Transport for Wales (TfW) is to reintroduce hourly rail services between Chester and Liverpool via Runcorn, Helsby and Frodsham from Monday, February 12.
Planned services will increase from 15 to 30 a day (15 in each direction) served by TfW's recently-introduced Class 197 diesel multiple units, built by manufacturer CAF at its factory in Newport South Wales, as part of an ongoing £800m transformation of the network.
Services on this route via Runcorn, Helsby and Frodsham were first launched in 2019 connecting Liverpool John Lennon Airport via the station call at Liverpool South Parkway.
Welsh Deputy Minister for Climate Change with responsibility for Transport, Lee Waters, said that the modern comfortable trains should "encourage more people to leave the car at home and let the train take the strain."

I don't have any sympathy with this Taxi, I know where he has gone, it is not a drop off area as clearly displayed. There is a free car park, just a little further on, I think he just thought he was being clever.

I would suggest that the sign on the right is easily missed if you are an infrequent visitor to the airport. As you drive into the car park I feel the sign should be on the left.

However, that said, I would have thought a taxi driver would be more clued up and aware that the free car park is next to the car rental car park.

Furthermore, the rental offices are not located in the car rental car park. The car rental office to collect keys is located on the ground floor of the multi storey car park (underneath the Hampton). So if the passenger requested to be dropped off at the car rental car park they've actually contributed to the problem by not following the pick up instructions.

Liverpool City Region Mayor, Steve Rotheram, has pledged to introduce a ‘Glider Tram’ system, if he is re-elected Metro Mayor this May.

He announced his plan as part of his campaign, saying the trackless system – similar to a version currently in operation in Belfast – would serve the city centre, Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA), and the city’s two football grounds at Anfield, and Bramley Moore-Dock.

In a Tweet, he said: “To help improve connectivity, I’ll introduce bus rapid transit similar to the Belfast Glider.

“I will introduce bus rapid transit between Liverpool City Centre and Liverpool John Lennon Airport – and to both Anfield and Bramley Moore by 2028.”

The Belfast Glider runs without the need for tram tracks and was first launched in 2018.

It runs two separate routes, totalling 15.2 miles in length and uses dedicated bus lanes and mixed traffic lanes.

The total cost of the scheme was around £100m.

The overall vision of the Belfast scheme was to develop a rapid transit system which would provide “a customer-focused, high quality integrated public transport system, which is sustainable, provides good value for money, enhances competitiveness, helps sustain economic growth, promotes regional development and contributes to social inclusion”.

Liverpool had planned to create a tram link between the city centre and LJLA more than 30 years ago, but the Merseytravel scheme, like previous others, never materialised.

Is that what we "oldies" would call a trolley bus?

Steve Rotheram the Liverpool Metro Mayor, has been getting quite a bit of flack, because of his lack lustre support to improve transportation to Liverpool Airport. Yet he is endorsing the proposed NPR route from Liverpool to Manchester via a very expensive tunnelling option to stop at Manchester Airport , which already has rail. This route will make rail travel between Liverpool and Manchester no faster than it is now.

The controversy has now hit the national press.

I'm not an expert on bus services serving the airport, but I've.learn route 86 from September will terminate at the airport, rather than where it does now in the locality. Apparently this will give a bus departure from the terminal every 7 mins. The 86 goes to the city centre, but a different route to the 500 Airport- City centre route.

The two pdfs on this website give full details

A new transit system is being proposed to link the airport with the city. It's know as a Glider or Trackless Tram, it's.on loan from Belfast and apparently will be station outside the terminal for people to look it over.

If done right this could make a real difference to passengers travelling to the airport,.it would need it's on segregated route to speed it along. I expect the route to city would encompass Liverpool South Parkway Station,.for onward rail connections. I will write more once I learn more.

The Glider / Trackless Tram is now in the press. There is an article with some more detailed in the @independent newspaper for example

Apparently it holds 30 % more passengers than a double decker plus embarking and disembarking is faster with 3 sets of doors.
#Glider #tracklesstram #airporttransport #LiverpoolJohnLennon
capacity is 105 on the 2 sets.

Istanbul has a similar longer vehicle which is around 280

Here is some quotes from the Metro Mayor

The gliders’ anticipated introduction is part of the city mayor Steve Rotheram’s pledge to deliver new rapid transport links to their aries, Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium, Everton’s new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium and the city’s John Lennon Airport by 2028 when the Euros will be hosted by the UK and Ireland.

The mayor said he hopes to build a “London-style transport system,” with the glider intending to make trips to the airport and the football faster and more efficient.

“Millions of people pass through John Lennon Airport, many of them on their way to Anfield and, in future, to Bramley Moore. But one of the things people

Happy to see any improvement for passengers to reach the airport by public transport. Id like to see more details, they call it a rapid transit, which to me has be some sort of segregated lane for the glider. If not it will just be stuck in the same traffic as a regular bus. Wait and see what develops here.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
