Turkish 737 Max 9, appears to have gone tech Sunday morning, outbound Istanbul cancelled, and aircraft is night stopping BHX

TUI 788 G-TUII is running over 24 hours late from Montego Bay, due in Sunday morning, now expected Monday, due to the outbound Saturday morning flight diverting to Manchester, after 5 hours in the air, presumably another tech issue, maybe connected to the electronic navigation issues it had a few days ago? Aircraft re-departed Manchester Sunday morning.

Tk Max9 did a go around this morning so I wonder if it has anything to do with that

TUI positioned in a 788 on Sunday morning from Gatwick which then operated to Cancun presumably replacing the poorly 788 diverted to MAN so avoiding further pain all round.

TUI G-TUII has finally departed Montego Bay on TOM855, a staggering 50 hours late, due in to Brum around 08:15 Tuesday morning!!

All diverted in at the last hour, not sure what's happened at Bristol, some didn't even attempt landing at Bristol first, just came straight to BHX, METAR Weather looks fine

Hi there all, with the Heathrow airport announcement, are we expecting Birmingham airport to be extremely busy today or normal.

Everything seems to have gone to Glasgow, Gatwick or Manchester with the exception of the Hong Kong flight mentioned above me.

Other flights have diverted into random (for them) airports en route or back to their departure airports according to FR24.

Ultimately up to the Captain to decide where to divert on grounds of safety however I suspect it’s in the ‘staff manual’ to at least try to land (where possible) at an airport with that airlines existing presence where practicable.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for Birmingham to suddenly become like Heathrow arrivals 🤣

Parking space must also be an issue, at first almost all the diverts were going to LGW, but then LGW stopped receiving them.

Our parking space must have been limited - today, a lot of our based aircraft were having a bit of a lie-in, with Jet2, and easyJet having departures scheduled well past 0900. I doubt many of the Heathrow flights could have held over BHX for an extra 2-3 hours while waiting for our aircraft stands to become freed up.

Then, there would have been the issue of where our based aircraft could park when they returned in the afternoon. I saw a pilot say online that airlines want to avoid a “Hotel California” situation, where they can “check in to an airport, but never leave”.

If we became filled up with Heathrow diversions then we would have a lot of frustrated Brummies stuck abroad!

There are a few of the diverted planes that went to Europe now coming into UK ie THA to BHX and ETH A350-1000 to Manchester now that the rush of widebodies have gone

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
