This idea would be a good improvement for public transport access to the airport for the interim , whilst a heavy rail link is the ultimate goal

New rail service began today from Chester / Wrexham to Liverpool Lime Street, via a piece of line known as the Halton Curve . This service will as time progresses be extended to further Welsh destinations. Importantly trains call at Liverpool South Parkway, which offers massively improved rail access for Liverpool Airport passengers from Chester and beyond.

This rail service was not running for period during the current Covid19 pandemic . I recently checked and trains are now running as normal therefore airport access for Chester and N Wales passengers is now conveniently available by rail again, all be it, no rushes in passengers probably just yet.

I've not been on any local trains, or any trains for that matter since lock down began. With respect to Merseyrail, they have been running I beleive at a reduced schedule throughout, I would expect the timetable will be stepping up a bit now more people are moving about. New train fleet due to begin operation this year, class 777s .

I know a lot of people grumble about Trans Pennine trains, but on the occasions we have used them over to Liverpool they have been very good. On time clean, quiet modern trains with very helpful staff. When you get off in Lime Street you feel youre right in the middle of history. Hoping to be back in the late Autumn but maybe next year..

Trans Pennine have had some new stock lately so must improve the travel experience. They did a press realise thing at Lime Street where they brought their new models on display, looked v modern all lined up together.

I`ve seen some of them passing through and you`re right they do look very modern. Although at the moment them and buses are probably the safest way to travel. I live on a main road and see loads of buses but never more that 6 on a double decker..

I used that combo ticket a few times to incl bus from South Parkway to airport, quite handy to have it all in one. I bought it on London North Western

Bus service alteration, the 500 route will now operate as a limited stop service from the city centre to the airport. It will stop close to Lime Street Station also for rail passengers.

New road for Liverpool Airport

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is developing a plan for a new road in the vicinity of Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Shane Fitzpatrick, the CA’s interim director of integrated transport, said the ‘Eastern Access Corridor’ would provide quicker access to the airport and surrounding areas and relieve the A561 Speke Boulevard. Consultant WSP is preparing the project’s outline business case, which should be completed next October. ...

I haven't seen the plans so I don't really know what the route might be, i image it will mean leaving the A561 further east maybe near the Jaguar factory. I am not sure what you mean "driving through a housing estate" the main access road is a dual carriageway from the A561

Merseyrail services to resume around lunchtime today.

Thursday, Merseyrail said forecast ice and snow overnight would likely halt all Friday Liverpool city region train services – but now it aims to get the trains running again. Tony McDonough reports

Merseyrail is looking to resume its rail services from lunchtime on Friday after originally planning to run no trains due to the bad weather.

On Thursday, the Liverpool city region rail operator said forecast ice and snow overnight and into Friday morning would likely mean there would be no services on the Northern or Wirral lines. However, with weather conditions now improved Merseyrail is aiming to run trains from midday.

In a statement, it said: “Following forecasted adverse weather conditions overnight and this morning, work has taken place to clear lines and the network is now being assessed. We are currently working towards reintroducing passenger services on a line-by-line basis this morning with the aim of running our timetabled service from approximately midday.

“Services may be subject to delay and passengers are advised to continue checking @merseyrail on Twitter and the website before they travel. Commuters are advised to check Twitter @merseyrail or the website. Rail replacement buses are nit in operation. However season tickets will be accepted on Arriva, Stagecoach and Mersey Ferries.

A combination of snow, sleet and rain can pose problems for Merseyrail’s electrified third rail. Rain and sleet can wash anti-ice away, while snow and sleet can create a new layer of ice on top of the rail, which electricity cannot pass through and therefore trains are unable to run.

On Friday morning, specialised trains were deployed on to the network to assess lines and lay anti-ice.During the test runs, the test trains did become stuck, meaning if it had committed to running a timetabled passenger service, there would have been an extremely high number of cancellations on the network throughout the morning.

The primary cause of disruption to services is a build-up of ice on the third rail, which is often worsened by the rail temperature being much lower than the air temperature. This ice can damage trains as electricity tries and fails to pass through it. Nearly one third of Merseyrail’s trains were damaged during the freezing New Year conditions due to a build-up of ice.

I like the look of these news train to replace Merseyrail aging fleet. The plan for the battery capabilitie is to allow the network to expand without the need of laying more 3rd rail electric line. These trains will serve Liverpool South Parkway for the airport.

And a detailed update on the new Stadler trains for
, including all things battery, features in our June issue, on sale next week

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
