre.

I suppose with the Monarch facility it is difficult to get a good oblique overview of the airport without hiring a helicopter and doing a long low sweep down the runway whilst snapping away clinging on for dear life. :)
I have been looking at the photo trying to work out where it was taken. It doesn't look as far away as Yardley. The row of shops in the foreground look like the ones on the A45 between the wheatsheaf and the arden oak pub so my guess would be somewhere up in the lode lane area but I'm not sure there are any particularly tall buildings up there?

It's most likely taken from the tall building in the Swan shopping centre because of the direction of the runway and the position of the terminal, and you can see those shops on the A45.

Just had another look on maps and IF the shops are the ones on the Coventry Road I don't think you would see the frontages from the Swan.

I think the picture was taken from close to the Wheatsheaf pub/hotel.
There used to be a couple of tall buildings, one was used by Maersk Air,the other by Severn Trent on the other side of the road. The shops you see are the ones just past the traffic lights heading towards the airport.
Not sure exactly where the photographer was,but I don't remember any other taller buildings in that vicinity.

Sounds about right to me. In terms of distance it looks as if it would have been somewhere between the wheatsheaf and the ice rink?

Thanks all. Next time I come up I may see if I can gain access and have a try at getting a shot. The photograph is registered to someone in Tennessee. BHX travels far!

Fantastic pictures mate, thanks for posting them. I look forward to seeing your next batch (y)

Thanks also for solving the Wiki picture mystery, I've looked at that a few times and thought that it had been taken from the office block at the Swan. The row of shops are where Manor House Lane joins the Coventry Road, opposite where Harry Ramsdens used to be.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
