so if PK did bring the 777 to Leeds would that be allowed to land further back like the concorde so it can use all the runway or was it just a one off?

Hi Ap1995

The Wikipedia write-up about runways is quite good at explaining the runway markings and what they all mean. I believe the illustrations are American but they are fundamentally the same.

With regards to the displaced threshold, the article suggests runway obstacles in the description as the general reason for the requirement for a displaced threshold. This does apply to runway 14 at Leeds because of the Otley Chevin, but the main reason for the displaced threshold on runway 32 is because of the way the land falls away at the Horsforth end.

Definitely not, this is only available on a visual approach in adequate weather conditions. Using the ILS and at night would put the aircraft on the normal glide path.

Who mentioned the need for bendy buses? ....Bigman?

I don't know if it's just temporary but the airport has acquired at least one bendy bus for the summer. I believe they belong for First.

Re: Leeds Bradford Airport - Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

The bendy bus has been here the last 2 days and I must say it gets in the way

Is it one of the 'ftr' ones or a normal bendybus? I read a rumor they were being removed from the routes they run in either Leeds or York (or maybe both).

It's a normal one I believe.

Lbaspotter knows his buses so I expect he will be able to put us right. I heard there will be two at LBA for the summer. I think they are on loan from First for the summer, probably to see how they operate.

I have to admit, they take up a lot of room on LBA's very tight ramp.

I'm taking wild guess "Aviador" that its one of the V or T reged Volvo b10la Wright fusion's which use to work the No1 service in Leeds before they were withdrawn by First Leeds in 2010 and placed into storage.

By way "CMJ" without going to far off topic yes the FTR's based at York are been replaced by Volvo B9TL Wright Eclipse Gemini double deckers which are coming up from Sheffield in April. Rumours are going around that the displaced FTR's from York could be heading to either First Leeds or First Bradford to operate on the 72 route...

Re: Leeds Bradford Airport - Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

The bendy bus has now gone as a result of being impractical for the tight road network at LBA and has since been replaced by another first bus, reg is YK04EZH fleet no 66715. The reason for the extra bus is due to the loss of the 'old gate 10' with gate 8 being put into use to bus from now being called gate 9 and the old gate 9 now being gate 10. The space to board from is horrendous and what use the bus is going to be is yet to be desired.

Re: Leeds Bradford Airport - Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Stands 9,10,11 are to be re-aligned so no aircraft will be parking there, hence the need for more buses as most
Aircraft will be remote.

Just a quick question "lbia" Is this re-aligment of Stand 9, 10 & 11 due to the covered walkway that's going to be installed. Also will we still be able to get the 757's on them stands due to making them smaller?

surely LBA should be increasing and fully utilising stands, rather than closing them down?

So quick to criticise!

I think you need to reread the previous posts...

I shall spell it out for you, its part of the development of the airport, Short term action for long term improvement.

Re: Leeds Bradford - General Thread

Please please tell me i was seeing things when i saw on of those cheap looking tatty boxes that are bendi buses that belong to worst company (first) on the ramp within the aircrafts footprint. I'm not joking i looked twice had a litte laugh and thought why?

Not only this, but the driver came through, whats all that about? Blue pass i presume!

How do you mean came through? And they are on temporary passes, escorted by ASU.

I guess that a few Firstbus drivers have been employed to drive the said Bendi buses around the airport due to them been trained to operate them safely. So that means they will have also been cleared to operate airside.

I bet non of the airports current bus drivers have been trained to operate one. As to drive a Bendi bus it requires an extension the holders PCV driving licence plus some extra driver training. At a guess I bet its cheaper for LBA to higher Staff from Firsbus instead of First having train up the Airports own staff to operate the bus.

Re: Leeds Bradford Airport - Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Why have they got the buses in the first place? Will they spend the money that first NEVER ever did or not? Are they permenant.

Also EBCS9, the driver i saw was perfectly happy heading towards the food village without any escortation.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
