Well to be completely honest, BHX/MAN/EDI have been plagued in Norwegian rumours for months about one thing or another and most of what they say is too ambitious and inevitably going to suffer delays etc. such as the recently 'announced' flights between Chile, Argentina and Oslo. It is similar to Qatar airways in many ways, whereby they 'announce' something, without having the aircraft, without slots, without plans, take the recent Qatar expansion list. There is no specification on frequency, start date or anything else.

Although 2 weekly flights to an airport further out of New York than EWR/JFK with a 737 is no threat to MAN's legacy airlines at all, it is probably a good thing. At MAN, we have a great operation going on, whereby TCX and VS drive the expansion and hopefully IAG will too and we don't need an uncommitted, low frequency, out-of-city airline to mess that up, whilst there is a lot of uncertainty. We already have 13 US destinations, with TPA, SAN and DTW in the fold.

I would like to see FLL on the 788 but perhaps we will have to wait until next year.

In considering what sort of deal to offer an airline such as Norwegian to start TATL operations at MAN, I would have thought there were two aspects of relevance:

Firstly, in the light of MAN's existing TATL services, the airlines and the destinations on offer, how vital is it that MAN get Norwegian in? Could they grow the business without impacting too adversely on current operations?

Bur secondly, can MAN afford not to win the business if the outcome was that the airline went to a competitor airport instead that could also potentially damage MAN's existing TATL operators?

I should add that I'm not sure how much flexibility MAN has in offering special deals for new airlines. Aren't charges clearly set out but with differentials at various times of the day? Are they allowed to offer concessions for a limited period - say with promotion expenses - or can they negotiate a pricing structure for each airline, perhaps depending on the volume of business?

I am also of the opinion that Manchester's fee are as laid out in their published tariffs - as I'm limited to my mobile at present I can't post a link, however I would expect it to be easy enough to find online.

There is a very good reason Norwegian cancelled the summer MAX slots at Manchester....

.....it's because they may not get the MAX into service until at least end of October, past the summer scheduling period.

Southwest is the launch customer for the max, and they have just stated it won't go into service until at least Oct 1st.

Of course, MAN may still have been vaulted in the queue by any one of a number of airports. Whilst NAX continue to set expectations at a level they cannot meet, the likes of TCX and VS continue their expansion.

EDIT: there is a suggestion that NAX may still get the MAX in service in May. This would put a hole in the above, but given the constantly shifting sands none of this would be a surprise.

I always thought that the "launch customer" was the airline that made a committed order first.

I thought it was academic and we were discussing who gets them first

Unless I am reading something that is not there, there were 2 posts regarding "launch airline". I don't think Boeing or Airbus consider it "academic" who the launch airline is with the amount of money they spend on marketing it.

Sorry to go "off subject" but this is a discussion forum after all.

Have the Manchester sunshine routes been dropped for the winter? Nothing showing on sale.

BHX and EDI flights to AGP, TFS etc aren't available beyond October either. I'd say it's just a matter of waiting, they tend to release their full schedules later than most.

Just been looking at Tenerife at Christmas and noticed theirs where not on sale. I'll keep checking.

Someone I know asked via social media if BHX or MAN was going to see a base now Monarch have gone.

They got the reply that BHX is cut from the Norwegian network as of 28th October, but to keep an eye out for Manchester release dates, whatever that means?

I also saw a press release somewhere that Norwegian are looking at Monarch slots across the 5 airports (but lumped in with Easyjet and Jet2 also looking), but then went into specifics that Norwegian were looking at LGW/MAN now that early morning slots are available at both. That was while I was on my phone and now Can't seem to find that article as I wanted to link it.

After rumours I've been hearing, it could be a situation to watch.

I don't think Norwegian would touch MAN. There maybe room yes however Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, TCX/TUI are probably going to be very quick to defend collectively what is 'there market'. I'm all for competition but personally i don't want to see Norwegian at MAN. Thats just me; i don't like them.

Norwegian are incentive chasers, and MAN will be like all other monarch airports that will be handing out sweetheart deals. Norwegian have been interested before, this may now seal the deal.

Norwegian have said MAN-AGP will be running in S18. I've also heard ALC will be returning, but didn't manage to catch if TFS and BCN will be coming back too.

They have also confirmed the return of MAN-AGP on social media, and that flights will be back on sale soon.

They appear to have binned everything outside London other than Manch so good news.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
