It would seem like an odd decision to launch Newquay just as the busiest period ends - although this IS Flybe!!

Suppose it wont matter to much to be honest with you seen as flybe will be getting Regional Air Connectivity Government funding to operate the Leeds - Newquay route for first 3 years, even if that means flybe having to fly half empty aircraft, which I sure wont be the case on this Year round operated service

That's interesting the 3 days where it is 'sat on the deck' for 4 hours. It does rather look as if these could be pencilled in for the proposed Newquay service doesn't it.

I may be mistaken but I believe it was March 1991 that Flybe took on the Leeds to Belfast City service from Capital. If so we're on the point of the (silver) twenty fifth anniversary. Quite an achievement for the airline and both airports.

Of course it was Jersey European Airways back then, then British European and now Flybe.

Belfast City airport replied to a tweet I sent them last week regards this but they are saying it was 1992 that Flybe (Jersey European) took over the route so will celebrate the routes 25th anniversary next year.

@flybe anything special planned to celebrate the fact you've been operating between @LBIAirport - @BELFASTCITY_AIR for 25 years this month.
This is the reply I got back from them
@rossbaileyleeds @flybe @LBIAirport Hi Ross: it's 24 years old this year, route began 1992. Maybe something special for the big 25 next year

Its nice to see a firm commitment from Flybe after all the stuff they have tried and failed in the past with LBA operations, especially what with there last minute swap decision to set up a base down the road at DSA instead of here where I here plans were been put in place.

It is, but I'm still waiting for them to confirm that they will fly LBA-NQY when they offer it from DSA.

I still don't think they will offer Newquay from LBA until they are sure their flights out of DSA are filling up nicely. They won't be wanting to offer it from LBA if doing so leaves their DSA flights half full. Disappointing, but from Flybe's point of view, probably understandable.

I thought the Leeds route was earmarked for subsidies? That would make the route more viable from LBA than DSA wouldn't it?

Yes it is subsidised from LBA, but I still feel they will delay starting flights. Lets face it, they are leaving things mighty late to operate anything for Summer 2016. It would be interesting to know whether the subsidy available has an expiry date. Anyone know if they have a deadline by which they have to commence operations in order to benefit from the subsidy?

I think that, if they were awarded the subsidy in good faith that they would actually operate the flight, it would make good sense that they would have the subsidy removed and given to someone else if they then did not use it. I would be very surprised if this wasn't the case as the government have played famously hard with train companies when they have not done what they needed to do.

That said, nothing surprises me.

As a little side note, I am currently looking to book some flights to the Isle of Man with Flybe from over the road. They have 5 flights a day operating between IOM and MAN. I know the Manchester mini hub is a huge thing but would it be feasible for a daily LBA - IOM? Particularly as the flights to MAN are operated by Stobart, who have now got half a foot in at LBA.

I still understand as previously posted that the planned susidised LBA-Newquay to be operated by Flybe wont start operating until at least October. Start of the winter 2016/17 schedule.
This is because on a MON, WED, FRI, SAT & SUN an Belfast based Dash 8-Q400 aircraft has been allocated/timetabled to operate the service instead of been sat on the ground at LBA for over 4 hours at a time.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
