That's very good news. FRA was an extremely important hub from BRS. 2 x daily is probably the right level of frequency although I'm not yet aware of what the timings will be.

bmi regional/flymi in their regular assertions of looking for larger aircraft to operate on some routes cited BRS-FRA as the example. Had they been able to get hold of larger aircraft I suppose they might have reduced the 3 x daily E145 service to 2 x daily.

In 2008/2009 when Lufthansa operated BRS-FRA with Eurowings Bae 146-300 aircraft their 3 x daily (21 x weekly) might have been an overkill in terms of frequency; the E190 has the same number of seats (100). In that 12 months of operation Eurowings handled just under 100,000 passengers on the route.

I don't really see what Ryanair could do. Their only UK route from FRA is Stansted and anyway there isn't enough traffic for two airlines, and Ryanair would be point to point only.

Lufthansa know what sort of pax BMIR had on the route so nothing better to see if the route is viable.Its been quite some time that BMIR dropped the route and Lufthansa taken it on. I would say that it would be getting the right slot times in FRA. Sure is good news and we hope more good news for BRS is not so far away

Lufthansa seems to be the first of them.

In recent weeks Red Flyer also gave us pointers to the Laudamotion announcement and to the increased Florida flights before they were announced. Before that, Red Flyer has also given us advance information in a generalised way of other events, mainly new routes.

Press release from airport re Lufthansa BRS-FRA.

Flights arrive BRS at 0900 and 1710 and depart at 0935 and 1750. As previoulsy reported they will be 2 x daily on E190 aircraft six days a week. However, the press release also mentions a single daily on Saturdays that would mean 13 return flights per week.

Lufthansa announces double daily service from Bristol to Frankfurt, launching spring 2020

Leading international carrier, Lufthansa, has further strengthened its commitment to the UK market with a new direct flight from Bristol Airport (BRS) to Frankfurt Airport (FRA), available to book immediately (30 October 2019) at lufthansa.com.

Commencing operations from 30 March 2020, Lufthansa will fly twice daily* with return Economy fares starting from only £105 return.

The new service will operate twice daily six days per week and once daily on Saturdays, departing Bristol Airport (BRS) at 0935 and 1750 and arriving Frankfurt Airport (FRA) at 1210 and 2025 local time. Return flights depart FRA at 0820 and 1630, arriving BRS at 0900 and 1710 local time. The service will run year round from 30 March 2020 using an Embraer190 and will enable multiple onward travel connections from FRA throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific. Travellers based in South West England will now have access to 2,886 weekly frequencies, spanning 177 destinations and 71 countries.

Complementing the recently announced Brussels Airlines service from Bristol to Belgium’s capital, this new route reaffirms Lufthansa’s commitment to growing in the UK. Commenting on the developments, Andreas Koester, Lufthansa Group Senior Director of Sales in the UK, Ireland and Iceland: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the service from Bristol to one of our major hubs in Germany, for summer 2020. The route will not only connect leisure travellers to the cultural city of Frankfurt, plus facilitate ease of onward travel, it will also attract additional business travellers to Germany’s financial centre. With the UK being such a vital market for us, we recognise the importance of reinforcing our commitment in this region and are delighted to be able to do so.”

Aside from strengthening Lufthansa’s network presence at Bristol Airport, this additional capacity provides South West England with increased connectivity to long-haul destinations such as Tokyo, Cape Town and Singapore. It will also support the development of tourism and business links between both markets and create additional employment opportunities. Conversely, it will serve to enhance the UK economy by boosting inbound tourism opportunities for travellers to South West England, with ease of access to two National Parks, Stonehenge, the World Heritage city of Bath plus numerous coastal towns and villages across Cornwall, Dorset and Devon.

Lufthansa don't seem to do Frankfurt from Newcastle though. I'd have thought that of the two FRA is the better bet for onward connectivity.

This is great news for BRS, Bristol and the South West. Hopefully there will more to come. LH/EW to MUC and DUS could be the next step.

Looking at the schedules, weekdays will see a KLM E190/B737, a Brussels Airlines CRJ9 and a Lufthansa E190 all on the ground at the same time every weekday evening (plus a Aer Lingus Regional AT72 about to depart) which will be a great sight!

I'm not aware of any external advertising for the Lufthansa route that begins at the end of next month. I'm sure it was included in the regular BRS emails to its customer base at the time the route was announced but I've seen nothing around the city on, say, buses or on advertising hoardings.
