Why is it a loss of passengers?

If the passengers are there then Eastern can always add an extra flight if necessary.

Why is it a loss of passengers

Because you have taken 5 flights out of the system, so therefore less passengers will be carried unless Easterns loads are that low the full loss can be absorbed. There is also the fact that 100% of the passengers who did use flybe will not automatically switch to Eastern.
If Easterns prices are higher than the flybe fare, then they will look into other means of getting to Leeds, or, wherever their final destination of the area may be.

Thank you for the information User001.

I am pretty sure Exeter was the route that I said would be likely to go when LS16 mentioned the loss of a domestic route was to come ?

The Exeter route has never really worked for Flybe from Leeds primarily because of the peculiar timings they operated the service. Had it been operated by the usual standard twice daily each way early morning and evening, the more lucrative business passengers might have given the route more backing. I still hold hope for more routes from Flybe but they have their own issues at the moment so I can't fault them for trying a different strategy all be it from another airport.

According to Flybe's summer timetable the Exeter part of the route will continue - EXT/LBA/EXT at 6 x weekly.

so much for flybe saying a few years a go they want to expand more from leeds, were worse off now than before knock was announced.

bet you a dollar the eastern fares go up in price now

They used to have an EXT based a/c routing EXT-LBA-EXT, they then moved to a split load operation routing EXT-LBA-ABZ-LBA-EXT and have now reverted back to plan A. The net effect is no difference in seats through LBA and one less destination.

The word from within Flybe has had this on the cards for some time now as the split load was not the most efficient way of deploying the aircraft plus the EXT-ABZ market wasn't great and LBA-ABZ had Eastern making a better fist of things with a better frequency and aircraft. The developments on MAN/ABZ are all to do with a battle for market share with bmi regional on MAN - Scotland.

In general terms, there's a decent relationship between flybe and the airport team in Leeds and in the right circumstances and in the right economic conditions, there are some opportunities to be taken - i.e Knock

Well, according to the CAA January stats, we had only 47 punters on the LBA-ABZ (got to be wrong).

What no-one has mentioned is that we actually see an increase in LBA-EXE from 5 a week to 6, which is good. Also of note is that the flight numbers have changed after all these years to BE641/2.

Oh yes they did. :good:

Hi

Just noticed that the flybe/Loganair flights to/from Glasgow which appeared on the airports live arrivals and departures website pages last year have appeared yet again.

And just to clear the situation up, Yes Loganair hold to slots for both a Glasgow and Edinburgh routes to be operated by Saab 340 but don't operate them due to bmi regional's existing services. But I understand they are waiting in the wings to pick both the Glasgow and Edinburgh routes if bmi regional dose eventually disappear after the sale of the bmi group by Lufthansa.

I just seen it, wont be long until Edinburgh goes from BMI regional too

I don't think we can be too disappointed with this announcement. Finally, we are going to see the back of an airline that is not interested in the airport and the replacement of it, on the GLA route at least, with one that is commited and forward planning. I can't help wondering whether this could be the launchpad for a little more flybe activity from LBA. LBA-BRU, for example, fits nicely into the flybe profile. Of course, that route would probably mean the basing of an aircraft. But it is not outside the realms of possibility. I'm thinking perhaps four daily rotations and that could incorporate an early and late BRU service, a midday EXE service and a late afternoon Knock service. Obviously, Knock is not a daily occurance and BRU and EXE would not command a full weekly schedule so any based a/c would have to incorporate a degree of newness. The Southampton and Belfast routes would also have to remain non based, unless flybe were to have a 2 or 3 a/c base at Leeds.

All just speculation, of course....

It's loganair rather than flybe so I wouldn't read too much into what it might mean for flybe in the near future to be honest. The management structures are pretty independant. Performance will be visible to flybe though so if it does well or badly it might influence flybe in some way I suppose. They've operated in their own right from LBA for years though, so I don't think they'll learn too much that they don't know already

Now that FlyBe albeit through Loganair are to have renewed interest in LBA with the GLA-LBA route I wonder if it might eventually lead to a GLA-LBA-FRA through service. There is no early morning service to Frankfurt from Glasgow and to get there you have to route via LHR, MAN, AMS or even SOU and it all takes time, whereas a GLA-FRA service via a stop at LBA would be quicker, plus of course providing a GLA - LBA service. Also the GLA -BRU routing is poor therefore a connection onto a LBA -BRU service might also work if Flybe took it on. There is also the possibility of connections from BHD at LBA for both FRA and BRU. In other words having a mini Flybe hub at LBA might work. After all the cities of Leeds and Glasgow have a combined population of well over a million and should generate enough traffic to support a viable Frankfurt service, -- assuming slots at FRA are possible!

Given flybe have recently pulled out of FRA, I'd doubt it.

In other words having a mini Flybe hub at LBA might work

But, this is what they have just done at MAN, so I doubt they would replicate so close by. Then there is the issue of needing an actual base before you create a 'hub'.

I was just looking at the loganair route map and they fly over to Bergen in Norway. Do you think that there would be a market available for Norway for Loganair?

Norway is very much on the minds of LBA management as a country that they want served from LBA, although I think Oslo is the priority, but you never know.

Loganair’s replacement Glasgow – Leeds route is now on sale on www.flybe.com website.

Here’s the schedule.

May 8th – June 1st & June 6th – August 31st
BE6980 = GLA 07:10 LBA 08:15 12345--
BE6981 = LBA 08:45 GLA 09:50 12345--
BE6894 = GLA 17:15 LBA 18:20 12345--
BE6895 = LBA 18:50 GLA 19:55 12345--

June 1st – June 5th (Revised Schedule due to Queens Jubilee)
BE6894 = GLA 15:00 LBA 16:05 1--45--
BE6895 = LBA 16:30 GLA 16:35 1--45—

September 2nd until October 26th
BE6980 = GLA 07:10 LBA 08:15 12345--
BE6981 = LBA 08:45 GLA 09:50 12345--
BE6894 = GLA 17:15 LBA 18:20 12345-7
BE6895 = LBA 18:50 GLA 19:55 12345-7

I think that some people are getting carried away with this news.
FlyBe (Loganair) are taking over an established link (there have been flights to Glasgow for over 40 years) so it is a low risk venture. Creating a mini hub is a completly different scenario especially in the present economic climate.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
