A squall with severe wind shear has seen 3 aircraft holding off landing at around 13.20 until 13.40. A Jet2 from Palma did a go-around. A TUI B789 also from PMI held off, and a Ryanair from Faro. All returned to normal soon afterwards.

That's very unusual isn't it as I very much doubt there would a problem for the 787 to reach these destinations (particularly MBJ) from BHX even with a strong headwind. Is there more to it such as availability of fuel?

FR24 is showing Easyjet A320 (G-EZWC, EZY12NG) LPA - LGW as having diverted to BHX, arriving at 23:51. We've had a thunderstorm move through here in Cambridgeshire, not sure if that effected LGW.

Actual 4 EZY diversions taken from LGW & LTN due to weather in the South East:-

EZY8986 MUC-LGW A319 G-EZAB
EZY2086 TLV-LTN A320N G-UZLB
EZY8286 SSH-LGW A321N G-UZDM

Another big delay on yesterdays TUI flight to Espargos - 27 hours late. Seems that the short haul 787 flights are suffering the big delays at the moment - this mornings Faro flight was 3 hours late leaving. Is it technical issues? Everything else seemed to get away pretty much on time.

TUI making all the headlines again!

TOM556 MAN-SAL due out Wednesday at 1425 on B763 G-OBYF went tech, passengers then departed BHX on 788 G-TUII at 1832 with a 28hour delay on Thursday, with the aircraft due back at BHX around 06:00 Friday, which will then delay our BY7548/9 Tenerife service

meanwhile TOM7418 BHX-EFL, G-FDZU diverted to ZTH, and then had an aborted take off, so is current tech in ZTH, with TOM7419 EFL-BHX, operating out of ZTH instead on G-TAWI, which then diverted to DSA! The knock on effect shows TOM7450 BHX-HER due out at 16:55 now being delayed almost 24 hours, and is due out on Friday at 16:00

Over at East Midlands, G-TAWO went tech in Dubrovnik, and their TOM7442 EMA-HER 17:20 also delayed to Friday!

Just wondering if we might see a combined Heraklion flight for East Midland & Birmingham passengers? TUI seem to be having major problems all week with tech aircraft.

Think this was due to G-TAWM being in Heraklion.....after being delayed 24 hours and then diverting to Athens en route to Heraklion. Crew would've gone out of hours,. Hence the flight only just departing back for BHX.

To continue with the discussion from another thread, Birmingham Live reports that the passengers for the cancelled TUI flight to Dalaman were put up in a hotel.

there must be a lot of airport hotels full of TUI passengers right now, and i believe even more passengers are affected by easyJet cancellations :(

FR24 is showing Jet2 B737-800 (G-DRTE) sat on the taxiway that was R24. It's been there a while and should have operated LS1253 BHX - EFL at 14:50 (now scheduled for 20:35). Does anyone know if the old runway 06 - 24 is now used for engine runs? That's the only reason I can think of for the aircraft being there.

Kevin

I've seen it a lot recently. Maybe to get pax out of the terminal and free up a gate, but yet to receive ATC clearance to depart the airfield. Normally sit there around 15 minutes then zoom off.

If a flight picks up an ATC slot delay, ATC or the flight crew will either offer or request the flight does what is called a remote hold - the aircraft will push back, start an engine, taxi to a remote part of the airfield, shut down the engine and wait out the slot there (with the APU running for AC).

Usually at busier airports this is done to free up the stand for an inbound flight - at Heathrow certain sections of the East/West taxiways are used, and at Gatwick there are some taxi in/taxi out stands used for this.

The other factor which is coming into play increasingly is if the aircraft waits out the hold on stand, the tug crew have to wait there with them until their slot, meaning they can’t go to push/tug another aircraft. Doing a remote hold free’s up that tug crew for their next flight.

Flew out of BHX a few weeks ago and noticed a TUI 737 sat on the taxiway between the Eurohub and the runway, and thought at the time they were remote holding. Just as we boarded 45ish minutes later it taxied off for departure.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
