taken from the Aviation Herald :-

A Jet2.com Boeing 737-800, registration G-JZBC performing flight LS-1202 from Lanzarote,CI (Spain) to Birmingham,EN (UK) with 194 people on board, was enroute at FL380 about 200nm southsouthwest of Faro (Portugal) when the captain decided to divert the aircraft to Faro due to the first officer feeling unwell. The aircraft landed safely about 30 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration G-GDFS positioned to Faro, departed Faro about 5 hours after touchdown of G-JZBC and is estimated to reach Birmingham with a delay of about 5.5 hours.

The airline reported the first officer felt unwell prompting the diversion to Faro. The first officer was okay, it was not clear whether he had been taken to a hospital.

Faro emergency services reported they responded with 34 emergency vehicles and 81 rescue personnell to the medical emergency and blocked a traffic lane between airport and hospital for emergency vehicles only, the hospital called in their stand by staff.

The occurrence aircraft departed Faro about 15 minutes after G-GDFS and is currently positioning back to the UK.

G-GDFS just landed BHX at 00:41, G-JZBC landed MAN 00:55

Considering that they had to dispatch a replacement aircraft 5.5 hours isn't too bad at all, well done Jet2.

Obviously the main concern is for the first officer, I hope that he or she made a full recovery.

a passenger onboard the flight said:-

I was on the plane yesterday and what happened was the co pilot had been so ill he had as far as what we could see projectile vomited all over the cockpit and on the pilot so badly that the plane must had been unsafe to continue. The first officer was taken off in an ambulance. We had a emergency landing with fire engines and emergency vehicles following us down the runway on landing.
The other plane was still there when we left last night and is still there this morning.
I must admit though that Jet2 were amazing and kept us informed and looked after us really well.

Have to feel sorry for the cleaning crew!!!!

If that's what really happened it's going to be one heck of a clean up operation. I don't even know if some of the electrical items would need replacing. You never know what damage some damp carrots could cause.:wtf: Glad to hear it all ended safely.

G-JZBC which is only 3 month old, is back in service, must have been "cleaned" over night in Manchester, then departed to Tenerife this morning, and is now returning back to Brum in a few minutes!

We've already seen the effect on BA per my post in the Heathrow thread. When my brother starts talking about 80% chance of heavy snow where he is (Exeter) on Friday then this really could be the most significant impact for a number of years.

BRS seems to be closed at the moment. It was taking inbounds until around 1800 (all outbounds after about 1400 were cancelled following airlines' operational decisions) but a TUI B757 from Arrecife due at 1845 diverted to MAN after circling overhead BRS for about 40 minutes.

The TUi 738 holding over South Wales has now been joined by a Thomas Cook A321 from Cape Verde. I think BHX is closed for another half an hour or so.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
