Off topic, but I've been watching quite a storm for the last 30 minutes here just north of Cambridge. Plenty of flashes, including some amazing fork lightning. The 'bangs' however were subdued and delayed so I couldn't have been directly under the storm.
I really love a good thunderstorm (a free pyrotechnics display - just make sure you're in a safe place). One of the best thunderstorms I ever witnessed, was from the viewing lounge at BHX. It was first visible many miles to the south and I watched it for 3 to 4 hours until it disappeared to the north. During that time, the terminal took a hit and all the infuriating slot machines in the viewing lounge were silenced. You don't realise just how much noise those things make until they don't work.
The control tower also reported that they'd taken a hit, but I don't recall traffic being badly affected.
